Answer
You can select what hardware device is used for which purpose in the Control Panel if you are running Windows.
In the Control Panel, select 'Sound'. Just set your speakers as the default device for sound output, and the headset for voice recording/input. You can talk all you want and sound will still come from the speakers.
You don't necessarily need a USB headset to do this. Even analog (headset-jack type) mics can be setup this way. Windows just needs to recognize that there is some kind of headset/mic installed on the computer.

What is the best computer/gaming headset with mic for online chats?

I will be using the headset for chatting online while I'm away at college. I have google talk right now. I just want to know what is the best I can get for my money and what would be the best consumer wise for me. I'm currently using my brothers old Playstation UBS Headset with mic that he used for gaming. Please help me.
I am wondering what the best headset is for online chatting. I am hoping to purchase two headsets, one for me and one for my friend, so we can talk online instead of wasteing our pre-pay cell mintunes every month. I am currently using my bothers old PS2 gaming headset to chat but I would like to know if this is ok and if not where can I find one and how much is it.

Im not totally aware of what type of headsets you want exactly but this site below categorizes types of headsets you might want to consider. I highly recommend trying out this site.
Otherwise, I dont think you need a "special" headset for online chatting, and I guess you dont really need noise-cancellation. I think just a basic $25 - $50 headset(s) would be fine, possibly cheaper, but I dont want to buy a cheap headset that stops working later.
Products like Logitech make various headsets.
Good luck.
