Building my own GAMING computer $1000 or lower.?

Jay G

Ok i know about 70% of computer hardware but can you guys post the stuff you think would be best for a gaming computer for like Battlefield 2, Counter Strike, Crysis, Call of Duty 4, and all those 3D multiplayer games for under $1000 dollars.

If you want to go over $1000 then go ahead im trying to see what would be best for a gaming computer, but try not to go over.. thanks!

I like Revenger's set-up but there some of the prices even I can't find.

I have build my current system for about $800, and it is a great system. If you wish to stay under budget, I would recommend going AMD instead of Intel. Intel is a good chip but the cost is usually more than the AMD equivilent. Motherboards; only have one saying that I have found true, you get what you pay for. This is where you can be dropping some money. I have found Asus and Gygabyte make a good board.
The only other thing that is important is graphics. To play the games that you want, you will need either a nVidia 8800 GT or better or the ATi 3870 or better.
Here is a good set-up:
AMD 6000+ (dual 3.0ghz) -$175
Asus M3A ATi770 mobo - $85
DDR2 Ram - $50
Case - $75 (found many on sale)
PSU 450W - $40 (if Required)
DVD RW - $40
HDD 250g - $100
ATI 3870 - $180

Total is $745. You will need an OS so add about $100-125. Also keyboard and mouse would be about $50 so that would bring the total to $920.

As for a monitor, you can get a CTR for now for under 80, but if you are looking for flat screen that would start at 150 and can get to 300 easily.

Good Luck

What is a good gaming computer under or around $1000?

I know little to nothing about processors or graphic cards. I have been doing a little bit of research and found some, but I have no clue if they are any good for what I want. I want a gaming computer that can play games such as Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3, and Skyrim on, hopefully, the highest setting or at least a good setting. I also want to be able to build the computer for future games that will be coming out.

In short.
I want to buy a good gaming computer that can handle most games well and one that I can build upon to make it better.
Thanks for the help.

If gaming is your aim, you need everything from the get go.

Powerful Intel Core processor, powerful graphics card, 8GB (two x 4GB) DDR3 RAM.

You said you know little to nothing about computers, but you don't really need to know all that much.
Since nowadays even a 13 year old kid can build a gaming desktop computer, I suggest you do the same. You spend less and get more. The best thing you get is the satisfaction of playing on something you made.
Do some research, there are extensive step by step guides and even videos out there on how to do that.
