Q. I have a Acer AL2016W LCD monitor with 8 ms response time. I am getting a new gaming computer for Christmas and I am wondering how much the monitor's response time affects the game-play performance?

not much

a faster refresh rate will be nicer on your eyes but it isn't going to make much of a diff.

Your bigger concerns are:

1) network lag
2) RAM lag
3) HD lag
4) Graphics lag (depends on your care and game settings)
5) server lag
6) brain lag

I want to get a top of the line gaming monitor that is >$250 . I'm looking for one with a fast response time and colors that will make an enemy pop in an FPS. Any suggestions?

well for under 250 you wont be getting a 120hz monitor. So basically any monitor with a good response time 8ms or under and 1920x1080 resolution.
