Why does my tf2 game keep freezing after i change servers or maps?

Almost every time after playing a match when the server changes maps or i switch to a different server my tf2 game freezes up at the server screen (name and display of server screen). because of this, i have to force quit the game, losing all of my gameplay data. please help
i have a sony vaio with 4 gigs of RAM, Intel core 2 processor, 2.40 GHz, ATI graphics card, and windows vista

this used to happen to me all the time, i realised it seemed to happen mostly when i tried to open the steam chat interface while the map was loading and steam and tf2 would simultaneously crash. Is it possible that's what's causing it? Also try closing down all the unnecessary programs in the system tray, stuff like java, quicktime, lastfm, download programs.

It occurs in the intermediate level, and no matters that I intent to reconnect. The message "Bad Screen Name" appears and appears continuosly, and keep me disconnected. Somebody knows what is happening and what I can do to solve?

I think somebody reported you to Yahoo webpage. So they don't allow you to play games anymore.
