Gaming Monitor Recommendations?

JamesisJex

I'm wanting to make a gaming rig I already got some educated advice for cards and a cpu but one thing I'm going to need its a top notch monitor. My price range 150-250$. I'd like to pay the least amount possible but i do need the quality so recommendations?
Note, I'm considering 3D but I think it's a gimmick so I don't want to pay extra for it, but it would be cool.

Answer
Im very happy with the Dell U2311H I just purchased. If you want a monitor for movies AND games you should look into 1080p monitors (unless the black borders don't bother you, then a 1900x1200 should be fine).

The dell U2311H is an 8-bit ips monitor. All TN panels are 6-bit, and use dithering to display the full 16.7 million colors that a 8-bit panel can produce without dithering.

IPS is notorious for having a better picture and color reproduction than TN panels. IPS is also notorious for being slower, but with this 8ms Dell model I don't notice much difference coming from a 5ms TN. I play FPS games too and its fine for me.

Google tftcentral for some good reviews, check out some of the new monitors. If you are going for a TN panel I recommend the Samsung PX2370 LED or the XL2370-1 LED. IPS picture is much prettier though not quite as fast.

The Dell U2711 is a really good monitor as well that I may of considered if I wanted to spend three times the price.

I am convinced that the Dell U2311 (23inch) is the best monitor money can buy for around $250 US if you buy it with a sale and/or coupon. The 24 inch U2411 is $500 and is wide gamut - which is a whole different topic

Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 1GB
Intel Extreme DP55WG
Intel Core i3-530
Sata Western Digital 500 GB

Going to make purchase tomorrow and wanted to know if there are any compatability issues in anything.
I was also looking at the nvidia 512 MB 900gt gpu-is it better than the 5570 1GB?Any other budget cards?Can I plug two of them in the motherboard?
Is 4GB of ddr3 ram enough?
Should I go for an lcd tv with pc input as a monitor?(I found a 22" for Rs11,000)

Answer
Games won't scale well on a 22" monitor with HD 5570. May be save some more and get a I5 + 5850 or 5790 based on your budget.

Else get a 5770 and use a 19" monitor (19" is considered best size for gaming).

Also try reading some reviews about that motherboard. I read some and they are not satisfactory at all. Lot of people bitching about corrupt BIOS, in-stability, stuck BIOS buttons and so on.

A 22" for 11k, is that BenQ E2200? It's a really good monitor however if you add 2K more, you can get Dell which is definitely better. If you don't want to go with a lower size monitor, then do save some money or you will be disappointed.

Why I said get a I5 with 5850 or 5770? There are chances of bottleneck with I3 running along 5770 or 5850.

I5 650 + once decent board + Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB + 4GB ddr3 G.Skill Ripjaws = 28K approx. Rest you can spend on Graphics card and based on that PSU!

5850 = 16K approx => 650W ~ 500W (based on whether you want to go crossfire or not)
5770 = 12K approx => 500W
5750 = 8 ~ 9K approx => 450W

Go for Coolermaster or corsair quality PSU's.

Also try getting hands on Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD or a Western Digital Caviar Black Edtion. Former being the best HDD offered at it's price.

Note: If you go 5850 or 5770 then you will have to chose PSU carefully. I would go with a Corsair 650W TX which will also leave room for Crossfire if you ever feel like going for.

Any decent case should work well with above, may be a Cooler Master gladiator?

If you want to stick to your configuration, than no there won't be any bottleneck as far as I can see, but games won't really scale well on 22". You will have to reduce lot of settings for games to run smoothly. If you are not into eye candy games like Crysis, CODMW, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. then go for it!
