Building A gaming computer?

Mark

Hey I'm mark and I want to make a gaming computer, I have NO idea on where to start but my step brother is going to help me out once I got all the parts I need. Now I only have a budget of $600 or so to make a good gaming computer from scratch. I need to know, What to get, Where to get it, And if it can run on windows 7 64-bit. And also could I take my current computers hard drive and move it into my new computer, it has 500gb of memory max.

Answer
My first gaming computer cost about $920, and it can still run just about everything on max settings. With hardware prices coming down so far, you could probably build an ok system for near $600, you just need to know where to get your parts. Having the hard drive already helps a lot. newegg.com has never done me wrong. Great prices and very well organized site with a trustworthy rating system. Click "shop all stores" and go into "computer hardware", then find all of the individual parts that you need.

To build a gaming computer you need the following:
Motherboard
Processor + heatsync
Power Supply
RAM
Hard Drive
Disk Drive
Graphics Card
Case

-I've built computers in the past around processors. For a Gaming computer I recommend at least a 3 core processor at 2.8ghz+. The processor and the graphics card are the two parts you should spend the most on. A processor will almost always come with a heat sync, but if you want to overclock your processor you may want to add a custom cooling unit (I do not generally recommend this). If you wish to run either mac or Linux on your computer along with windows, I recommend an Intel processor, but if you only want to run windows, I recommend AMD. The only real benefit you would have in spending more on an Intel would be compatibility with Unix based OSs, which are useless for gaming.

-Next, I find a motherboard that has the appropriate processor socket that lists support for your processor Wattage and type. There are usually too many components to a motherboard to be too specific, but just make sure it's compatible with what you need and has a good rating for its price.

- You may find a motherboard you like and choose RAM to go with it, or find RAM and choose a motherboard that is compatible with your processor. The higher the number of the ram's DDR, the faster it'll go. Standard at this point is now DDR3, but some computer run as fast as DDR5 or more. For a gaming computer I recommend no less than 6GB of RAM, but for most games RAM requirement is not very high.

- The Graphics card is the most crucial bottleneck of your gaming computer. They're very complicated and have many specs. You will probably spend more on the card than on your processor. My graphics card is 1GB 256bit DDR3 NVidia with 700MHz core clock speed and I'm able to run most new games on max graphics settings. Normally you can trust the reviews of how good a card is, but you'll generally get what you pay for. Just make sure you have the right PCI port to run the card you choose. Also make sure you get one with the outputs you need, HDMI, VGA, or DVI.

- Power supplies can be complicated, but newegg has a great feature that calculates the wattage you'll need for your computer. It's under "Computer Hardware", the last option on the far right, "Power Supply Wattage Calculator". Fill out the info, get your wattage, find a high rated power supply with that wattage. easy-peasy

- Don't spend too much on a case, just make sure your stuff will fit. parts are usually the right size, you just need the right number of ports for hard drives and disk drives. If you have an existing case you want to use, go for it.

- Get a disk drive, a burner might be nice, not a big deal.

- As far as the hard drive goes, just format the drive to wipe all the data and it shouldn't give you too many problems. You might have to find a SATA cable to hook it up to a new motherboard if you don't have one.

- Most new hardware will just run 64 bit by default, but you'll want to verify that your processor will run it. If it's 3 cores or more, it probably will.

Good luck!

Should I get a gaming computer or an Xbox 360?

Mercuri

Should I get a nice tv and an Xbox or a gaming computer? Which one would be funner?

Answer
Gaming computer is more expensive but then it's not only for gaming, it's versatile, it will be much faster than any regular PC and it comes handy when you need to encode some video to transfer from camera to DVD and staff like that. Viruses? just angry tales for kids, if you have your head on you shoulders and not somewhere else you will never get any with free antiviruses. Hardware in modern computers is much more advanced than on xbox or any other console, plus you have wide choice of controllers, and in any 3D FPS shooter game computer gamers own console dudes. Just because keyboard is so good for most games. And mouse. And big resolution monitors that have better contrast than any TV. And many more things. Computers (gaming) look better - check these here:

How these computer game jobs are connected?

Riela

-Computer Games Designer/Programmer
-Game Developer
-Sound Engineer
-Computer Game Tester

how are they connected?

Answer
Computer Games Designer/Programmer
General Computer Degree for designing or programming software

Game Developer
A Specialist in designing games

Sound Engineer
A general degree in sound for movies, games, or whatever

Games tester
The person who finds errors in the code that the game programmer writes and makes sure the game is good for the consumer.

There are all tech jobs.

All could work in the games industry on the same team... but probably only the sound engineer(only sometimes in computer software) and computer designer programmer could be on the same team for computer software.

What are good parts for gaming computer?

I want to build a gaming computer but i dont know what to get for all the parts like the internal parts. a list of the parts and a website where i can find the parts would be great.

Answer
The gaming computer you need depends on what games you will be playing. The capacity of a computer to play games is determined by its RAM Drive and the Graphics Card which can both be very expensive if you are going to be playing HD or 3D games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Arma 2, Civilization 5, Grand Theft Auto V, Diablo III, and many other popular games are able to play on simple systems that today would cost 800$ and up. Many games such as the ones listed above will not run on a Mac so stick to brands such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Acer, and even Alienware if you want to go on the more pricey side. Desktop Computers that i reccomend for common gaming are the Dell XPS 8500, Alienware M11x, and the Hewlett-Packard H8-1250 which i own and play mainly Minecraft and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on. If you need information on certain graphics cards and what games they can run, there are websites that will show you exactly what games can be run on a specific graphics card.

What's a nice gaming computer?

giselle

I'm wondering what's a nice gaming computer?

Answer
The best gaming computer has and always will be the one you build yourself. Even if you have no knowledge in computers it can be a good learning experience and you can get a machine far superior for cheaper than outright buying a "gaming pc".

Then you have to ask yourself the question, what kind of gaming is it that you want to do. The most crucial component in your gaming machine will be the video card and how beefed up the card will have to be will depend on the quality of your graphics and the intensity of your games. Take Tomb Raider for example you have various settings from low all the way to Ultra where the strands of hair on the main character are all independent for realistic effect.

Research on the components needed for your desired spec gaming machine can easily be found through google and various forums. Parts can be purchased through sites such as newegg.

Breaking this down further, regardless of the quality or intensity of the gaming you generally will never need anything more powerful than an i5 processor, with exception to the 6 core i7 i5 and 7 differ mostly in hyperthreading ability and caching ability. AMD can be good but performance will always be better with intel, don't let the clock rate full you.

Are there cheap gaming computers out there?

Tristan

Hi, thanks for taking the time to look at this question.

I'm looking for a cheap gaming computer that I don't have to assemble myself. I've PC gamed in the past but nothing extensive, and for the past couple years or so I've been exiled to console gaming. My budget would not exceed 200 dollars.. unfortunately money is tight.

Any information would be most appreciated.

Thanks again.

Answer
any gaming computer that you assemble isnt going to be cheap.
MOST gaming computers that you assemble yourself aren't cheap and anything that's cheap means it won't play games, self assembled or not.

for $200 you can't even buy a PS4.
if you seriously have such a small budget your best thing to do is stick with console gaming. console gaming is much cheaper than PC gaming however you don't get the highest level graphics possible. PC gaming is expensive but you get the latest technology as soon as it's released. for a gaming computer that can handle new games, expect to pay close to $1000.

Im planning on selling my xbox and mac to get a gaming computer. Ill probably have about 1000 dollars to spend on it. I want to record call of duty and minecraft with fraps (or something else you would recommend) and start up a youtube thing, nothing big, just for fun. I want to switch from console to pc gaming. Any help with this would be unimagionably appreciated :) thanks guys!

Answer
Alien Ware would be the best, they are pretty good prices for what you are getting, $1000 is plenty for getting a good gaming computer. I have an HP Pavillion that was $850. It has a 3.4ghz AMD quad core processor. 2 TB hard drive. 8GB RAM. That was with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. The monitor is 23''.
It is great for me. I can play minecraft with no problem. Most games will be able to run on it. And I have enough room to keep all my youtube videos as a backup.

What is the best website where I can customize my own gaming computer?

What is the best website out there that allows me to customize my own gaming computer. When I say "Best" website, I mean good quality company, reliable, good prices (not too worried about price, but better prices are good), and good customer service and stuff like that.
I will not buy separate parts and build the computer myself because I don't know how to do it and it will cost the same as buying a computer after hiring someone to do it for me anyway.

Answer
it wouldn't be the brightest option to buy a computer, but don't ignore me just yet. A good reliable place to buy a gaming computer is ibuypower.com, because they have great customer support. Also, it is hundreds less expensive than alienware. Now this is what I think you should do. Go to ibuypower.com, they have a custom build configurator that lets you choose which parts you want, print the sheet out, and buy those parts. This will work 100% of the time, because the parts you picked on the website are all compatible, and you can trust ibuypower.com, so you KNOW its compatible. Building a computer is not as hard as you think. Heck, my 12 year old cousin did it, and he's not the brightest person in school. I highly recommend doing some research on building computers on the internet before you jump the gun and decide to build/buy a gaming computer. Know what you're going into, and that your sure of your decision of buying vs. building. Building a computer would cost hundreds and hundreds less than actually buying a custom built gaming computer, and you already know that the parts are compatible because you used the custom build configurator. It's actually quite simple. Also, you can get parts for real real real cheap at newegg.com. Their prices will blow your mind, and they have a huge selection. Thanks for listening, and good luck with your computer!

What would it cost to build a gaming computer?

Ivory

All I want in a gaming computer is super fast internet, amazing graphics, doesn't lag on games, and I can carry lots of memory. Please guys someone answer. I will give best answer to the best answer.

Answer
Well a gaming computer depends on your budget , as long as you pay more as you get better performance . Unfortunately you didn't mention your budget so i cant give you a specific build . The lowest gaming PC that can play games on Max / High settings on resolution of 1920 x 1080 is for at least 800$ . The gaming PCs are mostly depend on strong graphics card not the processor so you make sure to buy a High end card (( not less than 250$ )) and for the CPU any core i3 or AMD FX-4300 will do the purpose . About the fast internet you just need to have ADSL contract with a good company and choose the speed you want to have .

I will give you a random rig for 800$ :

CPU : FX-4300 (( 120$ )) / FX-6300 (( 130 $ ))
Motherboard : ASRock 970 extreme 3 (( 120 $ )) / 970 pro 3 (( 75$ ))
Ram : 8GB (( 2 x 4GB )) 1600 Mhz (( 70$ )) i recommend G-skill or Corsair
Vga card :Evga GTX 770 (( 410 $ )) / / Sapphire Vapor X 7950 (( 380$ )) / Evga GTX 760 (( 260$ ))
Power supply : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
For the high storage you need like 1 or 2 TB depends on your need and 1TB HDD is for 75$ so if you add more then double the price .
Any thing else like DVD player or Led light will be cheap and u can handle that yourself they won't exceed 30 $ .

I strongly recommend that you stick with Sapphire Vapor X 7950 due to its special cooling which will keep your card cool , silent and highly overclock-able . Many will say that you go for AMD FX-6300 as it has 6 cores and in the same price . In fact FX-4300 cores are stronger and most games use 4 cores not 6 so FX-4300 will be better , check this site for further knowledge http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/293/AMD_FX-Series_FX-4300_vs_AMD_FX-Series_FX-6100.html

Also if you don't like AMD for a processor then your only chance is to go for Core i3 which will give nearly the same performance of FX-4300 and with the same price , Unless you have a higher budget that afford a Core i5 (( 180$ and above )) , but in this case i would recommend to invest more in graphics card so you get something like GTX 780 (( 660 $ )) or HD 7970 (( 500 $ )) . If you need any help send me an email . Hope i helped

i need a gaming computer for 300 dollars or less im a small youtuber and want to upload videos fast and play call of duty games and arma 2 on high graphics thanks!

Answer
I would say your best bet is to buy a used computer... Look for something that has at least dual core (quads perform very good), DDR2 ram (2Gb+), a good videocard of at least 512Mb and have windows xp SP2 (SP3 will slow it down) installed on it, and a hard drive of at least 120Gb...
To maximize the paging (before you start installing games) download Defraggler from piriform.com (ccleaner is also a usefull tool to keep ur system running fast) once installed, go to start menu and right click or My Computer, click properties, go to Advanced tab, click the first settings button (in Performance box), go to Advanced tab in new window and click the Change button, in the new window (virtual memory) click the No paging file option and click the Set button, a window opens to warn u of system instabilities click Yes and then click the OK buttons on all the window until u get prompted to restart and do so... Now that the page file has been reset, you'll need to open Defraggler and run a Quick defrag, once done you will have to go through the steps again to make a new page file, this time when you get to the Virtual Memory window, select custom and type 4095 in both feilds and click Set and OK on all the windows again... Now you have the maximum size page file which will allow your computer to multitask at it's best (if you intend on having more than 1 HDD in ur comp u can allocate a page file of 4095 on each HDD, this will allow each hdd to page independantly without having to transfer info to one another, thus maximizing efficiency)...
Now you would be ready to install your games and stuff and your good to go.

PS, don't expect to find a "Really good gaming computer" for under 300$, at least not a new one...

Good luck and I hope this helpped a bit :)

Whats the difference between a computer and a gaming computer?

Q. I hear these terms like gaming computer but whats the difference? Is it just the parts like the gaming computer has more advanced hardware? Because in that sense a gaming computer is really just a more powerful computer then a standard computer is it not?

Answer
Computer - An electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.

Gaming Computer - is a personal computer that is capable of playing computationally demanding video games. Gaming computers are very similar to conventional PCs, with the main difference being the addition of performance-oriented components such as a high-end CPU and one or more video cards

Hope this helped :)
