Can I make a gaming computer for under 500 dollars?

Justin

I would like to build a good computer that can run games smooth for under 500 dollars. I have someone helping me build it so I just need to buy the parts. I was wondering what parts I can buy and how many fps games will run with the parts.

Answer
The fool above me forgot ram, power supply, and operating software, arguably the most important things.

Oh, and bull shit to his 15 years computer building experience. You don't forget about those things, just don't listen to him.

/sigh

For 500 you really can't build anything that would run games. I'm sorry, but you really can't. If you plan on playing games you will need about a 700-900 dollar budget and with that you can get an entry level PC. If you can't afford that I would really suggest just buying a video game console such as the PS3 or Xbox 360.

With 1000 dollars I can build this;

Intel i3-2130 - 140
Intel H67 mobo - 110
8gb 1333mhz ram - 50
Radeon 6870 - 170
Corsair CX500 psu - 60
WD blue 500gb 7200rpm hard drive - 100
Generic DVD drive - 40
Zalman z9 plus case - 70
Windows 7 64bit OEM - 100

So this will be a well working machine capable of maxing alot of games, with an affordable price tag. Total comes to 840, assuming you have peripherals

is this a good gaming computer build for under 500 dollars?

already have the case just with 550 watt power supply just wondering if this is a decent build for my first gaming pc playing games like wow minecraft sims and maybe mw3
i would have gotten a better graphics card but i got this one for dirt cheap from a friend and ill upgrade in time just on a tight budget to start easier for me to upgrade piece by piece as i save money

Answer
Go with my build, it's better because I choose a bigger better Graphics card witch is the most importent part in a gameing build. I had to get a lower end CPU but it is well worth it with the GPU upgrade. Aslo your loosing 500 GB as i went down to 1 TB in order to bring the price rite!

Price: $552.27

Understood, Then just drop off the Graphics card I picked out & go with the one you got off your friend. At that point it will be even cheaper.

Third Link: You should go with this Motherboard, it's the 990FX witch is the top in the AMD world to date. Other than that, your 550 watt PSU will do just fine, but you will need to upgrade that sooner or later. The reason you should go with my Motherboard choice is because I have owned the 970 & the 990FX blows it out of the water, It's more stable & pretty mush the best board on the market to date. You will be much more happy with it than the 970. O & you should stick with Lite on DvD Drives never ever had an issue with them, Adding on my MB will cost $546.87 witch includes shipping.

John

I want to build my own computer, I want it to be real fast obviously. Price is not a big factor, I have 1,500 dollars. This computer will probably also be used as a gaming computer, so a video graphics card is a must. I have a general idea of what I need, but if someone could tell me specifics to make sure everything is compatible with the motherboard, CPU, and all that good jazz. If you could tell me all the things that go into the desktop. Thanks it'll be much appreciated =].

Is building a fairly decent 500 dollar gaming computer possible?

WHOA!

I want to get a new computer and I was wondering if I could build one with 500 dollar range. Would it be enough to run Crysis 1 or 2 at med to high settings? I'm just using Crysis as an example, since it's a game that demands a high powered computer.

Answer
Here you go.

That would manage Crysis on High/Very high mixed settings at a 1680x1050 resolution. Same with Crysis 2.

If you can push a bit more to around $600, you'll have no problem maxing out Crysis 2 at 1080p. Crysis on very high with no AA.
