A good gaming computer?

Bobby Thom

Would one of these two make a good gaming computer? I'm only looking to play games like WoW and LOTRO.

Buying a Gaming Computer?

Jay Garric

Hey. I'm planning to buy a computer on eBay in a few weeks, as my computer is very old and laggs terribly.

I was wondering what computer could I get where I experience not lagginess or slowless but is able to play high detailed games such as World of Warcraft and any other game as my current computer is not suitable for certain games.

Please post your comments. Thanks alot.

Answer
Basically, the most important thing is a good CPU and Graphics card. Your best bet is getting an intel core 2 duo, 2 gb ram. For graphics card, it depends what you want. You can get budget that still performs good such as the 9600gt or high performer but still good price such as the gtx 260. The intel core 2 duo E8400 is good. Get an intel motherboard as they are very stable unless you are a intense gaming nerd and want to get 2! graphics card in one machine running together in SLI. What i would do is get all the components off ebay seperately and build it if you have time and effort, with the help of google.com for research. If not, then try and find the specs that i have recommended or the similar specs from the other answers. If you cant be arsed, and you're not that tech savvy, just get a Dell as you can choose what componenets you want, get warranty, piece of mind that components havn't been somehow messed with, but at an extra cost as it costs more to build with Dell than building your own.

I'm currently browsing online sites looking for the best deal on a high-end gaming computer. I have a rough $600-700 budget trying to stick to $700... I have the thought in mind to build my own computer from scratch or buy a desktop such as the Alienware X51. Any information and comparisons are greatly appreciated on parts and computers.

Answer
Just build one yourself.
It's fun, easy, and saves you lots of money.
Here is some good specs for about $700

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k - $220 (Newegg)
MOBO: ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 - $150 (Newegg)
GPU: XFX Double D HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 - $160 w/ MIR (Newegg)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB - $30 (Newegg)
PSU: CORSAIR Professional Series HX650 - $110 w/ MIR (Newegg)
CASE: COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 - $65 w/ MIR (Newegg)
SOUND: OPTIONAL
INTERNET: OPTIONAL (NOT EXPENSIVE)

TOTAL: $735

Obviously you can play around with those specs.
Also, check out other sites like NCIX.US, Amazon, Ebay, and even Craigslist for cheaper parts. I built my computer that would have costed me over $1500 for about half of that price because I found great deals at these sites!

Also, for more information I'd suggest checking out Tom's Hardware forum.
There a lot of people like you with similar questions, and they're are more people that have more knowledge in building/OCing computers!

Can you get a good gaming computer on eBay?

jj

So right now I have a MacBook Pro but it sucks for gaming so I was looking for a new gaming computer but all the ones I see are like 1000 plus so I looked at eBay I rarely do (never bought off eBay) so I have 400$ right now but I'm willing to go up to like 600$ (I'm 13) so I was looking at prices and they look good but I'm not really sure if you could make a segestion for a computer that'd be great I'm just looking for something good (I've see a lot saying my price range isn't good already)

Answer
Here is the most bang for your buck. Some folks shy away from refurbished but it has been my experience they are better due to a technician here in the USA has worked on it and checked it out. I have an MSI GT700 I bought refurbed in 2009 for $550 when they were selling new for over $1000 with out a hard drive or OS.

I am trying to purchase an used desktop computer on Ebay and the owner is refering as a Gaming Computer. Is there any reaso why I shouldn't have it as a regular desktop computer or would it be even better?

Answer
It just means the graphics card/processor are powerful and geared towards gaming, but that doesnt mean it isnt suitable for simple tasks you would do on a regular computer, infact it will probably last longer, so yeh it will be fine for you go for it.

PS If you copy/paste the specs for the pc in the additional info bit, along with how much your paying, then ill tell you if its worth it etc...

What is the best gaming computer I can buy?

Well I want a gaming computer. The things im looking for in a gaming computer is at least 850 dollars can run alot of games on high quality. I have a computer that I play games but it sucks. I really want a gaming computer

Answer
Don't listen to those other guys. You can build a very good gaming computer even under $850.
Anyways, here are my personal specs...You can change whatever you want to fit your price or desires. I don't have the HAF 932, I have the RV03, but you can change the case to fit your price.
Mine costed me about $980. Check out NCIX.US for good deals, Newegg is also very good and a lot of sales, as well as Amazon. I also got some of my parts off of Ebay and Craigslist.

Specs:

GTX 580 - $350-$400
Asus P8P67 MOBO - $120
Patriot Sector 5 4GB DDR3 2200MHz - $50
MEMOREX DVD - $25
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ - $20-$30
Raidmax AE 850W 80+ Gold PSU - $110
CM HAF 932 Advanced - $120 w/ MiR NEWEGG
intel core i5 2500K - $198 (amazon)

Instead of the 580, you can always go with a GTX 570 or GTX 560. A lot of people SLi the GTX 560.
IF you don't like/want Nvidia, get a 6870 or 6970. They both are REALLY GOOD cards and they're cheap too. You could also go with AMD CPUs like the Phenom x4 or x6.

Know this:
AMD + ATI = Save money, close performance (sometimes better)
NVIDIA + INTEL = More money, great performance,
Or you can mix them both...

What information do you need to provide and when, when you sell an item on ebay?

I am going to put up a listing for a gaming computer I'm going to be selling soon on ebay, and haven't used ebay before.

When I make the listing, I'm probably going to be doing an auction and allow people to make offers, do I just provide payment information in the listing, so that the buyer can pay once the item sells, and then just contact the buyer and ship it to them? Or something else?

As an additional note, will people not trust me since this is the first item I'm selling? And what can I do about that?

Answer
You need far more info than anyone can give you here. Read a book before you get ripped off.

You are prohibited from putting any personal contact info in an auction listing or accepting any form of payment other than Paypal (and a couple of other electronic payment types).

How exactly do you plan to ship a fragile computer? What are you going to do if the buyer claims they never got it? Or if it was broken in shipment? Or doesn't have the specs you advertised?

You know Paypal holds your money for 3 weeks? And that PayPal and eBay together take at least 15% in fees?

What is the best way to build, and then sell a computer?

I need some advice on building a computer I plan to sell. Any suggestions? Should I build a gaming computer? Or just a nice desktop for home or office use? Which would sell better on ebay? Should I buy all the parts at once, or wait for sales on each piece? Is newegg the best site for buying computer parts? Some expert advice would be nice.
@ General Knowledge. I never said anything about putting pirate software on my computer in order to sell it. Why the heck would I do that??

Answer
i have sold many rigs over 10 years. my own experience is that most people want low-end stuff. people who want whizz gaming rigs tend to be builders themselves. however, your biggest problem is being able to build at a price that others are prepared to pay; the big boys can buy components at prices you can't normally touch.
find the potential buyers first, or you will be left with stuff you can't sell.
good luck
