How can I build a decent gaming computer with 300 dollars?

Li P

Anyone have any ideas? My ideal specs are
2GHz CPU motherboard
256 or maybe even 512MB VRAM that's good for gaming that's not high end quality.
Maybe 100GB of HDD but 80 will work.
CD/DVD R/RW must have that.

Anyone have any ideas of builds?
Oh and note how I said I'm not going to play the NEWEST games available. I'm not going to touch Age of Conan or even World of Warcraft anytime soon. I just want one that's way better compared to my current build, which has a sad 32MB integrated video card.

Answer
$300 isn't enough for a gaming computer. You'll end up with something low end if you put so little money into parts, or you'll have to skimp in areas where money was allocated to more important components.

I put together a comp on newegg for $322, excluding shipping/tax, but by no means is it a gaming computer. It's fine for vista general use, etc, but I doubt it will get you the newest games at good resolutions.

Doesn't include OS or monitor, because it would be next to impossible to fit both of those on top of a computer for 300 D:

Btw, this is just a quick build. I'd need more time to look over it to check all the compatibilities, etc.

Can a quality gaming computer be built for around $300?

Q. The other day I was complaining to a friend that my computer didn't play games very well. That my games looked horrible on it.
One thing lead to another and eventually she told me her boyfriend was a tech whiz and could build me one by ordering parts off sites. I like the idea a lot, but I was wondering if a decent gaming computer could really be made with parts equaling around $300.
Apparently it would make my game play perfectly and make my graphics look amazing and have a ton of memory space. I'm really excited if it's possible (and he assures me it is), but is it too good to be true? Because I'm supposed to pay him tomorrow to start building it, and I'm just having some doubts about it. I know little to nothing about computers so I'm not sure.
This is disheartening to say the least, though I am glad I asked first before spending $320.

Basically I don't really know anything about my computer. I just put games in and hope they play.
I would basically want to play; World of Warcraft, Spore, Sims 2, Sims 3, Lord of the Rings, and (maybe) Starcraft 2.

Most other games I just get for my consoles, PS3, 360.

Answer
Short answer: NO not even with super discounts etc.

Long answer: Close to 300.00 sure. I imagine that a decent gaming computer if he charges you just for parts and no "profit" it might run like 500.00 - 800.00. and that would be for a low end rig. It wouldn't be a core i7 980x with 32Gb of DDR3 and 10 Terabytes of Hard drive space and 4 GTX480s etc. but it would play most modern games at medium graphics or better.

If you want, e-mail me and I can give you a parts list or example to work from.

i need a alright mid range gaming computer for £100 - £300 pounds any idea
but i dont know how to build it myself

Answer
You couldn't get a good gaming computer for that price. A decant gaming computer would cost about £460. You might need to save up a little bit to buy a good gaming computer. I hope this helps!!!!

Why are gaming consoles (such as PS3 or Xbox 360) so much cheaper than a gaming computer?

Jack

Gaming computers and consoles have a common goal: to play games efficiently. Consoles are only like $300 maximum while gaming computers can be found for $2,500 and, in rare cases, even more. Can someone explain to me why this is?
Consoles like the ps3 also can open browsers and use the internet, like a computer. is there a huge difference between the two?

Answer
Because gaming laptops do more than just play games. It's also a computer.

Answer
i seriously don't think so that you would be able to get any decent gaming laptop within this price range but if you are getting something good for that low then surely go for laptop. All decent gaming laptops are within the range of 800 to 1000$

i need a gaming computer for 300 dollars or less im a small youtuber and want to upload videos fast and play call of duty games and arma 2 on high graphics thanks!

Answer
I would say your best bet is to buy a used computer... Look for something that has at least dual core (quads perform very good), DDR2 ram (2Gb+), a good videocard of at least 512Mb and have windows xp SP2 (SP3 will slow it down) installed on it, and a hard drive of at least 120Gb...
To maximize the paging (before you start installing games) download Defraggler from piriform.com (ccleaner is also a usefull tool to keep ur system running fast) once installed, go to start menu and right click or My Computer, click properties, go to Advanced tab, click the first settings button (in Performance box), go to Advanced tab in new window and click the Change button, in the new window (virtual memory) click the No paging file option and click the Set button, a window opens to warn u of system instabilities click Yes and then click the OK buttons on all the window until u get prompted to restart and do so... Now that the page file has been reset, you'll need to open Defraggler and run a Quick defrag, once done you will have to go through the steps again to make a new page file, this time when you get to the Virtual Memory window, select custom and type 4095 in both feilds and click Set and OK on all the windows again... Now you have the maximum size page file which will allow your computer to multitask at it's best (if you intend on having more than 1 HDD in ur comp u can allocate a page file of 4095 on each HDD, this will allow each hdd to page independantly without having to transfer info to one another, thus maximizing efficiency)...
Now you would be ready to install your games and stuff and your good to go.

PS, don't expect to find a "Really good gaming computer" for under 300$, at least not a new one...

Good luck and I hope this helpped a bit :)

I am looking for a good gaming computer but don't really have a thousand dollars to spend on it. I think that my max price would be from 300-500. Does anyone know any good ones? And I would like for it to be strong enough to play arma 2 and project reality. Thanks.

Answer
To be honest with your price range your options are limited. There is a budget build here: http://www.omfgnetwork.com/2012/omfg-network-amd-copper-build-2/ But it does not include the monitor, mouse, ect. But that all depends on if you want to build your own computer. Also Alien Ware tends to be more expensive than building it yourself, but you will not have to assemble it yourself.
