cheap gaming computers?

anon94

hi guys, i like playing football manger, the sims, civilization v, LOTR games. and i was just wondering if there is any gaming desktops that are cheap enough to play them on or if it is cheaper building a desktop or not. my budget is between 300- 700 pounds thanks :)

Answer
I forgot the conversion ratio, but if a pound is like 1.22 dollars, then you can get pretty much an extremely high end gamer for 700 pounds, the trick is to build them yourself. I can build a 600 dollar desktop that will compete with an 1,300 dollar Alien Ware, or AMD Dragon.

Sites like
CyberPowerPC.com
or
iBuyPower.com
are both sites that allow you to put the system together and they build it, still cheaper than buying a brand name computer, but more than building it yourself.

EDIT: The pound is 1.55 dollars, so yes, for about 450-500 pounds you can get a superb gamer, and if you spend that much in parts yourself and build it yourself, you will gain about 15% more performance.

I'm looking for a laptop or a computer to buy?

Q. I'm looking for a laptop or a computer to buy, but it don't know which one is best to play games like Unreal Tournament,Age of Empires 3 and games like them.My price range is 200-500 pounds. So if you can help me then that would be great.

Answer
For 200-500 pounds you will not even get a gaming desktop, let alone a laptop. Good graphics cards nowadays cost 100 + pounds. If you really really want a laptop forget playing games on it. A gaming laptop will probably cost you 800 + pounds. The cheapest option is to buy the components and build you own desktop computer, you can get a very fast machine for as much as you would spend on a crappy laptop.

p.s. All the smart people do it ...

How much should I update my computer specs to play games like Skyrim without lag, etc?

Okay, so I have an ancient computer (flat screen but ancient) that has Windows XP pre-installed and still uses a LAN cable. I have a pretty decent graphics card that can run games such as Oblivion, Skyrim, Dragon Age: Origins, The Witcher 2, and LEGO Harry Potter. However, it plays the brand new Hobbit video game with terrible graphics and runs Skyrim with horrible lag, terrible FPS, and excruciatingly long loading screens. Thus, I want to update my computer with things like more RAM, Memory, Hard-Drive space (1 or 2 TB if possible) and Wi-Fi. However, I dunno how to do this and what things I should buy since I don't know my internal computer specs before installing the graphics card and don't have the computer with me yet. It'll come here in about a month or so. At the moment, I have a budget of about 400 to 500 pounds but will save up more for it so I want to know the best buy for my money. Any advice, tips, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!!
P.S. I also want the PC to be able to run games like Diablo III, Assassin's Creed games, and more modern ones.

Answer
Game performance is mostly dependent on CPU, RAM, and your graphics card.

Here are the system requirements for Skyrim:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:System_Requirements
Various video cards and how well they run the game are listed there.

Most games can only utilise two cores, so having a faster CPU with fewer cores is more preferable than having many cores, but a slower clock speed. So a quad-core at 3.0Ghz or faster should run Skyrim with no problems.

Get at least 4Gb of RAM. And if u have a 64bit version of Windows, even more RAM is better.

What computer gaming monitor should i buy?

steve k

Hello, i want to know whats a good gaming monitor that i could buy for no more than 300 pounds. The computer i have is an alienware aurora.
My alienware costed about 1k 500 pounds

Answer
You want something with a high contrast ratio like (>40000:1)
(dont worry too much about the contrast ratio, but dont go below 20k:1)
very low response time (2ms)

Then I'd get the largest size monitor that has those things, is within your price range and is a brand name you have heard of.
