To make a long story short, I already have a good Dell laptop for school and such, but I'm looking for a fast gaming computer for games such as The Sims, etc. What price range would I be looking at for a computer and a monitor? (Please note that I don't speak 'computer' and I am very easily confused with technology talk)!

I am looking to get a gaming computer. I am currently on a computer that doesn't support the games I play very well. I'm looking to upgrade to a pretty decent gaming computer but I don't want to spend a lot of money on it. The games that I play are mainly Team Fortress 2, Minecraft (which I run a bunch of mods on) and games like that. I also run video editing software. I need to know what type of gaming computers will run these games very well without any lag. I want a good computer but don't want to spend upwards amounts of money. In a medium price range ($400 - $700), you can easily get a HP or Gateway/Acer desktop with a quad core processor (both AMD and Intel i5 or stronger), 4GB to 8GB of RAM, 250 to 1TB hard drive and a medium graphics card of 1GB memory.
Laptops are always more expensive than desktops so a laptop with aforementioned specs should cost about $600 - $750.
You should check BestBuy's or NewEgg's sites, they have a lot of different models. Or you can choose to buy a refurbished desktop (BestBuy available) which is about $100 cheaper than a new one.

CPU: either Intel Core i5-2500K or better yet Intel Core i7-2600K (emphasis on the "K").
Get a good CPU cooler, as the stock Intel cooler is crap. Get a either a Cooler Master or a Sunbeam Twister 120 CPU cooler.
Motherboard: Get any motherboard with the newer Z68 Chipset, LGA 1155 socket, with SATA III (3) - 6.0Gb/s. It is the best setup for Sandy Bridge processors. I got this Gigabyte for $125:

A 750 Watts or bigger double rail top quality power supply (Cooler Master, Antec, OCZ, Corsair)
A good graphics card, nVidia GeForce 560 Ti or at least GTX 460 Fermi or even Radeon HD 6870 or 6970.
Dylano suggested the nVidia GTX 580, it is better but also much more expensive at $480 vs. the $240 for the 560 Ti or $160 for the GTX 460 Fermi. You would get about the same results if you use a 560 Ti and spend more on the i7-2600K CPU.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS
Good PC Case with plenty of space and air flow, at least 2 or 3 120 mm Fans (with blue LED for cool looks).

I am very new to gaming computers and I know I should build my own, but I want to first buy one premade since I have no idea how to make one. Give me some links to some if you guys can please. Well, I could get you a very good gaming system, but you would have to build it yourself, BUT it is easy. Watch a YouTube vid and you are set, you just need a few tools and you can build it. It will safe you 100-200$ and you get the satisfaction of building it yourself. I based this off my 800$ high end gaming system and downgraded it some. Also, when building it yourself, not a whole lot can go wrong IF you watched a video. The CPU only fits in one way, same with the ram, sane with the video card. The parts are all built so that it is easy to build it yourself. This system is right at the border to a high-end system and even I would be very happy with it. It can take on any game at high to ultra settings with no lag.This video card can run Crysis 3 at High settings and BF3 at Ultra settings. In other words, its the most bang for your buck you can get. Also, It allows a lot of upgrading. For example if it gets slower you can stick a new GPU in it and upgrade to the 8-core AMD CPUs it supports. NOTE: Intel CPUs are more expensive, but don't heat up as quickly, but for 200$ extra, they aren't worth it. AMD CPU's are better for budget systems, and have a much higher price for performance rating.

The most important component of a gaming computer is the graphics card- that's where to splurge. You get more bang for your buck by spending an extra $50 on your GPU, instead of your CPU.

For future-proofing the best route is Core i7, but that's not really the budget route since the CPUs and RAM are more expensive.

For most games right now, a high-clockspeed dual-core CPU performs better than a lower-clockspeed quad-core. They're also better on your budget because they cost less. And those savings translate into a better graphics card or more RAM.

Where the quad-cores really shine are in movie editing, 3D modeling and rendering apps and really heavy multitasking- not so much for games. Their performance boost is minimal compared to what you'd gain from other upgrades.

A Core 2 Duo E8400 combined with a GTX 260/Radeon 4870 is very doable within your budget. Also consider going with an AM3 socket system instead of Intel socket 775.

Here are the $650 and $1250 gaming builds from Tom's Hardware- since you're smack in the middle, I'd suggest using either as a baseline and then upgrading/downgrading. Right now a pair of Radeon 4770 cards in Crossfire are undisputed performance kings of the $220 price point.

I want to get a gaming computer that can handle lots of games, have plenty of memory space and is super fast when just internet browsing or playing a fast paced fps. I know alienware makes some pretty sick computers but i wouldn't know which one to get, im not really a tech guy. I play games like star wars the old republic and combat arms and they got some serious lag on them and i hate it. What are some good gaming computer models that can handle these games?

Let me help you pick a computer! Alienware does have nice computers, no doubt. Although, their computers are famous for being overpriced for what you get. Let me give you some pointers when you are looking for your computer! I will also suggest a few computers for you to look in to.

First rule: Windows 7 is a must. Macs and older versions of windows are simply obsolete for gaming. I will give a Mac OS credit in certain aspects over Windows OS, although gaming is simply not Macs strong point.

Second: Processor / Video Card/ RAM - The 3 most important things when picking a computer.
You will want to make sure your PROCESSOR is a 64 bit capable processor with at least 4 cores (Quad core). If you want to take it to the next level, look into 6-8 core processors (if price is not a concern..)
For a video card, I would highly suggest a GeForce (Nvidia) and one of the newer models. I use the Nvidia 550 gtx ti. It's a great card, last I checked the nvidia series with geforce goes at high as the 590gtx. So at least make sure your video card is an Nvidia GTX 500 series.
RAM (Random Access Memory) - The reason a 64 bit processor is so important, is RAM. 64 bit processors allow you to use a great deal of random access memory which will significantly increase computer speed while web browsing and multitasking. It also plays a fairly large roll in the gaming world second to video cards. I would suggest no less than 8 Gigabytes of RAM.

Third: System cooling - this is usually more of a concern if you build your own PC. Lots of people get the best hardware imaginable and don't understand just how much heat that puts out. Although, if you order a computer from a professional website or company, they understand the importance of cooling.

Fourth - Power supply! One of the most overlooked parts of a computer is the power supply. Think about it like this: If you're using the best parts, they demand lots of power (especially more-so than medium and low quality parts). Since I don't know exactly what parts you will use it would be difficult to recommend the perfect power supply. But for a gaming computer, make sure your power supply has at least 750 Watts, preferably more if you are buying a high end machine.

Good machines to look into with a higher budget:
