What's a good gaming laptop?

Stephanie

I have a computer from Gateway and a Dell Inspiring 560. The Gateway runs World of Warcraft perfectly, the Dell- not so much. The Gateway is picky with my Sims 3 (it's about 4-5 years old, dell is 2 years).
I'm planning on selling the dell to get a Laptop, but I want one that I can play Sims 3 and probably WoW.
Does anyone have or know of a good, but reasonably cheap laptop? I really don't want to spend more than $400, and for it to have a webcam & mic also. I don't care too much on the brand.

j44r

or am i gonna have to buy a new computer by then?
yes, it is easy to overclock it to 4ghz... u dont even need water cooling just the best air cooler like the prolimatech or true ultra 120, etc

otherwise u need the water cooling that only costs $60

Answer
Game developers like to make games that are backward compatible with PCs that were made about 3 years prior to its release.
So that gives the average PC about 3 years of playing the newest games on the market.
Considering this configuration is a very high end PC, it should be good for 5 years.

My ultra high end PC I made in 2006 can play Crysis on the highest settings and play any game out there at the highest settings.

It was worth about $3500 4 years ago. It should be good for another year at least.

You can also always use SLI after 2 years. Two 295GTX is more powerful then the world's fastest super computer 7 years ago.

I have seen numbers for estimated number of total devices connected to the internet (world) in the 10 billion+ range, and expected to hit 25 billion by 2015. However I'm looking for stats on computers specifically (not smartphones, tablets, etc.).

I really need the most recent US and world #'s for just computers though. Thanks!
This is research meaning I need sources and real evidence, not guesses

What are some good online zombie games for PS3?

Kyle

So me and my friends love playing zombies together. But we hate play COD zombies. Are there any games we can play online together. Maybe has a story to it. But something new not anything old.

Answer
All Zombies Must Die! (2011) - is a top-down shooter video game for up to four players. The game was released as a downloadable title for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles and personal computers running the Windows operating system. It is the spiritual successor to Burn Zombie Burn.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2012) - First-person shooter that was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. It's a continuation of the zombies mode from Black Ops. New game modes and maps include Green Run, Tranzit, Grief (up to 8 players), Nuketown, Great Leap Forward, Die Rise, and Turned.

DayZ (2012) - This is a PC game. An ARMA 2 mod which features survival horror and shooter gameplay in an open world. The game is online multiplayer. Players must feed their character as well as deal with other players and the living dead.

Dead Island (2011) - is an action role-playing survival horror video game for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is centered on the challenge of surviving a zombie-infested open world island with a major emphasis on melee combat. It is a 4-player coop.

Dead Island: Riptide (2013) - is an action role-playing survival horror video game, also for Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is a sequel to 2011's Dead Island, with a plot continuation as the five survivors arrive on another island in the Banoi archipelago, which has also been overrun by zombies. This has a 5-player coop.

Dead Nation (2010) - PlayStation Network dual-stick shooter. The game detects players' geographic locations and groups them accordingly within the game world, displaying players' progress in that region. Multiplayer can be done locally or online for two players.

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (2010) - is the fifth downloadable content (DLC) pack released for Red Dead Redemption. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and for Xbox 360. Undead Nightmare follows the exploits of John Marston, as he searches for a cure for an infectious zombie plague that has swept across the American Old West. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Collection which does not require the original Red Dead Redemption game to be played. It also has multiplayer, allowing up to four players.

Resident Evil 6 (2012) - is an action-adventure third-person shooter video game and the ninth main installment in the Resident Evil series. It was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. It has a two player mode.

Resident Evil 5 (2009) - it is also has a two player mode. It's on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows as well.

There's also the Left 4 Dead series which is a cooperative first-person shooter arcade-style video game. It is multiplayer in which four survivors must cooperate to survive a zombie apocalypse. Sadly, it is not available for the PS3. It is only available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and Mac OS X. I'm suggesting it because if you want to play it, maybe think about playing it on the PC?

How do you think things would be if the Soviet Union never fell apart?

How do you think they would be doing as of 2013? Do you think that they would have Chinese like restrictions on the internet? And would WWIII have already happened by now that may play out like a Red Storm Rising scenario where WWIII would not be nuclear, but sure as hell close to it?

Answer
I don't know in what form the Soviet Union would be today; where is your point-of-divergence? In the real world, Gorbachev tried to save the Soviet Union by loosening political & economic control but the reforms spun out of his control. Perhaps a Chinese solution (economic freedom but not political freedom) would have been more effective, in which case I suppose the Union would look kind of like China regarding Internet controls (though they didn't seem as conformist and controlling as the Chinese).

I can say with more certainty that there would not be a WW3. Both the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. have so many nukes that neither wants to step too close to the brink. It'd just be more Cold War, or a relationship like we have with China, though that wouldn't make as exciting a computer game.

The better question would be, how (if at all) would things be different in the Middle East? Would Al Qaeda have focused upon the Soviets instead of us? Would the Arab Spring have happened?

What's a popular online game of the 2013 age with these perks?

Tyrannus D

For some time now I've been searching for that one game all of my devotion will be directed towards, but I've never found it. Now I turn towards others for help. I'm looking for a specific kind of game that can be run on a laptop, one that does not require a high-end computer. I'm looking for a game with these perks:
A game that is Free-2-Play
For the computer, and is compatible with a laptop-----Windows 7/8
A small download, one that is safe and reliable
Open-World, and GTA style (Plenty of vehicles to drive, or going on foot.)
Upgrades, like in Saints Row The Third (Car modification, character customization)
Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag style graphics (As realistic as possible)
A game that lasts, something that you won't get bored with in a year
If said game has police notoriety, one that is not as relentless as that of [Prototype] 1/2
Such a game that allows you to be an indestructible foe, like a fully leveled SR3 player
Destruction-On-Demand, that of Mercenaries 2 World in Flames
Vehicle-On-Demand, that of Mercenaries 2 World in Flames as well (Airdropping in vehicles)

There probably isn't a game like this, but I'll never know unless I ask. From my current knowledge, Saints Row The Third, Just Cause 2, and Mercenaries 2 World in Flames are pretty close in comparison with these perks. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

Answer
APB Reloaded is mostly like GTA. It's free-to-play and I think you would enjoy it. It does require a minimal graphics card that can withstand it. If you have a gaming computer, I think you'll be fine. It's a fun game, I think you would enjoy it. It has character and car customization and you can choose between becoming a cop or criminal, it's up to you! It's open world and you can face other people in real-time while doing a mission. Try it out! It is a safe and reliable download, you might be asked to download some toolbars (gamersfirst) but you can easily deny it and move on with the download of the game. Download it from Steam. Have fun!

Answer
6 and 7 are mediocre. The rest are all really bad. 3 is not a good choice because its video card, the GT620, is very low end. You can do so much better by building your own computer. It is really easy. There are dozens of guides out there and there are many people, myself included, who are willing to help you along the way, from picking the parts to assembly. In the source are a few resources which I find to be most useful.

Why is my computer struggling to run Train Simulator 2013 on medium and low settings?

Samuel

Hi,

Just built my self a new £400 computer. The specs are as followed:

CPU: AMD FX 6300
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7770 (ASUS GHz Edition)
RAM: 4Gb of 1600MHz DDR3
Mobo: Biostar TA970
OS: WIndows XP 32 bit
HDD:500Gb SATA III

Even when i OC, i am still struggling to run train sim on my PC on medium setting. This is strange as a get similar FPS even when running on higher quality. I believe it might be to do with the OS i am using, but would like to get a second opinion. The case it is in is cool and the GPU is not getting to hot. I can run games like World of Tanks on Ultra at 40-50 FPS.

Any Ideas?

Thanks all!
Im supprised to hear it may be bottlenecking.... didnt expect that from a piledriver.
I left Train Sim 2013 running for 1 5mins:
CPU @ 4.1 GHz MAX (Was lower most of the time)
GPU@ 1550 MHz MAX Clock speed
@ 1550 Mhz MAX Memory Clock Speed
Temps are:
CPU: 38 C
SYSTEM: 47 C
GPU: 55 C
The game was running about 17FPS average went down to 10FPS Maxed 25FPS

Answer
If increasing the settings doesn't decrease performance, that suggests a CPU bottleneck. I would be surprised to hear of a FX6300 bottlenecking a 7770, though....

EDIT:
what are your CPU temperatures like? is the heatsink fitted properly?

Could be overheating CPU - the CPU will throttle down if it gets too hot. I would be very surprised if a fully functioning 6300 was bottlenecking, but a throttled one might.
