What are all the parts I am going to need to build a gaming PC?

I have never really done this before. I have taken computers apart and put them back together. I have switched out parts from computer to computer. But I have never actually built a PC. Needless to say, this is a learning experience and a fun way I figured to blow off a $1500 bonus from work. Here is the kind of gaming computer I would like.

I want to be able to play games like Kill-Zone, so I need a computer that can handle the graphics.
However, I also want to be able to play old games from 2003-2006 (If I need to rip out parts from older computers I will).
I also like to download a lot of things on my computer. Like, a lot!
I also like to multitask.
That's about it.

Case: Reasonable Price on a Full Tower

Processor: Intel® Core⢠i7 4820K Processor (4x 3.70GHz/10MB L3 Cache)
(TBH, something at least 3.0+ghz or what do you guys recommend)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 -- 4x PCI-E 2.0 x16
(I wanted something that can do up to 3-SLI/3 Graphic cards for future purposes or to hear your opinions)

ram: 16GB 2x8GB DDR3-2133 Memory Module
(I really would like to stick to 8GB Sticks only, would love you hear your opinions and does it make any difference on brand?)

graphic card: GeForce GTX 760 Ti (OEM)
(I was gonna buy one now, and in a year or two later I can buy more if my graphic card cant support the game, am I doing this right to save money and to keep it up to date with future games?)

What are you going to do with it? I hope not only gaming?

SSD's are only good for acces/transfer times.. so it will only help at loading times but ofcourse not in the actual gameplay. It will also help to keep windows snappy and boot it up fast. Just get a 120GB disk to put windows+programs on it plus a 1 or 2 tb hard drive.
Bluray drives are expensive and useless.. it's 2013 and optical media are dead. A DVD player might be useful only for drivers and os installation.

And in my opinion: Don't go for multiple videocards. Selling the old graphics card and buying a single new one is in my opinion almost always a better option. That way you get less heat, newer technology and no need for expensive psu's and motherboards.

Something like this if you can build your own and even that's £385. I can't see a way lower than that and still have even a bottom-rung gaming PC. Really, you need to start in the £450-500 range to get an decent machine.

Why is it no computers have IDE any more it is all SATA?

I have some old IDE hard-drives and none of the new computers have IDE connectors? What should I do? Try to find a old computer?

Also why is is some power supply for the computer are 20 watts and some 500 watts? Also why is it some power supply for the computer and computer fans less 2 or 3 years and some 9 years or more?

Ummm where do I start. Ok here goes.

IDE is made obsolete by SATA, but you can still find new motherboards with new sockets that have them, they're also called PATA. Think of it like buying cassette tapes. Most stores don't even sell them anymore, but some still do, and most new stereo systems don't have cassette players, but a few still do. You just have to look around a little more to find them.

there are no 20W power supplies, but some are 300W and some are 1200W because not all computers need a lot of power, but some do. I have 2 desktops, my workstation/gaming rig and my backup for when the workstation is rendering for long periods of time. The workstation uses 1000W of power and my backup uses 400W, mostly because of the graphics cards.

Some parts are built better and last longer, and usually cost more.

It seems to go in spurts. Technology will make a new breakthrough and every company will race and compete to be on top, then it will calm down and level out for a few years, then a new breakthrough will get everyone scrambling to get ahead again. It's just how it is. Right now, processor and GPU manufacturers are at war again and they're all rushing to make things better and faster, and game makers are using the new advances to pump more and more detail into their games because they can. Don't worry, this too shall pass and things will be calm again, probably in 2012 or 2013. AMD is releasing a new line of highly anticipated processors, supposedly this summer, and Intel just released their highly anticipated processors earlier this year (Sandy Bridge) and I think that's it for a few years (probably improved versions of those processors, slightly faster, but not revolutionary, will come out in 2013 and 2014).

It's frustrating, I know. I've been there. I built my workstation 6 months ago and the RAM is half as expensive now, the Sandy Bridge came out for the same price as the processor I bought and it's faster and better, and the 550ti GPU is out at the same price I paid for my 460s.

I want to know what you would rate this and if there's anything in it that you recommend replacing. Right now it cost $407(310 euros) so I might buy it but I want to make sure its good and the price is reasonable.

The price is reasonable, but the computer is really lousy for gaming. Be prepared to pay $700 if you want to play anything new on high.

The AMD Bulldozer series are alright, but they do not compete well with their Intel counterparts. They may operate at around the same speeds, but the Bulldozers eat power, and often perform slightly worse on games. If you want an AMD, go with something from the Vishera series, which is the series after Bulldozer, and is far superior.

The GT640 will not get you far. You won't be playing high on many 2013 games, if any at all, and you will likely be playing any new games on low-mid settings. Look for a 650TI, bare minimum.
