Are Alienware computers good for anything other than gaming?

Comrade

I am going to get a new computer in the not too distant future (about a year or so), and I was considering Alienware. It is a little pricey, but I found one for $1,300, not too bad. Besides, by the time I get my new computer, they'll already have come out with new ones. Anyway, I've been hearing about Alienware, and the only words I hear associated with it are "Expensive, gaming, terabytes of storage, Vista Home Premium", etc.. I was wondering if it was good for anything in addition to gaming (I'll still use it for gaming, though) like internet surfing, iTunes, work, or anything else I could throw at it. If you could give me some advice it would be appreciated, but, please no random or useless comments. Also, other than Alienware, what brand do you recommend that can handle gaming and the other stuff? All answers greatly appreciated.

Answer
In general gaming computers are designed to handle increased ram, cpu, and graphic usage. Meaning if you get a good gaming computer it will run everyday usages like web surfing, iTunes, videos, ect.

Alienware has been bought by Dell in 2006. Before Alienware was bought by Dell they had great customer support and warranty program. Currently I am unsure (now that they are own by Dell) what kind of customer support and warranty program they have.

To help you choose what computer you are wanting to buy, look at the requirements of the games you would like to play. Make sure you at least buy a computer with the minimum requirements of the game that requires the most.

You can also build your own computer to ensure you get the hardware you desire in your computer. http://www.newegg.com/ is a great site with customer reviews, and good prices.

Basically no matter which company you decide to buy a computer from you are just buying their motherboard, case, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. All the other hardware and software is made by other companies.

Most major computer companies will offer support, warranty, and competitive prices.

Gaming Computers?

Q. What are the best sites to customize a gaming computer?sites similiar to iBuyPower.com.

Answer
DO NOT (I REPEAT) DO NOT DARE GO TO AN ALIENWARE.

I have been putting together gaming computers myself and with my best friend for many years (you can spend a third of the money) for a better computer (that you put together yourself) than the most expensive alienware... (alienwares are ripoffs)

if possible read up on building a computer yourself.

and if you want I'll tell you what to get or atleast allow you to look *contact me*

just as an example the newest computer I'm running was 1600 dollars to build it runs better than the (probably doesn't exsist now) 5000 dollar alien ware equivalent.

Is it okay to use a gaming computer (like Alienware or Dell XPS) for non-gaming purposes?

Pri KOYA

Can we use their high-performance power for other different computer programs other than games?

Answer
Gaming computers are made for games because game require good memory and a good processor.

So if you use your computer for non-gaming puposes you will do everything you have to do faster on a gaming computer then on a non-gaming computer.

What are some good gaming computers like Alienware?

I'm interested in using this computer for video editing and gaming. I'm pretty sure if I get a good gaming computer it will fill all of my video editing needs. My price range is about $1,500-$2,000 (obviously I'd like as inexpensive as possible). I'm looking at Alienware right now, but still not sure. What are some other brands of computers like Alienware?
I'm looking for a desktop computer. I don't know how to build a computer and am not really interested in learning.

Answer
Possibly the dell line of XPS computers that come in desktops or laptops. Those are built for gaming too. My friend has one.
