I'm really not sure which monitor to get, as I'm undecided if 120hz monitors are worth the extra money for gaming. Both monitors are 2ms, I will be playing at 1920x1080 at max settings using the gtx 680, and i was wondering if there is a big difference between 60hz and 120hz? Thanks

Can a 27" 60hz monitor supports FPS game well enough?

I recently bought a 27" Philips 3D monitor recently and sort of cheated by the spec that it supports 120hz. However, 120Hz is only for 3D.
For 2D, it only runs on 60Hz (I got to plug in via HDMI cable, which is the only available besides VGA, there is no DVI :(:(:( )
Anyway, I am looking at steam and it is having a 50% sale currently for Borderlands 2!
Tempting to buy but worrying whether would I face any problem at such low refresh rate?
I know that FPS game often requires high frame rate per sec which depends on machine capability.
But what happens if your refresh rate is lower than the frame rate per sec?

60Hz is pretty much standard for computer monitors these days, with a few going the extra mile up to 120Hz. There's people who swear by 120Hz, but 60Hz should already be plenty smooth. You probably will not see any benefit from having your framerates go beyond 60FPS - extra frames are basically just discarded.
PS. You can enable the Vsync (or "Vertical Synchronization") setting in the games you play in order to cap the games to 60FPS max, which means your video card will not stress itself providing more frames than your monitor can display. This may help reduce heat and power use, assuming the card can keep you steady at 60FPS in the first place.
PPS. I have no issues gaming on a 60Hz professional monitor (Dell U2711) with quite high input lag. Your monitor will likely respond faster, so I'd expect no issues whatsoever. Have fun!
