New Gaming Computer?

I want to start out gaming on my computer. my price range is up to about $1,300. I don't really know anything about what to look for or where to look. I found a site: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

and I wasn't sure what to do there.

If someone could please tell me where to look and what to do it would help out. thanks.

Answer
Generally when people are looking for a well priced computer manufacturer, I point them to that one. It's a good choice.

Well, at the top of the page, you should see, "Configurators | Intel Desktop | AMD Desktop | Notebook | Business & Home PC | Media Center | Same Day Free Shipping PCs | Testimonials" - Well there you go and select one. Best bet is to select Intel Desktop or AMD Desktop (I'd go with Intel), and a new menu should come up, and you select a catogory, and a specific PC from there. I reccomend the: Howie's 2007 Dream PC, since they use a different PSU, I'd get a cheaper case, and upgrade that to water cooling. The price will end up just slightly above $1300. Another good idea is to get the XFX overclocked version of the 8800GTS for an additional $24.

When you check out, be sure to enter promo code: "INSTANT", it will allow you to get:

1. 5% Instant Rebate - For orders with $999 or more. Must enter coupon code "INSTANT" when check out. Plus
2. Free Shipping (No Minimum Purchase Require) - FREE GROUND SHIPPING on all Notebooks, or any desktop PC with FREE SHIPPING tag only. Plus

3.
Free Games (No Minimum Purchase Require) - Free Game "Age of Empire III" & "Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends" with a purchase of any Athlon 64 X2 or Turion System PCs. Plus
Free Software - Free "Microsoft Works 8.5" with a purchase of any CyberPower System PC with OS. Plus

4.
Free CyberPower Multi-Purpose Briefcase - with purchase any CyberPower PC. Plus

5.
Free Wifi Router, HDTV Tuner, 2GB USB Flash Drive + Photo Printer - Purchase Qualify CyberPower PCs with selected Windows Vista OS or Office 2007 and you can select the FREE accessories.

It says the offer ends tonight, but they'll have a new very similar one going on tomorrow, so don't worry about it if you're not ready to purchace right now.

Good cheap gaming computer?

Christian

My current computer, which is an 6-7 year old mac that crashes when I boot up a game as simple as minecraft, is terrible. I need new computer, preferably a PC as they are better for games. Are there any cheap but good computers that are good for gaming?
@Don Well. You could at least TRY to answer my question.

Answer
Gaming systems do not need the latest bleeding edge technology to give hours of fun and satisfaction. There will be people who are going to claim that you need the highest resolution screen (1920 x 1080) and the fastest CPU and GPU with obscene amounts of ram. They think that by picking all the latest bleeding edge parts and slapping them together makes it all work. Choose what works for you in your budget. A 1366 x 768 screen with a middle of the road CPU, GPU will work just fine. You're not going to be playing the bleeding edge games with bleeding edge technology in the highest settings, but you will be having fun.

This will depend on what you call cheap but here is my suggestions.

ASUS laptop.

Brand buying advice

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Choose Wisely

Gaming computer help?

I know I asked this before but I need help with choosing the right desktop or laptop for everyday use and gaming. I play a lot of simulation games such as the new simcity game and 18 wheels of steel. I don't need something outrageous.

Answer
If you need a laptop, don't go over an entry level gaming machine for what you describe. You won't need it. I don't believe the sim games will need the graphics power of something more powerful.
Personally, for the cost of a mid level gaming laptop, I would spend $600 for a really hot desktop and then pick up a $300-$350 laptop for mobility - something light with good battery - I have lugged heavy laptops on travel, and I would get choose something lighter anymore.

Take a look at these rankings:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/best-worst-notebook-brands-2013/3

You can look at some gaming machines here:
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/landing_pages/ideapad/gaming-pcs
http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/Gaming_Products/

Lenovo, Asus, HP, and Samsung are the top 4 laptop brands. I wouldn't consider any other brands.

Dell makes Alienware and they are not worth the money charged.
Acer makes Gateway. You'd have to pay me to use one of their machines.
Sony hardware has generally been good, but they are notorious for putting huge amounts of crapware/bloatware on machines and gathering information on their consumers without their knowledge or permission.
Toshiba has bottomed the rankings. Personally, I have used them and never had a problem, but that does not appear to be the case any more.

I want to get my 9 year old son a notebook computer for the holidays. I would like to spend between $200-$300 ( a bit more if it's worth it) Any suggestions on what to get? Or WHAT TO STAY AWAY FROM? I don't know much about these and any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
What will use be? gaming takes different setup than schoolwork and browsing. higher ram computer can do more at once. higher processor or multiple processors does it faster. memory higher is better. gaming also have to look at video and graphics cards. usb ports more better. cd dvd player burner good for snme. HP and Dell good computers for everday. i have a 7 yr old hp touchpad i got on ebay for 75 bucks. has 1.7 processor 1gb ram and 60gb hard drive. means does most things ok just slowly. wife has 3 yr old hp desktop that is 2.3 quad core 8gb ram and 500gb memory. each core is a processor so it does a lot more a lot faster. Is like a car you can have basic smart car or fast vette. all in what you want to pay.

Is it smart to wait for a good gaming notebook deal till mid Oktober 2009 ?

I want to buy a budget gaming notebook for round $ 1300. Now i had my eyes on the MSI Gt729 because I really want a mobility hd 4850. I cant seem to find any where else a notebook with this graphic card. My question is will there soon be more notebooks with this graphic card for arround $ 1300 be released ?

Answer
Nice!! I had my eye on it for as long as I could remember, factory overclock on the touchpad, everything.

There where some features that really turned me down, the Keyboard was a BIG ONE, I eventually went with an XPS computer for gaming and that one had a Light-up keyboard that is amazing on the fingers, its very quite.... anyway the keyboard SUCKS!!!.

The laptop there is pretty good and if I needed a gaming laptop right now I would wait, the first 5800 chips roled into the stores last week!!!!

Its only a matter of time till an ATI 5670 hits a laptop for under 1500$ so Wait!! you wont be disappointed.

A few reasons:
DX11 (who cares but still!!)
Latest and baddest is always Latest and baddest, not 2nd rate.
Optimized for Windows 7 (real good reviews--but we shall see!!)
So wait!
