Building a Gaming Computer?

GeekTech94

I'm planing on building me a gaming computer and i would like it if you could tell me if these part are compatible together also if these part would make a good gaming computer

OS-Window 7 Home Premium

CPU-Intel Core i7-2600K

Ram-G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)

Case-APEVIA X-TROOPER Junior Series X-TRPJR-BK

MotherBoard-ASUS P8H67-M PRO/CSM (REV 3.0) Micro ATX

CD/DVD Drive-SAMSUNG TS-HB43L/HPBHF

Graphics Card-ASUS ENGTX570 DCII/2DIS/1280MD5

Power Supplies-RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W

HDD-Western Digital WD15EARS 1.5 TB SATA 3.0Gb/s

Answer
I am going to save you $100 right now. How??? GO for an i5 2500K instead. You said this is for gaming. The 2600K is geared toward Rendering, Encoding, Cad and all that jazz. If you want a gaming computer go for the 2500K. With only a 100MHz difference between the two the gaming difference is negligible with the 2500K even being ahead in a couple games http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=288 . Where you want to invest that $100 is up to you. I would suggest this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130583 instead with this RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231311 . It's what I have and together they are very stable even when overclocking( like Ryan said. you need a P67 or Z68 board to take advantage of the overclocking ability of the i5 2500K ) the CPU & GPU. Boards are the same price and my board can handle SLI and Xfire. It is stamped right below the first PCi rail. A bit of the money you saved can be invested in a proper PSU that will be able to power two of your 570s. It is the one I am buying when I buy my second 570. I will be upgrading to a 40" but that will be after the holidays.

workstation/ super gaming computer build?

Otis

I a little confused in some areas when it comes to building a computer I know the basic for regal computers but not workstation. Which is my problem. I need a high end work station. Something that could run programs like after effects, premier and cinema 4d and work really well. I would also like to be able to play some games that coming out along with old ones. Such as skyrim with high powered mods, crysis 3 and fallout. I would like this build to have two xeon processors, water cooling for both and if it is possible have 3 monitors. This has to be under 8,000$ can you build me a computer that can do these things with the price limit. (remember the 3 monitors is not mandatory but if fit put it in there.)

Answer
The benefits of dual xeons are dimishing returns. Spending another $1900 on a second 8 core xeon, you gain about 40% or less in productivity speed, that is with heaviliy threaded software. Right now a single 3960X overclocked to 4.5-5.0Ghz under water will be the fastest rendering you can achieve, and without the hassle of dual socket problems. A lot of programs will simply not run at all with over 12 cores too.

This puts you in the X79 or C606 platforms. Asus and asrock motherboards are fantastic. Gigabyte unfortunatly has voltage problems so i cant reccomend them since your overclocking a 3960x. Make sure you get a motherboard with 8 ram slots, and i would start with 4x8gb sticks of ram(32gb) and see if that is enough, depending on the length of your after effects footage.

If you are also gaming, I would recommend a Gtx 680 sli (as opposed to nvidia teslas). Tesla cards are much more expensive and basicly have extra features. I dont see them as worth it. Two as a start, upgrade to 3 if you really feel its nessisary. Nvidia uses cuda and most adobe softwares can use this resource. Triple monitor nvidia surround should be fine with two gtx 680s, if your running 1080p monitors. If you plan on using 2560x1440 monitors you may want to get two gtx 690s.

For monitors, Dell makes the best panels, Asus is also a new player in this market. BenQ is the best value for 2560x1440. Samsung also makes good monitor panels. 27-30 inch should be what your looking for.

For ram, it depends on the use. If your using ram disk, load on up 64gb of 2133mhz with a cas latency of 9. If not, 16-32gb should be enough for after effects shots.

You will need at minimum a 1200w power supply. If your running 690s, you may need a 1500w.

The water cooling will depend greatly on your case, Silverstone TJ-11 can fit a quad 140mm rad. Mountain mods and Caselabs make amazing modular aluminium cases, and at a good price as well.

Hope this helps.

What video card do you suggest for a gaming computer?

Im building my own gaming computer hopefully soon and I was just wondering what video card you guys suggest. I need something that would look really good playing Battlefield 3 and other games with high graphics. Im learning a lot about computers still I'm new to it, Ive asked a lot of questions about building a computer on here. I just want to be sure about everything before I buy anything, Thanks!

Answer
Just buy a high-end card of either AMD or nVIDIA, with GDDR5 ram, DX11 supported, at least 800Ghz of GPU, and a good 2000RPM max fan. Usually stock fans for graphic cards are terrible, picking up a 40-50$ buck fan is worth it. Scythe along with Arctic Cooling have very good fans. I'd recommend dual gpu cards over SLI or Crossfire. I'm an AMD fan when it comes to processors but nVIDIA has better drivers than AMD when it comes to graphic cards. Also, when looking at video cards from nVIDIA their high end cards, if I'm remembering right, start with GTX. For both of them the higher the card number the higher it is in the series. And lastly, this is a benchmark for all video cards ranking them for their Price-Performance value: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html
The rankings of that benchmark are fairly good considering they ranked Radeon HD 6670, third, which is believed to be the graphic card of the Xbox 720. Considering the Xbox 720 has the best performance for price mindset, the rankings make sense.

Building a gaming computer help, what parts to use?

Kacper244

I want to build my own gaming computer, but I don't really know anything about the parts that I need to purchase. My budget is $500 and that should include the operating system. I also like the Corsair cases. Please tell me which motherboard, CPU, GPU, etc. I should use. Thanks!

Answer
building a gaming rig for only $500 is going to be very rough, but doable. If possible raise your budget to $700 as that will give you a bit more breathing room and will give you parts that will perform better with upgrade paths.
1xAPEX PCV-588 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (Model:PCV-588)

$49.99
1xASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS (Model:P8Z77-V LK)

$149.99
1xAPEX AL-D500EXP 500W ATX12V Power Supply (Model:AL-D500EXP)

$45.99
1xIntel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K (Model:BX80637I53570K)

$229.99
1xG.SKILL Value 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C11D-16GNT (Model:F3-1600C11D-16GNT)

$88.99
1xSeagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (Model:ST2000DM001)

$104.99

This gives you a very decent gaming rig for cheap that will perform well and when you can afford a video card you can add it on. Now this does not come with windows, but you can still find Windows 7 OEM for $99 or use Linux for $0

I have $1000 but I don't want a bad one I would like a good Quality gaming computer but for cheap can u help?

Answer
Best computer for cheap: One you build yourself
Best retail computer for reasonably cheap: cyberpowerpc.com

Well most people will tell you to build it yourself, and that is ALWAYS the best route. It is easier than ever these days, and the Newegg videos show you how to do everything from start to finish (link in sources)

But it isn't for everyone. For gamers who aren't willing to build, consider cyberpowerpc.com over alienware, as they sell things near cost, have a great warranty, and good customer service. They are also more customizable than any other company I have seen, with known parts you find on Newegg when building yourself. No sales tax and free shipping, too.

Consider this computer:
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_III
Customized with GTX 660 = $974
Customized with superclocked GTX 660 ti = $1027

The computer comes with the most popular gaming CPU, the i5-3570k, but it must be customized with a graphics card sufficient for gaming. I priced it out with two that are good price/performance values, but I strongly recommend the GTX 660 ti.

EDIT, regarding Techno's computer:
While the i7-3770k is a superior CPU, gaming performance is derived primarily from the graphics card, and the GT620 is no longer capable of playing the latest games, I find it very hard to believe he plays those games on high settings without any lag. But don't take my word for it, check a performance benchmark site:

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
GTX 660 ti = 4648
GT 620 = 433

No typo, the GTX 660ti is literally over 10 times more powerful.
.

Should I build my own computer with bought parts or buy a premade one?

Q. I've heard it is cheaper to build your own computer than to buy one premade from the store, especially for gaming. I'm sure it would be, but I have no experience building computers. I want a gaming computer but I don't know how to build one.

Should I invest time reading articles on building computers on the net or library, or should I go to my nearest computer store and buy one ready-made?

I think I'll get people telling me to buy one from the store, but I'm pretty sure you get better value when you build it yourself.

Answer
Build one yourself.

From what you've said, you'd get the most value by building it yourself. I'm taking a wild guess that you have some time to spare as, well, you're playing games aren't you :) So put some of that time into reading articles and building computers. You can get a great overview in about 7 days. Maybe 2 hours a day of research. Then you should be set to go out and buy the parts and put it together.

I want to build my own gaming computer, but not at the price of an alienware. What parts do i need for everything.

Answer
Okay, I'll just give you an example of parts that you need to build a decent gaming PC:

Here is an example:

Intel Core i3-2120 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I32120 - $128

GIGABYTE GA-H61M-DS2 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - $55

G.SKILL Value 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9S-4GBNT - $20

HITACHI HDS721050CLA362 (0F10381) 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - $80

ASUS EAH6670/DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - $93 ($73 after rebate)

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition VL80001W2Z Black SECC / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $50 ($40 after rebate)

COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS500-PCARD3-US 500W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply - $45 ($35 after rebate)

LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM - $18

inland Home/Office Series 88033 7.2 Watts 2.0 Speaker -$10

inland 70126 Black 107 Normal Keys USB Wired Standard Keyboard / Mouse Combo - $13.79

Acer S201HLbd Black 20" 5ms LED-Backlight LCD monitor 250 cd/m2 ACM 12,000,000:1 (1000:1) - $100

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

TOTAL : $712.79 ($672.79 after rebate). This is a perfect example of a COMPLETE BUILD that is decent enough to let you play ALL GAMES on mid settings and some on high settings (depending on game's requirement and resolution you intend to play with).

NOTE : newegg parts and prices.

BTW, this is just an example and you could build an even better gaming PC depending on your budget of course =D

Basically, this is the CHEAPEST decent gaming PC that I could recommend to you.

How to build a gaming computer and what website to buy parts?

newyorksfi

I wanted to buy an xps 730 the best one but its to expensive i want to know where to buy the parts and what should i buy. I wana build a gaming computer not to expensive my buget is $600 maybe $700 i want quality if i can get quality for cheap thats even better thanks

Answer
Newegg does have a very good reputation. I'm in Australia and I know about them!

If I was gonna build a computer at the moment, my value for money parts would be:

Intel E8400 or E8500 CPU
Midrange Asus or Gigabyte motherboard
nVidia 9600GT 512MB graphics card
1 or 2 Western Digital SATA Drives (500, 640 or 750 GB)

Don't skimp on the power supply (get quality), get at least 2gb of ram and leave youself enough money for fans, case, etc.

Answer
At $400 forget gaming. At $500-$600 you can get something.

At such a low price point the best value won't be building from scratch, because Windows alone costs $105. You've gotta add that to the cost of your hardware. Someone quoting you a price of $595 for parts isn't helping because your total cost will be $700. Your best value will probably be getting a basic computer system on sale, then adding a graphics card (and possibly a power supply).

For example, here's a budget gaming PC. Right off the shelf it can play games like WoW, Rift, even Call of Duty:MW2 at screen resolutions of 1440x900 or lower. Its not a good choice for higher resolution monitors or games much harder than those, because the Radeon HD 5570 graphics card is only entry-level.

But for gaming you'd be better off starting with this:

Then adding these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027

Then you'd have a system capable of playing games at full HD resolution of 1920x1080. The processor is a fast dual-core, which is fine because:

a) clock speed is what matters most in a gaming CPU, not the number of cores
b) most games aren't coded to use more than two cores.
c) 70% of gaming performance is determined by your graphics card, not your CPU

So you're better off having a fast a dual-core or triple-core CPU combined with a $120 graphics card, than having a slower-clocked quad-core with a $60 graphics card.

What's a good place for buying a good Quality gaming computer for kinda cheap?
