My specs are a 17 2600 a Gtx 680 2gb but I will be upgrading it to the Gtx 880 as soon as it comes out. I also have 8 GB of ram and 1TB hard drive and am using a 27 1080p monitor right now but I will like to upgrade it to one of these since am going to get a Gtx 880

Answer
That resolution needs some serious horsepower for gaming. If you just want to use it for movies or other stuff then it's okay. But for gaming, you will need a Radeon HD 7970 or something like that for reasonable fps with high settings in many games today.

I would personally just opt for a 1080p monitor as it is more than enough and will be for years to come. But if you really want to buy the bigger resolution monitors, I would suggest the 1440p one as the lag will be lower.

Also check out the brightness and other image settings and see which one has better specs there.

what is the highest resolution pc games run ?

Jo

i know it depends on specs , but would i need a special monitor to run games at 1440p or higher resolution

Answer
maybe you could clarify your question a bit more, it's quite vague.

if you want to play on fullHD, you obviously need a fullHD screen, if you want to play on 1440p you need a 1440p screen, that's it. your hardware (cpu, gpu, graphics card) should support it too of course

a lot of pc games nowadays can run on more than fullHD, so if you would hook up multiple screens to your graphics card (that supports multiple screens) you can be able to run games even at 3240*1920 if you want.

What screen resolution is better for gaming?

I am using a 1920x1080 monitor. And i was wondering, what gives better quality, my native 1920x1080 resolution, or a 2560x1440 downscaled to 1920x1080 one? I know 1440p resoltuion works like super sampling anti aliasing, but which should i use for better quality outcome? Thanks.

(If you're not sure about what i am or you are talking about, don't mind answering.)

Answer
Use your monitor 1920x1080 resolution, since its only resolution i know is common rez for HD monitors. But you can use HDMI cable to increase the quality, if the video card and the monitor has the HDMI connection.
