I've been looking at Planar and ViewSonic. Each of them has a model I like, but I don't want to overlook something else really good. There are so many choices out there and I've done enough searching and reading reviews to know I'd like some opinions about my specific needs.

I need height adjustable. I think I should be able to get 8ms response, 800:1 contrast and 600+ (?) brightness in the monitor I buy without too much trouble.

My eyes tire easily and I need a larger screen to help with that. I do mostly office-type work. I expect to be doing a little more photo or video in the near future - not professional. I'm not a gamer, but I need really good graphics to help my eyes. I want LCD, also, to reduce my radiation exposure.

I'm also interested in any opinions about buy at a store, or buy online.

Thanks for the help.

Answer

how do you get used to playing on a 8ms lcd screen when your used to a 2ms computer monitor?

The cole t

I suck at games when I go to peoples houses that have 8ms lcd tv screens. Playing on my xbox 360.
The difference in refresh time greatly affects my game time. The difference between 2ms and 8ms is enough to impair my gameplay.

Answer
That is the lamest excuse I have ever heard.

The difference between 8ms and 2ms refreshes cannot be distinguished as a lag in timing during games. It merely prevents "tearing" and would have no affect on your ability to play games.

I dont know anything about computers and I want a compatible monitor that is high quality, good resolution and can handle good graphics nicely. Nothing too big like 40'' or small like a 18''.
Look up the computer, "iBuyPower Gaming PC (569TA) with AMD Phenom II Processor, 1TB Hard Drive, 8GB Memory"

Answer
Ok, so for a gamingmonitor, look for these specs:

Under 8ms response rate- you will find most around 4-5ms
1080p or above
Has DVI or HDMI ports
LED backlit
LCD screen
widescreen
the more contrast, the better.

Whats a good response time for a LCD monitor that has zero ghosting and is good for games and movies?

How can i tell if my monitor is an LCD monitor?

ssnake4206

Reason why is because i want to buy a $40 dollar thing that allows me to connect my 360 to my monitor, and it needs to be LCD. i dont know if this is LCD, but its a dell Flatscreen which can only go either 800x600, or 1024x768. I use 1024 768. if i push my finger on the screen it makes the ripple effect. My monitor is not a bulb monitor.

Answer
Yes it is, however be careful with your fingers there, press too hard and you can permanently damage your screen :-< (Lcd's are also thin )

Oh and also unless your monitor is widescreen, 16:9 aspect, which i see it isn't if those are your only resolutions , your xbox 360 games will have black bars on top of the screen, so you should really consider a 22" widescreen lcd, wih a fast response rate (8ms or less), if you're serious about your gaming.
