Monitor for gaming computer?

Chase

Here's what I have so far http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gsER

First of all, which is better between a 24 inch and 27 inch? I can't afford 1920x1200 so I am getting 1920x1080. I am going to be playing WoW, SWTOR, Battlfield 3, Crysis and others.

I was looking at these monitors specifically.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043T7FHK/?tag=pcpapi-20

And this one is 1920x1200 but is a little bit more expensive. I would be willing to get it if it's worth it over the others.

Answer
I'm not going to look at all of these for you so I can teach you what to look for.

Response time: The time it takes for the input to get from the computer to the monitor and then display it.

Refresh rate: The numbers are whats important, if you play games at 30FPS in Vsync, you only need a 30Hz. If you play 60FPS constantly you'll want 60Hz, and so on, and so forth.

The bigger, the slower: a larger screen requires more space to be refreshed constantly so usually, a larger screen will take longer to refresh and give you the closest to current time there is. Smaller screens are usually better for that exact reason but since you can't get a monitor UNDER 2MS response time for some reason, don't sweat it if you've got a 34" you're looking at if the response time is 2-3MS.

As for brand names: Asus, Acer and HP are all big names and are usually good about their warantys in the event that something does go wrong. I'm not familiar with many besides those and like Samsung so I can't offer a brand preference but I can tell you this much.

Edit: Forgot, 1200p doesn't really matter as some games don't even support that resolution(namely those ported to consoles) and running @ 1080P will give you a higher FPS than running @ 1200p so overall, 1080p is the average for a reason.
Side note: If you're using an Nvidia graphics card, they run best at around 1080p anyway, AMD does best(for some reason) at 1600p but few monitors actually display in resolutions that high.

Answer
No, not a good gaming computer or a good deal.

$953 for an X2 and an 8600GT? Including monitor and OS from rough guesses based off of newegg prices, this should cost ~$800, not over $950. In addition, the 8600GT makes for a poor gaming video card. You really should be looking for the 3850, 3870, 9600GT, 8800GS/GT/GTS (but only the 512MB models, avoid the 320/640 models.)

If I were you, I'd pass on this and keep looking.

Hello, i want to know whats a good gaming monitor that i could buy for no more than 300 pounds. The computer i have is an alienware aurora.
My alienware costed about 1k 500 pounds

Answer
You want something with a high contrast ratio like (>40000:1)
(dont worry too much about the contrast ratio, but dont go below 20k:1)
very low response time (2ms)

Then I'd get the largest size monitor that has those things, is within your price range and is a brand name you have heard of.

How can I switch between a gaming monitor and an HD TV for my Xbox 360 and soon to be Xbox One?

Nick

I currently have an Xbox 360 that is connected to an HD PVR through component cables. I would like to know if it's possible to also connect it to an HD monitor through HDMI and run that cable about 10 feet without losing response time and quality. I wanted to set up an HD gaming monitor right next to my computer monitor because these monitors are better for professional gaming because they have such fast response times and your eyes are able to see the entire monitor.

I like to play family games and sports games on the big screen but also like to play FPS games on a monitor. I just don't know if I am able to get an HDMI cable long enough to reach my monitor from where my Xbox is positioned. I don't want to move my Xbox back and forth and I am not able to unplug any cables due to the meer fact that they are hidden behind a furniture set that can't be taken apart. All answers are much appreciated, thanks for your time.

Answer
10 feet of HDMI is what i have and it works fine and you can buy them up to 30 feet. and you should just be able to plug into both and play using both screens, if you're not then i suggest cable splitting, just use your primary cable for the fps professional gaming and there still will be minimal lag time. You're family games will suffer a little but barely noticeable too and in reference to the pvr, im not sure how you can hook that up to the monitor as well as the tv at the same time but you might have to sacrifice and only record on one.

I would like to build a HIGH end gaming computer. I would like to know what parts to buy.
What CPU? What Motherboard? What Video Card? and the other computer parts. Budget 2500 dollars.Thank you.

Answer
$2500 will get you a really powerful machine. Here is what I recommend:
CPU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070&cm_re=2600k-_-19-115-070-_-Product
Mobo-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128480&cm_re=p67-_-13-128-480-_-Product
GPU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130655&cm_re=gtx_580-_-14-130-655-_-Product

HDD-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152245&cm_re=samsung_2tb-_-22-152-245-_-Product

Your subtotal for this build is $2405. This will crush any game out there on a single monitor. You'll be set for a while with this rig. However, if you want more power, you can easily get it. The mobo and PSU can support 3 GTX 580s in tri-SLi. I could have gone with more GPU power, but I went with an SSD and watercooling instead. An SSD is vital for a rig of this caliber. An SSD is what makes a system feel fast. Watercooling not only looks awesome but it is silent and achieves much better cooling than any aircooler ever could. The rest is fairly self explanatory.

What parts do I need for a gaming computer?

Gamer197

I'm looking to buy a gaming computer. My money range is $0-$1200 and I want my gaming computer to play most games on max settings and those newer titles such as Battle Field 3 on normal/medium at least.I heard building your own computer is cheaper but I don't know anything about computers. Could someone please help and list good video cards, processors etc. and where to get them. Or you could just put a good pc for a reasonable price. Also can you put the links in your answers.

ALTEC LANSING BXR1221 15 Watts RMS 2.1 Speaker System - $30

TOTAL :$1200 ($1150 after rebate), this is the best COMPLETE BUILD that I could give you for that price, it is well balanced and it already comes with an aftermarket cooler and speakers. The monitor is 1080p and with the GTX 560 ti 448 cores you could play all games on max settings on 1080p with good FPS.

The GTX 560 ti 448 cores is a DOWNGRADED GTX 570 thus it is only slightly slower than the gtx 570:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/499?vs=306

BTW, the motherboard that I have provided is SLI ready that is why I have given you the 850w Corsair PSU that is capable enough to support 2 GTX 560 ti 448 cores in SLI on a high end system with overclocking.

And since the GTX 560 ti 448 cores has the same power requirement as that of the GTX 570, then it will be our basis of how much power is needed in SLI:

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 570

On your average system the card requires you to have a 600 Watt power supply unit.

GeForce GTX 570 in 2-way SLI

A second card requires you to add another ~225 Watts. You need a 750+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system (800+ to a KiloWatt is recommended if you plan on any overclocking).

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-review/13

So, basically, what I have given you is still upgradeable to SLI and you could still add an SSD (120 gb is good, but this is only optional). =D
