What is better for gaming, A monitor, or a TV?

Jaskson

I was wondering what is better to play video games on, a computer monitor, or a TV. I have a ps3 and i have been looking around and i noticed that monitors come between 19" and 24" and the smallest TVs seem to be 32".I will be using it for my ps3 as well as hooking it up to my laptop occasionally and hopefully soon a desktop. The main reason that im looking at a tv is because monitors dont have component inputs, so i could not hook up my pvr to the tv. I dont want anything too big though. I wanted to see which is better and what you can recommend.

Answer
For a screen, go with a 42" plasma by panasonic, its the smallest they make, with a 15.8 GBps or greater transfer rate HDMI cable. Panasonic bought Pioneer's panel technology when they went out of business. Plasmas don't have that screen burn issue any more either. Plasmas have 0.00001ms or something like that pixel response, and true 600hz refresh rate. (600 pictures per second). The problem with 240hz and 120hz tv's is its all picture processing and creates a fair amount of input lag and unnatural movement. LCD TV's are terrible for gaming, no matter what the refresh rate. If you want a small screen, which would give you a very sharp, crisp picture, get a Samsung 2770FH monitor, its a 27", with a 10.2 GBps transfer rate HDMI cable. They are a 1ms pixel response time monitor, 60hz which is ps3's native output refresh rate, and the reason pixel response is important is because the lower the response time, the sharper the picture stays. I owned one and it was a wonderful screen, and I noticed a big difference between it and the samsung 23" 2ms monitor immediately playing F1 2010. I played black ops on a friends tv that was a 8ms and it was absolutely terrible, got so blurry trying to aim you couldn't tell what was what. Anywho, hope this helps, get internet that is at least 1 mega byte download speed, and always set whatever screen you get to game mode.

Answer
The Monitor. The monitor does 1080, the TV only does 720.

Not like there's a GIGANTIC difference, but there's also not a gigantic difference losing 5 inches of screen.

So, I say monitor. I play all my games on a 24" monitor, and they look better than on my friend's 38" Vizio. That could all also be settings, because my PS3 looks better on the monitor than his TV, and so does his PS3. Though, the extra screen space is nice for Co-op.

TV and Gaming on Monitor?

Mike R

I have a HD HP Monitor that I hook up to my Mac laptop. I want to be able to watch TV and play PS2 on this monitor.
Is that possible?
What do I need to purchase to be able to watch TV or play PS2 on the monitor?

Thanks

Answer
for ps2: try buying a vga or dvi port to component video cable

for tv: i think you need a tv tuner to your mac then connect it to your monitor

Gaming monitor or tv?

I am building my PC and Should I spend money on a 19" monitor or is a tv good enough? (my tv uses HDMI sockets and it is a 32" toshiba LCD)

Answer
Well most tvs are not made for gaming. So they have much higher response times, so you will get a lag in between what is actually happening and what you see.
So you want to sue a tv or monitor with less the a 5ms response time (the lower the better, as 1ms can be difference between living and dying).
So maybe do some research on your tv, find out the response time on it.

Also if you are using a tv, you should make sure its capable of 1080P (1920x1080) resolutions.

A good gaming monitor for someone on a budget?

I need a gaming monitor and I have found an excellent 'BenQ' monitor. However, it was out of my budget, around $300. My desk isn't the biggest so it would be nice if it is smaller. The price range im hoping to get one for is around $150, if they have a decent gaming one for that price. Thank you!

Answer
I use Sony Playstation 3D display. I play PS3 and my pc games on it all the time. It's also good for watching movies. It also works with Cable TV. It comes with 3D glasses and a ps3 game. Not sure if that's what you're looking for. It's a 24" display with full HD and I think that the price is around 200 or so. I got it last year on a sale for 100 and I like it. If you don't have a ps3, you could sell the game and glasses. Hope I helped

How can I display my TV screen on my laptop?

George

Hi, is it possible to watch whatever is on your TV, on your laptop? I have a ps3 and wanted to record some footage so if I could get a way to use my laptop as a gaming monitor, that would be great.

P.S. I've watched a lot of the youtube videos on how to record ps3 and know about the capture card way of recording but I am looking for some way that is practically free.

Answer
The only way you can do that is with a capture card. There is no "free" way of capturing video.

I am wanting to purchase a gaming monitor solely for video games simply because I play so much that I feel I need to get with the times. Plus I saw one of my favorite games, Fifa, on a friends gaming monitor and the comparison was incredibly different from my TV. That being said I know the monitors do not have normal red white and yellow audio outputs. My headset cords have a tan/pink cord that I have yet to discover a use for which I heard is for mic input/output. Just to clarify I am in the dark here so I do not know as much as I should. I will be using an HD cable for the video/audio from xbox to monitor but I just want to figure out how to make the turtle beaches sound work. Any help would be greatly appreciated here's the monitor I am planning on purchasing at the moment.

I want a gaming monitor for my PS3 my TV is shitty.
Want it as fast as possible at least 2ms.

Answer
You don't need 2ms. 2ms would mean you need 500 frames per second to really utilize 2ms. 5ms is good.

I would get this one because it's so cheap right now and it's a good monitor:

Use PROMOCODE : VALPAK10 to save $10 which makes this $99.

This is a good one too:
