I am going to build a new gaming PC. What is the best PC I could make under $1200. Could you please list the parts :)

I do not need the monitor, keyboard, mouse or the operating system. And I also have a 1tb drive already

Answer
Here is a build I made

You can upgrade to a GTX 580 and the PSU to a 750W but that would put you around $50 over budget.

Edit: I really suggest not getting an AMD Bulldozer since they're really not good for gaming and consume a lot of power. Don't be fooled by that "MOAR COARS!" marketing.

Is the GeForce GT 620 comparable to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti?

Ian

I recently got a GeForce 550 Ti but my current computer's power supply wasn't good enough so I got a new computer. It has enough watts to power the GeForce 550 Ti. It came with a GeForce GT 620 & I was wondering if that's good enough to run most games (i.e. GTA IV PC)? Which will most likely run smoother too because they both say they have 1 GB dedicated RAM. I know GeForce is better for the fact that it can support 2 monitors but I only use one.

Answer
No... the GT 620 is a much lower-end, slower card. It's a renamed GT 530 (which was itself just a renamed GT 430).

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/nvidia_launches_fermi_based_geforce_gt_610_gt_620_gt_630

So the GT 620 is basically 1/3 the performance of a GTX 550 Ti.

For graphics cards (from both Nvidia and AMD), it's not simply "higher is better" when it comes to model numbers.

The first digit of a card model is just the series number, or how recently the card was made. So...

The GT 620 is a series 6 card (released in 2012)
The GT 520 is a series 5 card (released in 2011)
The GT 430 is a series 4 card (released in 2010)

While newer series tend to improve slightly over earlier ones, that number alone doesn't tell you anything, because every series includes models ranging from low-end budget cards to high-performance cards.

So you should IGNORE the series number (first digit) and look at the 2nd digit... that's what tells you the approximate performance level of a card.

1-2 = low-end budget cards
3-4 = entry level cards
5 = low-midrange gaming cards
6 = midrange gaming cards
7 = high-midrange gaming cards
8+ = high-end gaming cards

Also, GT cards are weaker than GTS cards, which are weaker than GTX cards.

So a GT 430 is faster than a GT 520 (3 >2). A GTS 450 is better than a GT 630 (5 >3)

To match the performance of a GTX 550 Ti, you need a GTX 650.
