pc gaming monitor guide image

I've seen something about video cards and that they can make my PC game run faster but I have no idea what video cards are or how can I upgrade them xD.
Thanks in advance :$

Answer
you are right, modern games need a graphics card (or also called a gpu) to run properly.
it can be a problem identifying what type of graphics card your computer will take.

there is 2 types.
the older type is an agp card. here is a pic http://www.vistax64.com/attachments/graphic-cards/10258d1235109561-work-around-intel-doesnt-supply-vista-driver-800px-agp_slot.jpg its one of the grey slots
the newer card is called pcie x 16 here is pic http://www.3dnews.ru/_imgdata/img/2008/05/23/fox/slots.jpg its the yellow slot.

the graphics card just sits in one of these slots and you connect your monitor to it, through one of the little panels at the bottom rear of pc case

you will have to find which one your pc takes. google you make and model number of ypur pc followed by specs. eg. acer aspire t671 specs. or just take side off pc
these will tell you what type of card your pc takes.

also the better graphics cards need more power to run.
most mid to high level cards need a 400w psu (power supply unit, where the power lead enters pc)
but most store bought computers only have a 250w or 300w psu. so sometimes you have to upgrade this as well. but some lower level cards will run on a 300w psu.

also you need a balance.
a slow processor with a fast graphics card will slow the graphics card, as the processor feeds data to the graphics card, the gpu will have to wait on the slow processor.
this also works in reverse with a fast processor and slow gpu.

could you say your pc specs in additional details.
speed of processor
amount of ram
computer name and model number

and i will try to advise you more

it sounds daunting, but it is quite easy as long as you know some basics

While using dual monitoring, how do I get SOUND in both devices?

KRO

Separate, not both sounds in one places. Ex) Wanting to WATCH and LISTEN to Netflix on TV monitor (using HDMI cord) and WATCH and LISTEN to pc game (sims3) on computer monitor but SEPARATELY. Right now monitors are correct but both sound from both monitors are coming out of TV at the same time or vice versa when I try to adjust it. I've tried the step by step guides online but all have a step that calls for a recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" and I can't FIND any of those... Very frustrating! HELP!

Answer
You would need to add a second soundcard. Most computers have only one sound card or subsystem, and all sounds have to go through that. Windows will pass all sound through the one device.

Randy

I need to connect it to my monitor through the HDMI input and to my sound system by the red and white audio cables. Is there an adapter like that somewhere?
(also the sound system is 10ft away from the monitor)

Thanks!
ALSO, my xbox does not have an HDMI output

Answer
Ok, you need a vga converter box follow the following links...

http://www.amazon.com/VGA-Monitor-Input-Convertor-Selector/dp/B000JCLLUW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1231379773&sr=8-1

or

and you need a Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable you can get a official xbox one from the following link for lowest price (around 8$)

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-COMPONENT-HD-AV-VGA-CABLE-FOR-MICROSOFT-XBOX-360_W0QQitemZ280296815621QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Accessories?hash=item280296815621&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A15%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1308

once you have both thoes items, you can connect you xbox to your monitor. But, if you want sound you have to get a Male to Male rca cable for left and right audio. (this cable is really cheap 5$)

http://cgi.ebay.com/6ft-RCA-STEREO-AUDIO-PATCH-MALE-CABLE-CORD-FOR-TV-DVD_W0QQitemZ390022394304QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item390022394304&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

when you get thoes 3 items the setup is fairly simple but there are guides online.
email me if you have any questions.

How do connect my Commodore Amiga 500 to the internet?

lewis95

I have a standard wireless modem and I also have a PC if that helps.
A guide on how to set up, install and browse the internet would be great.
At the moment I just have an amiga, psu, mouse and some games and a monitor.

Thank you fellow Commodorians

Answer
The only way is to get a modem the will connect to the serial port. The fastest connection speed I know of is 56k. There are a couple brands out, the most common one I remember seeing is made by US Robotics. Even if you can connect you need a browser that will handle it. For more answers I recommend trying Amiga.org

How do I install a new video card?

Some Guy

My OS is Windows XP Professional.

I like PC gaming. I would like to install a new video card, as my current integrated Intel Pentium isn't doing too well. How do I install a new video card in my desktop?

And if you know of any guides, tutorials, or advice, please share.

Thanks

Answer
first figure out if your machine has onboard video, or a separate card...

If it is onboard, then the video is part of the main board... Not a biggie, it just requires you to look inside the machine for an open PCI slot...

PCI slots are normally beige or white in color, and will be on the lower left corner of the mainboard near the rear panel...

Now anytime you are inside the case of a computer a couple things to keep in mind... you wanna make sure the machine is powered down, but still plugged in to a properly grounded outlet,,,

Make a point to touch the metal frame of the inner case, before you handel anything else. This way, any static buildup you may have on your skin or clothes will be shunted to ground, and you'll minimize the risk of damaging something... I also use a static wrist strap anytime I am under the hood of a machine, but, a regular person, might not ever have another need for the strap...

anyhow,

If the machine has onboard video, and an open PCI slot, then it is a simple matter to take the new PCI video card, and plug it into an open slot. Just make sure to remove the knockout in the rear panel for that slot first. The card will only fit in a socket it was meant for, and it only goes one way... check your directions for any other connections like to audio.

once the card is seated in the slot, then close up the case, and remember to make your rear panel connections per the directions that came with your card...

If you had a separate card for video ad not onboard as part of the main board, then it is even more simple still... just open the case, and remove the card your monitor was plugged into, and replace it with your new card. then make your connections on the rear panel.

close up the machine and reboot the machine... If you replaced an onboard video with an add on card, you may have to disable the onboard video in the system setup aand you can get to that by pressing F2 durring system start up, before the windows wash screen... once the machine boots, then just follow the setup instructions that came with the card to install the drivers and reset your monitor settings...

good luck...

How much would a computer that can run Starcraft 2 cost?

Daray

I am thinking of getting a new computer but i know virtually nothing about computers. I was wondering how much would a computer that will be able to run new games like Starcraft 2 cost? Thanks.

Answer
Building yourself you could get away with 500 CDN.

Pre built... like over 1000 CDN.

By the way, building it yourself is like building lego. Go to PC Hardware Discussion on Gamespot and tell them your budget, and they will tell you what to order. Then just look up a video or picture guide on how to do it. Always order from Newegg. It's real cheap with excellent customer service.

P.S: If you have no mouse, keyboard and monitor add like 170.

Good luck.
