Hey, I am looking for a really good PC screen recorder that can actually record gaming. Any suggestions? It would be epic if you knew of a free program but it's probably impossible. So a purchasable one is good.

FRAPS is good, but it makes a lot of people lag in game, I use Bandicam and it works perfectly fine, I get HD quality and I don't lag at all.

FRAPS is really the only software worth using but it's not free. You don't really get free and high quality together. Xfire has built in recording functions but it only works for games that it can hook into and support. It's decent but it obviously won't record your desktop or anything else, just the game.

I want to get a PC screen recorder, yet i don't want to pay a lot of money. Does anybody know of a great recording program that is free, if not cheep. I want to make video game recordings if this helps any. Thanks for answering!

The best - Camtasia - http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia/ - The reason being it can handle all sorts of screen recording - especially from commercial video which some other programs have problems with. This is not a free program ($300).

Fraps is supposed to be a good program, but I've never used it but it is only $37.

But there are some very good free ones...

BB FlashBack Express - http://www.bbsoftware.co.uk/BBFlashBack_FreePlayer.aspx - good screen video capture program. Captures to AVI and SWF formats. The problem with this one is it puts a halo around the screen cursor which cannot be removed.

Expression Encoder - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=5c3c5f97-678c-4c99-a7fc-f84f320c626f - An advanced audio/video-encoding and live-broadcasting application. A huge program but the video capture is great. Captures to WMV format. The free version is good enough for most things.

Screen to Video - http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html - great screen video capture program. Can capture screens to AVI, SWF, FLA and WMV formats. My favorite free recorder.

Wink - http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ - A tutorial and presentation creation software. The screen capture is great. Captures to SWF format.

The most common free one is CamStudio - http://camstudio.org/ - but I stopped using it some time ago after I found it could not capture subtle gradients.

Me and my friends want to start a Youtube channel where we play different online and PC games like The Sims 1, 2, and 3, and some different free online MMO's. We would also be having video call voice chats while we play them. I want to know what is the best screen recorder to get that can record about 15-20 minutes of game play. I was then going to record the voice chat with Audacity. What would be a good video editing software then too? I only have Windows movie maker. Would that be a good one just to start with? And what screen recorder gives the best quality for the cheapest price? I know about Hypercam, and Fraps. Any other good ones? Thanks in advance!

Hypercam is a desktop screen recording program, it's not suitable for game recording.

To record a game in high quality, you have to use DirectX hooking program like Bandicam or Fraps.
I prefer to use Bandicam because it's easy to use, and much less lag than Fraps.
Also, you can upload the recorded file to YouTube without converting because the recorded file is much smaller than Fraps (1/20).

There are many screen recorder, Total Screen Recorder is the right one which I would recommend to record full screen game without any laggy crap recording problems. I use it to record WOW and CS games for many times.

Fraps and hypercam are both for game recording. If u r the one, I'm sorry to tell you that there's no free screen recorder which can deal with gameplay. No mention to other freeware because none of them is designed for recording games.

And Fraps might be the cheapest one among them.

I record thing as well but i'm sure we are taking on different boats, so the screen recorder which I use might do little help to you.

Buy Fraps, I'm a videogamer with 18-year experience on console, so trust me :)
