PC Monitor vs TV for gaming?

Q. Basically I'm looking for a screen I can use for gaming on a Xbox and for watching films etc. I originally looked for a TV but all the decent TVs nowadays have all this smart wifi rubbish and you can't really get a decent small non smart TV with a refresh rate good enough for gaming. So I was wondering if I would get better value for money by getting a PC monitor instead. If so any good models you suggest?

Answer
A lot of pro gamers use computer monitors for gaming instead of TVs. the reason for this is the response time, sometimes the TV's cause lag, but Computer Monitors don't that is why pros use the monitor. Plus some people don't like big TVs because you gotta keep turning your head. I you want to use a computer monitor i would go with a good one that isn't to cheap but isn't to expensive, and make sure you get a size that you are comfortable with.

This website explains the lag and game mode purposes on TVs.

PC Monitor vs TV for gaming?

Q. Which is a higher quality picture, a pc monitor or tv for a ps3?
(About a 24' to 28' tv/monitor)
Also is there any benefits from one or the other besides image quality?

Answer
TV is better for gaming. Nowadays smart TV's are specially made for gaming and the sound effect is better in TV.

PC monitor & TV at the same time?

Q. I have a gaming pc.
I want to connect my Sony Bravia TV to it, as a second monitor.
Basically, what i want is to see the same picture on both screens at the same time.
My card is ATI 4870.

Can i do it? if yes, how?
What exactly i need to connect and what is the process?

Thank you very much.

Answer
just connect tv to pc with hdmi or dvi lead.

then go into CCC (ati control centre) and go to the display tab. click on find monitor and it should find your tv.
then choose which one is the main monitor.

thats really it.

some tv's do not respond well to running games from a pc

I would like step by step directions on how to do this. I want to be able to use my TV as a monitor so that I can watch movies, and play PC games on my TV. I do not want to watch TV on my PC. Please include what cables I will need for video as well as audio. From my research, I think I need an S-Video cable, and a cable to connect to my headphone connector in order to get sound. I could be wrong. Please do not give me a website or any peer sharing websites. Thank you.

Answer
you are correct ... u need an 1/8th" stereo jack to dual rca for ur sound .. and if ur pc has an svideo out plug that up ... then go to ur display properties and set up the second monitor .. set a hotkey combo to switch between displays ..

How do I choose which PC monitor games go full-screen in?

Alex

I have windows 7 64 bit and I want to play fallout 3 full-screen on my TV via HDMI cable. I have dual monitors set up but when I drag steam onto my TV screen and start up fallout there it still makes it full-screen on my laptop monitor. How do i fix it to where all games default to full-screen on my TV monitor?

Answer
There should be an option from your graphics card panel about monitor configuration or something similar.

if i play a PC game, and im using my tv as the monitor, how will the game run, will it effect it an anyway?

Answer
You shouldn't notice a difference, though higher resolutions might affect the game's frame rate because it's more work to draw each frame. (A physically larger screen with the same number of pixels won't make a difference.)

While using dual monitoring, how do I get SOUND in both devices?

KRO

Separate, not both sounds in one places. Ex) Wanting to WATCH and LISTEN to Netflix on TV monitor (using HDMI cord) and WATCH and LISTEN to pc game (sims3) on computer monitor but SEPARATELY. Right now monitors are correct but both sound from both monitors are coming out of TV at the same time or vice versa when I try to adjust it. I've tried the step by step guides online but all have a step that calls for a recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" and I can't FIND any of those... Very frustrating! HELP!

Answer
You would need to add a second soundcard. Most computers have only one sound card or subsystem, and all sounds have to go through that. Windows will pass all sound through the one device.

Does screen size affect computer performance or is it just resolution that does this?

Im planning on buying a tv to replace my 22" 1080p computer screen, this tv will be used for xbox gaming, pc gaming and TV.
My question is; if i decide to get a (just an example) 27" 1080p TV will my computer slow down whilst playing games?

TL;DR: Does screen size affect computer performance or is it just resolution

Answer
Just the resolution.

The computer uses absolutely the same amount of computing power to drive a 70" HDTV at 1920x1080 resolution as a 21" 1920x1080 desktop monitor. Both displays have 2,073,600 pixels that need to be processed.

If your computer can run stuff decently on a 1920x1080 desktop monitor, it will run it exactly the same way on a big-screen 1920x1080 HDTV.

Go for it!

how do I upgrade older computer to media center pc?

geri4gears

I have a 3 year old dell and I want to add components to make it a media center pc. I want to use my tv as a monitor, record a few shows. Possibly play a pc game.
Do I need to purchase microsoft media center software or will software come with the video cards?
In addition I would like to use my tv as a monitor.

Answer
The MCE interface is excellent for TV watching and recording. If you're willing to live with the menus that come with TV tuners, then you don't have to install MCE. MCE is only available as an OEM disc. Last time I checked, Newegg had it for around $100. I suggest that you try to evaluate the TV listings and menus that are provided with the tuner cards when selecting the card you want to use. Assuming you want to do time shift recording, you'll want to make sure your card comes with an IR blaster to control your STB, unless you're going to use an antenna. If you're going to use an STB for cable or sat, you'll want an NTSC tuner. If you're using an antenna, you'll want an ATSC tuner. You'll also want at least a 500GB drive. TV files are big. If you want to hook-up your computer to your TV, then you may have to add a video card with an HDMI or DVI output. Otherwise, you can use your VGA output.
