How do i use my PC monitor as a tv for playing xbox 360 games?

Kris Davie

So i was hoping to be able to use my RGB PC monitor. But obviously i need some sort of special adapter. I think ive seen one before anyway. So can someone specify what adapter or lead of whatever it is i need to play xbox 360 games from my console using my monitor like you would for a TV.

Answer
I'd recommend the 360 to VGA cable sold at http://www.geekquipment.com/video-game-cables.html

I've been using it for a while to play my 360 on my monitor; It's always worked really well for me.

Can you use your Tv as a monitor for your gaming computer?

I've heard from many different sources that you can but there's more lag unless you have a powerful enough Pc, but then I hear there's no difference no matter what. In case it does have to do with specs here is my system.

Here are the specs.
Processor: AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 4.0GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6100WMGUSBX
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7850 Graphics Card
Eyefinity, DirectX11 Support
1X HDMI, 2X DVi, 2X Display port Available
15% Overclock Available if desired
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0GB/s3.5
32Mb Cache
Operating System: Windows 7
RAM: Skill Ripjaws X Series 12gb 240-Pin DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 128000) Desktop Memory
CAS 9 Latency
Equipped with Advanced Aluminum Heat-Dispersing Shield

I'm planning on upgrading soon. So you could also give me some tips on what to upgrade. My price range is around 500$

Answer
The TV is pretty much a gigantic monitor, assuming you have a standard 1080p TV (no 4K or anything), you connect your PC to it.

Think about it, a PS3 or XBOX 360 doesn't have TV size requirements, meaning size of the TV doesn't affect performance.

I wouldn't recommend it though, because using the keyboard and mouse on a normal coffee table is very uncomfortable. It feels like typing on a desk while standing up.

If you don't know what I mean, try to type a paragraph while standing up.

For $500, you could

1. Upgrade your processor to something like a FX 8350 (sorry if I'm wrong, I'm not too sure about AMD sockets).

2. Get a better graphics card, such as a 7970 GHz edition or GTX 770

3. Of course SSD.

Other uses for $500

1. Gaming peripherals (mice, keyboards, headsets etc)

2. More monitors (Tri-monitor set-up since you can use Eyefinity)

3. Software (GAMES!!!)

I am going to build a pc with an sli or crossfire compatible motherboard and 2 sli or crossfire video cards. I will also be getting a second monitor (tv with pc input). How can i play a game on one monitor, and work on making games on another monitor with maya? Oh, and is it possible to work both tvs in full hd?

Answer
sadly the idea of crossfire and SLI isn't what you think from what I understand

SLI and crossfire you use one of the video cards plugs not the 2nd ones the crossfire uses the GPU and ram from the 2nd card to boost the power of the first so ya get better performance

if you want 2 or 3 monitors cards like the 5750 ATI are made to use 3 monitors on the same card and with more than one monitor at a time I believe all you get is either extended desktop so both combine into one desktop don't think ya can do different stuff on the 2nd to the first

Would using an old Sony TV as a desktop monitor work?

GabbyGal

I was looking into how to work Television sets as monitors for my PC games and found that my 50 inch 10 year old projection screen Sony TV has an S-Video cable input. I was wondering if I hooked up a desktop with an adapter if it would actually work? If not, would there be any alternative to use my old clunky TV as a monitor? It does have the Red, White, and Yellow wire inputs along with many other cable inputs.

Answer
Hi,

Yes, that should work OK but you won't be able to use a high resolution as your tv won't support it.

Also you will need a separate output from your sound card .to a sound system or to the sound input on the tv.

A good gaming monitor for someone on a budget?

Carson

I need a gaming monitor and I have found an excellent 'BenQ' monitor. However, it was out of my budget, around $300. My desk isn't the biggest so it would be nice if it is smaller. The price range im hoping to get one for is around $150, if they have a decent gaming one for that price. Thank you!

Answer
I use Sony Playstation 3D display. I play PS3 and my pc games on it all the time. It's also good for watching movies. It also works with Cable TV. It comes with 3D glasses and a ps3 game. Not sure if that's what you're looking for. It's a 24" display with full HD and I think that the price is around 200 or so. I got it last year on a sale for 100 and I like it. If you don't have a ps3, you could sell the game and glasses. Hope I helped

Can i turn off my laptop screen while using a TV as a external monitor?

Can i have my laptop screen turned off/blank (ie: just a plain black screen) while using my tv as an external monitor? Because when i connect my laptop to my PC and change my resolution to my tvs resolution and watch a video/play a game, the graphics on my Laptop glitch out a bit and flicker and it gets pretty annoying.

Answer
Yes theres a key combination to do it the FN key and on mine a Toshiba its F5 on yours it may be another F key.
There are three modes:
Monitor only
Monitor and external screen
External screen only

just press the two keys till you get the combination you desire and again to get back.

Can a TV be used as a monitor for a gaming desktop?

Matt

I have a Samsung 52" HD TV and want to get into PC gaming but I'm on a budget. I don't want to waste $100+ on a Monitor If I don't need to. So anyway, can I use the TV to play desktop games.

Answer
If it has an HDMI port in the back then yes it can also be used as a monitor. If it doesn't then no you can't. If it's a relatively new tv then I should think it capable since most tv's are made with the proper ports now to enable computer hook up.
