What are all of the hardware components needed to create your own gaming computer and witch ones do you recommend

I have built my own pc a few time from scratch. Some parts must be carfully picked, like a processor and mother board, the socket type must match. But here's a list of basic componets.

Case/tower
Motherboard - must fit case
Processor - must fit motherboard
Power supply - case/MB
Hard drive
Ram/memory
Video card
Optical drives - cd/dvd, floppy
Heat sinks and fans - some will come with tower

Most cables should come with the parts.

How would i go about building a gaming computer?

Q. WARNING: This may have alot of detail.
Ok so im 16 and very much into gaming.
I dont know anything about computer hardware but would like to learn. Im only 16 so im no rich kid fully loaded, but my mum may help towards paying for it.

My main question here is: how much would a decent computer cost to build or get build so i can play these games- GTA V, Minecraft and some other new games that come out in the future.
I also wanna be able to play minecraft with no lag with all settings cranked up to the highest.

Would i be able to do this sort of thing for $1k?.
Sorry if this is asking to much im just completely out of what things cost and what i need and stuff.

You need lots of memory.. nice graphics card and a nice cpu with at least dual core. The more cores the better.
