This summer I plan on building my own gaming PC and assembling it at home because it is cheaper and I like to customize things myself. It is an 850 dollar computer but the specs are exceptional. For the motherboard and processor, I am following a YouTube tutorial. In the YouTube video it says only 500 watts of power are needed, but in the comment section somebody (who was picked for best answer) claims that you actually need at least 630. I am planning on getting a 750 watt battery anyways, but if I don't need to, I'll try and get something cheaper. So how much power will I need based on this setup:

Processor:
Intel Core i5-3470 Quad-Core Processor 3.2 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155 - BX80637I53470 â ($188.79)

Answer
500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7850/Pages/radeon-7850.aspx#2

Thus, for a system with a single HD7850, a good branded 600W PSU is the ideal one to get and since your mobo does not support crossfire, then that 750W is too much for that build since Xfire is already not possible.

BTW, for Xfire, amd recommends 600W minimum, thus 700W is the ideal one to have (just an added info).

What type of gaming computer should i get?

Justin

I play mostly MMORPGS and i can never run them the way i want because i never have the right setup
im currently playing SWTOR and i want to know what specs should my new coputer have to run the game on the absolute higest settings without any lag ?

Answer
Do you have a budget constraint? We could recommend some pretty high end components but that would be useless unless you have a fairly unlimited budget. A desktop system for about $1000 (if you already have the monitor) should be able to handle most current games on moderate to high settings. If you are looking for highest settings on all games though, you'll probably need a system in the $1600+ range.

I'd start with looking for a system that has the following minimum requirements:

i5-2500 CPU
4-6 GB of RAM
GPU - See the first link below and pick something up near the top 5 or so tiers that is in your budget
600W or higher PSU
A crossfire or SLI capable motherboard

Whats the difference between ATI Radeon⢠HD 5870 Graphics and the eyefinity 6 version?

I want to run 3 monitors on one pc using one graphics card, the ATI Radeon⢠HD 5870 Graphics seems like it will do it, but will it run smoothly with that graphics card?? all other pc specs high i7, 8gb ram etc.

Also whats the difference between the 5870 and the 5870 eyefinity 6 version?

Answer
The "plain" 5870 has 1 GB of memory and will support 3 outputs (one of which must use the DisplayPort)

The Eyefinity 6 has 2 GB of memory and can support up to 6 monitors (all DisplayPort connections)

For a 3 monitor setup, there's little reason to buy the Eyefinity version.

PS. If you're looking to game with those 3 monitors, then the 5870 is a good choice. If you just need additional desktop area, a much cheaper 5000 series Radeon will handle the task.

Trying to learn more about computers and hardware for gaming?

Ben

I'm looking into gettin a new computer but I don't really know anything about them. Like... Literally nothing... I've always just played games on consoles but its getting old. I started playing PC games mostly rts at my friends, and no console games compare to PC.
Anyways I've been reading some articles on building your own pc "for beginners". If those are for beginners idk wtf to call my level of knowledge lmao.
Lets assume i know as much about computers as a newborn. Anybody know where I can begin on building a PC?

Answer
1) http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=build+a+pc&oq=build+a+pc&gs_l=youtube.3..0l10.2127.5676.0.6393.10.9.0.1.1.0.109.832.7j2.9.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.F0JwLXkNjOs
2) Look inside a finished pc, and take digital photographs of connections.
3) http://pcpartpicker.com/
4) Look through Yahoo Q+A. I keep an open history, see what questions are worth reading answers and seeing the references and solutions. For now, I am #9 in the US in Desktops, easy to see mine. See if anyone else has history of Q+A to browse through.
5) What needs to be included in an overall total cost? Monitor? Keyboard? PC itself? Cables?
Decide the importance of factors:
Performance for the dollar spent?
Upgradability?
Reliability and stability?
These things fight each other giving different build part sets depending on the importance of each at a fixed spend amount.
6) Post a permalink of a build you came up with on paper at pcpartpicker, and state your country and city/state, amount of money available as a goal and whether any room to spend more, and about the goals you have in #5, and the games you have in mind, because each game has differing needs of cpu, GPU, ram.

Recognize that building a PC if done right is 90% research, 1% ordering and accepting delivery of parts, and 4% build and setup. And I may be a little low on the research in this estimate. Measure a dozen times, then cut once.
Adding: The right way to buy a pc, or have one built for you at iBuypower or Cyberpowerpc or others is almost the same. Start at #3 above pcpartpicker, to be able to judge what it cost for them to make it, and each part on the list is a skill and knowledge base of good from bad. Anyone can build a pc, it is much harder to build the best pc for you personally at a fixed amount of spend.
Components compatibility is extremely important. That is what you would be learning along with what makes high gaming performance.
