Need a gaming monitor...on a budget!?

I don't have the cash to shell out $500+ for a nice BenQ that MLG is using now...but i want something with (in order of importance):

1. VERY LITTLE INPUT LAG
2 (tie). Decent refresh rate (60hz+) and decent response time (5ms or lower)
3. Decent resolution (picture quality)...If I'm on a 1080p-capable monitor at a LAN, i've been told to play at 720p to keep the input lag really low, and everything really smooth. But idk if I would still be ok playing on 720p if that's what the thing maxes out at...btw the only inputs i need it to have are VGA and HDMI, anything else is a bonus. It doesn't even need speakers (I have a headset and I won't be watching tv on it at all).

Tips? I am playing on my tube tv right now because the input lag is virtually non-existent...but i want something with moderately better picture quality, with similar input lag. Hopefully for around $150 or less?
Ah yes, and viewing angle is meaningless to me. I'll be playing on it, and will be the only one viewing it like 99.9% of the time, so idk if the person next to me can see it clearly. I'm a competitor first!

Answer
What they said about monitors at your LAN is pure bullshit, you won't run into any input lag problems unless your computer is too weak to run the games at 60 fps.

As for your question, the Asus VE228H is a brilliant monitor, cheap, kicks ass, beats some 300 dollar monitors I have used.

Which monitor should I buy?

K.S. John

I want to buy a new monitor for gaming and just everyday usage so it was either the Asus VS247H-P 23.6-Inch or the BenQ RL2455HM. I might want to get into MLG gaming too. I know the response time diff is by 1 ms and that the Asus is an LCD while the BenQ is LED. I dont know if that really matters, but the Asus comes with a 3 year warranty while the BenQ comes with just 1 year. The Asus is also cheaper, but I want to get the best for what I pay for. I am not just preferring those two any other suggestion would be nice. I am kinda leaning towards the BenQ just because it has more connectors in the back.
Well I have an Elgato game capture card, but I dont know what I will need that extra HDMI for. I might dual monitor, but I'm not sure.
My youtube Channel is http://www.youtube.com/TheNhuansta

Answer
there is no set standard for monitors, so the 1ms response time difference is irrelevant. take the benq for the additional hdmi port.

1680x1050 monitor vs 1920x 1080 monitor for PC gaming?

Ahmed S.

I wan't to buy a 20-24 inch monitor with either a resolution of 1680x1050 or 1920x1080. What would be the difference in image quality between the two and the difference in performance when set to those resolutions for a game like battlefield 3? The specs are: 8gb ram, ati 5750 1gb, amd phenom x6 1035t

Also there is the price difference to consider...

Answer
The difference is workspace. You get more space out of 1920X1080 plus the fact thats HD resolution (1080P) The crispness of the image will depend on the monitor you select, but most new, well 90% of them are 1920x1080. Your specs are fine for games to run at 1920X1080 Though some new ones like BF3 will need to be lowered (not maxed) I would look into the ASUS VH236H or VH238H (Difference is LED vs LCD) as they are used in MLG & Mny other pro gaming circuits & arent very expensive.

Pre-built Gaming PC Spec help?

ZomboyZed

I'm relatively new to gaming PC and came up with this iBuyPower build for around $2300. The gaming PC is the Chimera 4-MLG. I'm looking for a PC that can run games such as Crysis 2 on ultra with 60+ frames per second. I'd love to get a few opinions on it.
A few questions as well:

1.) Will the i5 suffice for high end gaming or should I get an i7 instead?
2.) For video cards, how much better does the GTX 680 do against the GTX 670?
3.) For either of the video cards, 2gb or 4gb? I heard 4gb was a bit overkill, but i'm considering the fact that this may not be the case in the next 2-3 years.

Here are the specifications:

Answer
Waste of money. If you can "build" it on one of these sites then you can go out and pick the parts yourself and build it

Don't listen to that idiot, a i7 will perform no better then a i5 when it comes to gaming
It's stupid getting a SSD for a data drive especially since it's only 120GB
Since this is for gaming you don't need a multi-reader
You can save money by not getting the SuperClocked 680
Unless you have wireless in your home, then you won't need the wireless USB adapter
You don't need Windows 7 Ultimate, Home will do just fine
Unless you're running multiple monitors or a hi-res monitor then 2GB graphics card will do just fine at 1080p or lower
The 670 is pretty much right up there with the 680 but for a $100 cheaper price tag

You're spending $2,300 and you're not even getting the top CPU and only 1 video card

What is the best resoloution to play games on, Crysis 2 etc?

And can you give me examples of monitors that will have that resoloution capability?

I have a GTX 460 1GB, but am looking to upgrade to either a better Geforce or a HD Radeon, I have a budget of around £400 for both things combined

Answer
the ASUS VH236H or VH238H are very good choices & MLG Certified monitors (Also used in SF tournys) the 238H is just the LED based variant of the 236, Both are very good at color reproductions & are now not very espensive, you should be able to snag one for 170 at least.

If you do not care about forcing SSAO on NVIDIA cards (special more "realistic" shading methods only nvidia cards can force into games, ATI can do it aswell but the Vision panel doesnt have an option to force it) ATI would be the better choice as they are superior when it comes to anisotropics & refining models to nuke the jagged edges... You should be able to pickup a 6970 or 6950 with the remaining amount, or if you have enough an EVGA 460 GTX 2WIN Edition which performs nearly on par with a GTX 580. (It is Two 460 GTX on ONE card, SLId on one PCB with a very high Bandwidth makes it awesome)

What monitor is the best monitor for Competitive Gaming?

LaxGuy711

I am trying to get into competitive gaming, and am actuAlly really good. I was just wondering what tv or monitor is best to enhance gameplay. I was looking at the BenQ monitors cause i know they use those ones in championships and stuff, but are really expensive. I am into more of the FPS games such as the Call of Duty series mainly. The BenQ that I was looking at was around $419 I believe. Basically I'm just asking for your thought and opinion on this. Is it worth it ? Thanks

Answer
The Asus VS239H is a great monitor, as is the VH236H (which I have for gaming). Also, the BenQ monitor MLG uses isn't $400: http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Official-Monitor-RL2455HM-24-Inch/dp/B007HSKSMI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1370787766&sr=1-1&keywords=benq+mlg

just for gaming and maybe a few movies nothing major

Answer
I'd get an asus VH236H monitor for gaming. HDMI for Xbox or PS3 and DVI for your computer. It's only about 160$ and it was the official MLG monitor last year.
