Answer
Checkout Lenovo Ideapad Y570 08626AU 15.6-Inch Laptop
http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-08626AU-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B006M9ZXD2/ref=sr_1_35?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1334975032&sr=1-35
Specs:
- Intel Core i7 2670QM Processor
- 8GB RAM
- 1TB Hard Drive
- NVIDIA Geforce GT555M Discrete Graphics card
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Open http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-555M.41933.0.html
and scroll down to 'Game Benchmarks'. You can see it can play Skyrim, MW3, Battlefield 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Need for Speed Shift, Dirt 3, etc.

How do you tell if a graphics card is good by it's name?

Simple question, looking for a gaming laptop under 1000 and a graphics card is my first priority. If you know of any good laptops too post them here

Thanks
I don't necessarily "need" one, but my current laptop is also not at my desk all day either. It is also very nice on trips and friends' houses.

Well to save time and space i just answered similar question a few days ago

(typoed 8-9=high end, not 7-8, but i guess nvidia 7-8=high end, for amd its 8-9)

For your price range look for:

core i7 3xxx Qm (3rd generation core i7)
8GB of ram (more doesnt really help at all)
nvidia GT 650m grahics card (the gddr5 version is equal in performance to the gtx560m)

and really at this price point you either want a 1600x900 or 1920x1080 resolution screen.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215410 (cheaper, 17.3", 1600x900 resolution, GDDR3 GT650m, only 5400rpm hdd, 7.05 lbs)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152339 (amazing gaming laptop for the price. 1920x1080, 15.6", GDDR5 GT650m, 750GB 7200rpm hdd, nice keyboard, speakers, looks awesome only 5.28 lbs.) But being light, might also make it more fragile, so dropping it like a tard may cause more damage the heavier ones.

There is a $100 mail in rebate on that too.

EDIT: @alienware
you are out of your mind if you think they make the best gaming computers...

its $1100
and compared to msi above

-dual core i5, compared to quad core i7
-500GB hdd instead of 750
-but the biggest downfall of all..... 1366x768 resolution screen... eeewwwww....

sacrifice all that to get a shiny glowing keyboard. great idea!

Does anyone know of a good gaming laptop?

I am looking for a cheepish gaming laptop around the £800-£900 under a £1000 hopefully, that can play games like: Skyrim, maybe the call of duty's. It would be great if it can play Minecraft at maximum graphics/ render distance. If you know of any that would be great, even a pc that is under £1000 that can play good games. Thanks all answers are appreciated!

Answer
The "Asus G75" series gaming laptops are pretty good, get the ones that cost around $1,200.

It should be able to run Minecraft fine. I paid $2,000 for my computer, it can run every game fine, but Minecraft still has issues XD Be sure to get the mod "Optifine"

Also, DON'T BUY AN ALIENWARE! They are EXTREMELY overpriced.

What type of gaming computer would be best for me?

The Worm

*Bear with me because I know nothing about this stuff*

Just for light gaming. I need to be able to run NBA 2K, Sims 3, Skyrim, GTA (All with mods), and maybe Kerbal Space Program.

My price range is probably under $1000.

My main question is: What type of computer fits me?

I would prefer a gaming laptop over a desktop for sure, but what are the cons of a laptop in my price range?

Additional things to note is that I need to be able to plug an x-box controller into the computer (no idea if that applies for all pc's)

Another question I have is: Will I constantly have to perform "updates" to my computer, laptop or desktop? Or are they optional? If they are mandatory how much would that cost? (Again if i'm way off it's because I know nothing about this)

My last question isn't as important, but are PC's like this reliable for surfing the web, going on youtube, doing hw? (Who cares about HW anyway when you have games)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Understand that this stuff is all new to me, so a detailed explanation would be awesome.

I'll be sure to give best answer if anyone could really help me

I am wondering what is more cheaper, a gaming laptop or a gaming desktop. To be more specific, which would I gain more power?
I am looking for something under $1000 that can run games like starcraft 2 on ultra settings. Thanks.
p.s. Do gaming computers make great "work or everyday use" computers?

What part of a computer determines the graphics?

Q. I'm looking into getting a good gaming computer but when i'm looking at the information on the computer, I don't know what part determines how good the gaming will turn out like graphics/lag

please help :) also if anyone knows a good gaming laptop under $1000 i'd appreciate some suggestions

Answer
For a gaming computer, most of the money should go into the graphics card. The rest of the system should be "just enough" to support the graphics card.

For a real gaming computer though, it really needs to be custom made. There's no such thing as a "real" gaming computer from a store; even from Alienware which just overprices stuff to an unreasonable extent and pushes poor quality.

It would be best to recruit your local computer store to build it for you for a fee; they can suggest parts based on your budget. Just make sure you get it off of Amazon so you can get a refund if anything is broke or doesn't work.

Also important is to take each item that they recommend, look it up, and read the reviews of it yourself. Check for any known issues, GL.
