how to run three monitors as one desktop?

msemillo

what do i need to run three monitors as one desktop?

Answer
The best way is with the new ATI Radeon HD5000-series of video cards that are equipped with DisplayPort.

The ATI HD5000s are the first consumer-grade GPUs to offer triple monitor support. ALL consumer-grade single-GPU cards before the HD5000s can only support two monitors max apiece.

All you need is an open PCIExpress 16x slot in your computer, an HD5000-series card like the HD5750 (currently the best-bang-for-the-buck 3-monitor card), and at least one monitor equipped with a DisplayPort jack (the other two can be DVI).

nVidia also came out with triple monitor cards a few weeks ago-- The GTX400-series. I like ATI's Eyefinity implementation better though, since there are games written to use Eyefinity to span the game screen over three monitors.

I wouldn't bother with two-video-card setups for triple monitors-- Why go to the expense of buying a Crossfire/SLI motherboard and two cards when just one $130 HD5750 will do for triple monitors? One card driving 3 monitors also works more seamlessly.

Hope this helps.

3 monitors gaming.. Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT?

777777

i have a quick question about graphic card my computer is top of the line so far
i was wondering if my Graphic card will be able to use 3 monitors at the same time something like this in the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br8Fa2i4KkA - i have Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT im running 2 monitors so far - im planning to get a other monitor an was wondering if mines is able to do something like that in the video - with out spending more money on a eyefinity
Intel core i7 CPU -267Ghz
with Ram DDR3 3.00 GB
64bit - window 7
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT 1GB GDDR3

Answer
Nope. You can't span a game over three monitors using 9800GTs. nVidia simply has no provisions for that built into the 9800 GPU.

The games must be written to support spanning over three monitors, and right now the only way to do that is through ATI Eyefinity, so you must have an Eyefinity video card as well in order to do that. Oh, and the third monitor must be connected to the ATI Eyefinity video card's DisplayPort jack.

List of games that support screen spanning over three monitors: http://sites.amd.com/us/underground/products/eyefinity/Pages/supported-software.aspx

Your only option if you want to run Eyefinity-capable games that can span over three screens is to get an ATI Radeon HD5000-series card and a third monitor with DisplayPort.

Your 9800GT is nowhere near "top of the line." It's 3 years old, ancient by today's standards. Even the midrange $130 Eyefinity-capable Radeon HD5750 can beat the crap out of your 9800GT.

What type of computer do I need to buy intially to hook up 3 monitors eventually?

I want to replace my old XP computer. I intend to hook up two monitors right at the start. I know that most new computers have a VGA and a DMI hook up in them. Eventually I want three monitors. So I want to make sure I buy the right computer to support 3 monitors.

Answer
ones with graphics card that have like 5 ports for display output (DVI, VGAs,, DisplayPort and HDMI)
well, 5 output ports are common in today's desktop anyway. Pretty sure you can hook up more monitors and use extended desktop mode easily.

Been there, done that. I got a desktop with HD6870 card, connected to two monitors. but things can get pretty hot, i don't know why.
usually single monitor idles at 48°C. With dual monitor, it goes up to 59°C when idle. Gaming would probably burn it up. Get a good cooling solution, maybe. Give it a try.

What's the least expensive way to give your computer the capabilities to display on 3 monitors?

I've got a fast computer with a few free slots, right now I've got a video card that will display on 2 monitors, but I want to upgrade to three, whats the most cost effective way to do this?

Answer
The most seamless way to run triple monitors right now is with a video card with native triple-monitor support.

That would be one of the Displayport-equipped versions of the new ATI Radeon HD5000-series cards.

A card like the HD5770 can accept two DVI monitors and one DisplayPort monitor and run all three displays independently (display different things on all three screens). You can also run one primary desktop and two extended desktops, or span one screen over the three displays in Eyefinity mode on certain games that are written to support it.

I run a triple-monitor Eyefinity array on my system, using one single HD5870 and three Dell U2410 monitors (which is equipped with DisplayPort).

This is far more cost-effective than buying an SLI/Crossfire motherboard, two video cards, and one of those ridiculous thousand-watt SLI-ready power supplies just to run one more monitor.

I am building a new computer the gpu i am getting is a gtx 780 my questions is can i have one monitor running thru hdmi. And have a dvi to 2 female vga with all three monitors running at the same time. The hdmi will be for gaming while the other two will be for music and internet explorer to pull up stuff when im stuck in the game and need help.??

Answer
GTX 780 supports 3 monitors, but not with VGA unless you try DisplayPort adapters. DVI is digital, VGA is analog.
"Only one of these video cards is necessary to drive triple-displays and NVIDIA 3D-Vision Surround functionality, when using both DL-DVI and either the HDMI or DP connection for third output." http://archive.benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1144&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=1
There is a question about 3 displays--Surround tech links all three together into a triple wide single image. You want three images, all for different functions.

Performance drop when not connected to a monitor for my laptop?

Jarrod

Dell XPS 17
Nvidia 630M

Hi guys whenever I seem to have my minute connected to my laptop I never have a problem playing games and whatnot if my comp can handle it. But whenever I disconnect it I get near game breaking performance decreases. For example I will play minecraft with it connected at good settings and when I disconnect it I have to put everything to low in order for it to be playable. What is going on here this doesn't make much sense :/

Answer

Your laptop has two video system chipsets:
Internal to the Intel I7 or I5 CPU is a GPU with somewhat decreased video capabilities. It runs the LCD panel attached to the KB and chassis or the DisplayPort.
On the MB is an Nvidia 630M with advanced video capabilities. It runs the DisplayPort.
The games sense which video system is used to display it, so the delivery of graphics is adjusted to best suit that video system. There may be an override setting to adjust for better results on the laptop's panel.

I have a ATI Sapphire 6970 graphics card and a 23" LED LG monitor right now. I was thinking of buying two additional monitors and running eyefinity. I am new to this and need some information.
Also do you know what games can run in eyefinity (mostly want to know if world of warcraft and dragon age II will). Thank you.

Answer
http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-software.aspx

heres a list of the supported games.

both those games are supported.

for eyefinity two of your monitors can be hooked up to the dvi or hdmi ports on your 6970. the other has to be hooked up to the mini displayport, if its a native minidisplayport, or you need an active adapter to connect it.

How do use 3 monitors on one computer?

Justin

I want to be able to drag things into the other monitors, with my mouse floating through all 3 as if it were a single screen.

How do I do this?
I have windows XP

Answer
The easiest way to drive three monitors independently is with a video card that supports three monitors, like one of the DisplayPort-equipped ATI Radeon HD5000-series of cards.

I have a Radeon HD5870, and I am running a triple monitor setup on it. The third monitor is required to have a DisplayPort jack for that to work though. (I got 2 DVI and 1 DisplayPort monitor).

The middle monitor is my main desktop, with the two side monitors as extended desktops. For games that support Eyefinity, I can also span the game screen over all three monitors.

Not sure if ATI still offers XP support for newer cards like the HD5000 series though.
