Are IPS monitors recommended for gaming?

RationalFe

I'm thinking about selling my Viewsonic LED and getting and IPS LED monitor.

Answer
Actually, it really really don't show much difference. I am using both and don't see much different when playing games. You won't really notice stuff like ghosting and such with LCD nowadays. When you are really playing, you will be focusing more on the games rather than the details.

Anyway, up to you actually. If you have the cash then go ahead, else just save it for something else.
Save the planet, less you buy, longer the earth will live.

Is this a good gaming monitor?

Acer V223-WBD 22" Widescreen TFT LCD Monitor
It stuck out to me because of it's excellent price. The 19 inch version of it got good reviews. I don't want to order it and find out it doesn't do well with games though. Anyone who owns this monitor or has any knowledge on the subject I would appreciate your input. I plan on playing some first person shooters on it and possible World of Warcraft.

Answer
Unless you don't care about color reproduction - yes, this is ok.
If you want to get better color reproduction, never buy a TN panel.

----
Summary of LCD Panel Technology
S-IPS panels are generally considered the best all around panel type, but they are more expensive and very few are made. High end, expensive.
S-PVA/MVA panels offer better color reproduction and viewing angles than TN panels, have slightly worse response times than TN or S-IPS, offer the best contrast ratios, may suffer from color shifting or input lag and have higher availability than S-IPS panels. Mid range, fair price.
TN panels are very cheap and have the fastest response times, but suffer from inferior color reproduction, contrast ratios and viewing angles. Low end, inexpensive.

Sad Wolver

I'm in the market for a new monitor, money is not an issue, I'm looking for a monitor with great color accuracy but enough juice and speed to play games decently. I do a lot of graphic design, photo editing, video editing, 3d render type work but at the end of the day I also love to play games on my PC whenever I get the chance. Is there something that caters to both IPS and TN?? I'm not too hardcore about ghosting problems but I know obvious ghosting when I see one.

Thanks!

Answer
What you are looking for is a good "all round" solution.
Have a look at Eizo fs2333, probably is the best "non tn" monitor for gaming and with features that make it a good choice in other areas of use.

What is the best 23 or 24 inch monitor for gaming?

Flameboy50

I am going to be building a high end gaming PC with a GTX 580 graphics card so what is the best 23 or 24 inch monitor. I will probably be playing all types of games like rpg's, first person shooters and the list goes on...(and no I do not want to use multiple monitors)

Thanks!

Answer
Dear! Dell has made some outstanding monitors over the years and they continue this trend with the UltraSharp U2410. Previous 24-inch models used a VA based panel, but the new U2410 has moved over to the IPS that provides a higher level of color and improved viewing angles.

What is a good monitor resolution for PC gaming?

..

Also, how low of a resolution would you say is not a good resolution for gaming?

Answer
Late 1990s and early 2000s 4:3 ratio @ 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 768 etc.. Late 2000s 16:9 ratio @ 1280 x 720 ( 720p) or 1920 x 1080 ( 1080p). You hear/see more about 16:10 ratos these days don't know how good they will be for gaming Example 16:10 = 1680 x 1050, or 1920 x 1200. LCD monitors will have a Native Resolution where the picture will be the best at that resolution, not all screens have the same native resolution. For gaming CRTs are known for 0 ms response times no lag, but are being discontinued, bulky heavy. For serious gaming LCDs with TN panels with 2ms or lower response times are used now. IPS and VA panels are much better for colors but have higher response times more gaming lag, more in price. it is said that your eyes can see 15360 x 8640 the best (8640p) and 300 pixels per inch is the most the eye can see, so in the future these are resolutions we will most likely see. The best resolution for gaming now most likely 1920 x 1080 ( 1080p) 16:9 ratio.

What is the best monitor on the market for FPS gaming?

Parker

I am looking for a new monitor for my PC Gaming rig. I only play FPS games.

What is "THE BEST" monitor on the market at the moment for gaming that will deliver the maximum frame rate? (My computer can play games over 100fps, but I just need a monitor that can deliver more than 60fps for me to enjoy it to the max)

Anyone know of the best?

Answer
welll.. define "The Best"

by my standards (and your not gonna like this) the BEST display would be:
NEC PA301W 30" IPS 2560x1600 monitor. for the best experiences you'l need 3 of them.
99% perfect color reproduction
excellent contract
14 bit 3D color dictionary (some 1.3 billion colors)
it supports 3D display
industry standard for graphics, video, and game designers.
its um, $2300 each, and 3 of them would be... $6900. and since its obviously extremely valuable, shipping would be like $400 ($200 to ship + $200 in insurance)

you'll need dual-link DVI -out or you'll have trouble enjoying this top-quality monitor.
this is as close as you can get to an Apple computer's display, which is the best there is.

MaximumPC's Dream Machine 2011 utilized 3 of the best monitors in the world.
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/dream_machine_2011_how_we_created_best_pc_ever
they also had three nVidia GTX 580's to back i up, I seriously doubt anything less can actually handle so many pixels. at 4800x2560 most graphics cards will be struggling to produce even 5 FPS.
