Finally got tired of the garbage games coming out on the PS3. I am now looking into replacing it with a gaming PC with equal or greater capabilities. I don't need a supercomputer to play Battlefield 3 on its maximum settings, however I would like to be able to play some of the more up-to-date titles.

If someone could give me links to specific computers that would be affordable and be able to match the PS3. Or link me to specific parts that are equivalent to or greater than the PS3's, I would be most greatful. Thanks.

Answer
If you simply want to replicate the PS3, you might shell about a couple of hundred dollars. Take note that this does not include a monitor, a keyboard, mouse, and an operating system.

However, I strongly advise you in building that gaming system. Such rig wont handle current and future PC games.

A decent gaming PC might cost 400 dollars if you build it (this includes extra peripherals like the Operating System and monitor). If youre buying a pre-built, expect to pay more. Upgrading your current PC's cost depends on how old your system is.

Yes, it would be expensive. The advantages, of course, of getting a gaming PC is it's multi-tasking flexibility.

HOWEVER, if you already have a computer and a gaming console, I recommend you stick with the PS3 for some time if youre not willing to shell that cash.

What computer do you recommend for gaming?

I need to decide what type of computer I want to buy, but I don't know much about computers. I use a Macbook right now, and it has lasted a long time but it is finally dying. For the next one, it needs to be able to handle a lot of gaming (I heard PCs are better for gaming), internet use, and Microsoft Office. I'd also want one that I could plug an xbox controller to. What brands do you like? What other accessories do you recommend (like graphics cards)? What else do I need to take into consideration when choosing my next computer? I like the mobility of laptops, but do they have enough space to play games? Thanks.

Answer
1. Mac or PC?
A. PC. There's various reasons, but overall more software is compatable with PC, and not Mac.

2. Your Budget?
A. I'll go over a computer build of about $800, but you can change it if you have more/less to spend.

3. Inside the Computer. Processors.
A. The main thing to look for in a processor is it's Core's and speeds. 4 or 8 cores is highly ample to suit your needs, and anything above 3 Ghz is perfect.

4. Motherboards.
A. Make sure it's compatable with all other parts of the computer, and make sure it has all of the features you want. EX: USB 3 ports, etc.

5. Graphics Card.
A. If you're going into casual gaming, you could settle for a $60-80 graphics card. If you want to stream/multi-monitor, etc. Get something a little more expensive...

6. RAM.
A. You need at least 8 GB's of Ram for some big games. I have 16 in my computer. Get 4 GB sticks, and try to "Dual Channel" them. You can read more up on that on another website.

I hope that helps :).

ALSO. IF you want to plug in a controller, download "Xpadder" and run it in "compatability mode".

Hope that helps, good luck :)
