Are they really that much better 1080p monitors? I have a AMD Radeon 7970 Graphics card, will i see a huge difference by buying a 2560 monitor? Right now mine is 1080p. Im looking at the Dell U2711. Thanks!
Answer
Well they are certainly have a much higher resolution and are much bigger. That monitor is a 27'. If you are looking for a better gaming experience I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. That model, however, is a fairly low spec model. You have to also look at things like response time and output. It won't do 3D gaming for example as it's only 60hz refresh rate and it's response time is 6ms (milli seconds) which is fairly slow. The good monitors have 2ms response time and around 120mhz refresh rate. Having said that, if your 1080p is a fairly similar generic model then you are definitely buying an upgrade and your graphics card can definitely handle it.
Hope this helps :)

good gaming monitor with or w/o IPS?
Proxxey
budget 300$ (24"), give or take ...if worth it maybe 400$
i searched a lot and found :
BenQ BENQ XL2420T vs Asus VG248QE
they both seem amazing , but none has ips ...is there any other monitor as good as these ones with ips in this price range ?
Answer
IPS monitors are limited to 5ms GTG response time. They are better in viewing angles, but gamers are normally right in front of the screen. They are better as touch screen as they do not distort on touch, but gamers do not touch their screen. They are better in creating realistic colors, but gaming is all created and not natural people anyway.
There are interesting $400 IPS monitors that people import from South Korea not listed in the standard retailers.
Monoprice.com is importing a few. Here is their current import:

27" IPS-ZERO-G Slim Monitor WQHD 2560x1440 - Dual Link DVI, VGA
display panel made by LG. Maximum brightness level of 440cd/m², 5-dead-pixel warranty for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase. 6 millisecond typical gray-to-gray response time
80,000:1 maximum dynamic contrast ratio. You can google the internet about importing your own.
It cannot be stated that this is "better" at gaming than either of what you found. But, it is one to consider as it is very different.
Would not bring up a 1080p to compare as an IPS even in 27", but 2560x1440 is a tough one to decide. There are similar shown at Amazon.com and you actually are dealing with the South Korean companies. Through standard sellers and brands, they start at $554

The Asus is a faster refresh and response time than the Benq. These are the 3 with the faster refresh rate:

Won't tell you to get a 27" ultra HD IPS Panel, and it especially needs a high end graphics card to drive it, but it is your alternative direction, to be larger, higher definition, and IPS technology.
That gets into comparable thinking.
Adding: Nunya ID shows the same one at Monoprice.
Which do you believe is more important?
Responsiveness of control to the image and high frames per second for a smoother motion, more like professional gaming, or, the awesome image on the screen in a larger size and higher detail that will not "feel" as responsive in the controls. The Asus in gaming is higher fps for the system, and displayed at a higher fps. The Zero-G is limited to 60fps and often displays slower, and is not as fast in the native response to a controller, but is a bigger and higher clarity image.
