I intend to buy a new gaming computer, but I am sadly lacking the knowledge required to make a fully informed purchasing decision.

I have no idea what the 1st guy is talking about. This is a gaming computer, not a video editing one.


First off, you can save a bit of money and get the 2500k instead of the 2600k. Both are essentially the same, except the 2600k offers a feature called "hyperthreading" which essentially splits up the 4 cores into 8, giving you about a 20% boost in performance with applications that can actually use all 8 cores.

This is nice for servers, but 95% of games use 2 cores, and 99.9% use no more than 4. You can save money with the 2500k.


16gb of memory is not necessary. NO game uses more than 8gb, and most use lest than 4. the extra 8gb will never be used even if you're multitasking, so 16gb is waste unless you have a specific app that needs that much.


The hard drives are fine I guess. Personally, I would go with a single 120gb SSD and a single hard drive, but 2 should work fine in Raid 0. Just make sure you back up all your data every once in awhile.


Now for the most important part: the graphics card.
For $2500, you should'nt settle for 2 mere GTX 560s. While they will work well, 2 6950s or 6970s will give you much better performance.


And last off, don't make the mistake many make. A mere 1080p monitor or TV is not worthy of this system, it will never live up to it's full potential. Get either a high res display, like a 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 monitor, or get 3 1080p monitors for surround gaming. Otherwise, your whole system would be a waste, as a $1500 system would work at 1080p just as well.

Pointless overkill
Games are just now starting to use quad core so that 990x is a waste for gaming
Most games barely use 4GB of ram so 24GB for gaming is a waste
A SSD would be a better investment then the VelociRaptor
Unless you're planning on running 4 GTX580s that 1500w PSU is a waste
The Noctura i find to be just silly when you're spending $6,000 on a system with 1.6 of it just going to the CPU, spending that much money might as well go watercooled especially if you plan on overclocking
I don't see the point in getting a 27" monitor if the res is no higher then 1080p which most 22" monitors can do


This is nowhere near being the best possible rig for now and some of it is pointless for gaming

well garret, I will help you paraphrase your question since cheap and gaming computer are actually like oil and water, they cannot be mixed together.

What you want to know is the least expensive gaming PC that can max out BF3 on 1080p, am I correct???

well, The lowest card that can let you play BF3 on max settings on 1080p is the GTX 560 ti with an AVE FPS of 31.8:

I want to get the game Shogun 2 Total War that is coming up this March 15th 2011.

I can't see why not.
But it might have low fps when the image gets too overcrowded, by that I mean too much action.

You AMD Phenom II X6 is a 6-core monster-of-a-CPU. This kind of processor won't have any problems with any game up to date.

The other thing is GPU. ATI HD5750 is a good 1GB Dedicated Video Memory GPU, it can run any game up to date with maximum setting, but might get "laggy" when going over the limits.
From my point of view, in order to perfectly run a game such as Shogun 2, on highest settings, the best thing to have is a Dual GPU of 2GB total dedicated video memory. No problems with that peace of machine infront of you.

8GB DDR3 is more than enough.

1.5TB SATA HDD. 1.5TB - 20GB = 1.48TB left. Should do!

HD Audio 5.1. Well, this is more than enough because the game can run without any Sound Card at all.

Keyboard & Mouse. Well you got yourself a bargain!!!


Anyway if you are still interested what machine would run this game perfectly:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2nd Generation Processors, Intel Core i7 9xx High Performance Processors or Equivalent AMD Processors with at least 4 cores.
RAMS: 8GB DDR3 is enough.
HDD: 256GB RAID "0"

It's absolutely bollocks.
The recommended settings for Assasin's Creed Brotherhood CPU are Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2...both are 2.6GHz...I did not pass my one only because I have Intel i5, 2.53GHz in general, but what about Hyperthreading and Turbo Boost?
Also they don't seem to understand my GPU. Recommended requirements for the same game are 512MB of GPU, my one is 2GB, I've got a check mark there, and still failed, even tho my GPU is far more superior than the one in Recommended requirements.....

I think I'm going to play Diablo III when it comes out, where is a good computer to play it on, and how much will it cost? I know Diablo III isn't out yet, but I know it will need a lot of requirements because its a huge game.

Get at least a dual-core processor (quad-core recommended), with 3 GB RAM (4-6GB recommended), SSD for OS (40GB would suffice) and 500GB of HDD (1TB if you need and/or can afford), ATI 5770/5870 or nVidia GT275/285, 22" widescreen LCD monitor and a decent logitech keyboard/mouse. To run diablo 3, which you're not going to be until perhaps 3rd quarter of 2011, you'll require a robust PC, but not necessarily an expensive one. $850 should fetch you a good gaming PC, whereas top-of-the-line models will cost more.

Depends upon how many cores in processor, or if multi-threading, or if you have the speed and processing power to do a high frame rate with two games running.
Dual screens are easy. What is hard is separate keyboard and mouse inputs from two people. There might be a software solution. http://www.userful.com/products/downloads/free-2-user is one, but for Linux OS only. Don't know if the games you wish to run will work in that OS.
