can i build a gaming computer for under 500 dollars?

BrendaL

all i need is the tower, hardware, and os for under 500 dollars can you guys give me a build preferably for a nvidia gpu that later on can sli
i will be playing games like far cry 2 and team fortress 2

Answer
All you need is the tower, hardware and OS? So in other words, you have a mouse, keyboard and monitor and you're 13 or 14 years old. *sigh!* Well I'll try but I think you're full of BS. Also, you're not getting SLI, you're getting CrossfireX because you can't afford SLI. Deal with it.

WinXP Home SP2 - $95
AMD Athlon LE-1640 2.6GHz CPU - $40
MSI K9A2 CF-F Motherboard - $90
Sappfire Radeon HD 3870 - $85
Patriot PC6400 2GB RAM - $25
LG DVD-RW Drive - $25
Seagate 250GB HD - $45
PowerUp Black Gamer ATX Case w/450watt PS -$40
Cooler Master R4-L2R-20CR-GP Case Fan x 2 - $16

That comes to $461, it's the best I could do.

Under 500 dollars? I am fed up with this school computer. I want to pack it up into a box and forget it exists. It would be nice to be able to use proxies, gaming, email, and facebook again too. I only need a tower, I will use my school's monitor, but this tower is humming and driving me insane. Running slower than ever and has school blocks on it.
NEVER AGAIN.

Answer
For 500$ you could get a almost heavy duty gaming machine! IF you build one yourself, dont be scared its not hard at all.If you dont want to build one, just go to IBUYPOWER.com or CYBERPOWERPC.com. they're both great

PC BUILD:
AMD a-10 5800K @ 3.8 GHz (4.2Gz Turbo Boost) quad core *comes with Radeon HD 7660D* CPU
Radeon HD 6670 to crossfire with the 7660D above (graphics card)
ASRock FM2A75M-DGS FM2 AMD A75 (Motherboard)
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 (ram)
Seagate Barrucuda 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower case
CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS.
well, thats pretty much all you need for anything, you could play Battlefield 3 almost maxed out with this monster budget machine.
total (from newegg only) is only 464$!!! you could add a few Super-quiet additions to it if you want the PC running very quiet too, though ive hear the AMD APU's run quiet by themselves, well I hope this helped you!!!>: remember if you DONT wanna build, go to IBuyPower.com or CyberPowerPC.com, they're both great (the pc build is MUCH better for the money though ;)

What is a good gaming desktop build for under £500?

M4G1C B34N

I'm looking into building a desktop for under £500 but I am not familier with what is needed, I'm indending on playing Battlefield 3 on ultra (if possible).
Specifications:
- 500gb hard drive
- decent graphics card that will last a few years without becoming unable to play games.
- windows 7 (64 bit 0r 32, whatever is better).

Thanks :)

Answer
You know why not many people are answering you question? What you want is already way too high then your budget. Playing Battlefield 3 on ultra you need something atleast around 800 bucks (probably more).

500gb internal hard drive costs lowest $70.
'decent' graphics card that will last a 'few' years without becoming unable to play games (I assume new ones) will costs lowest $90 and that will not go for a 'few' years.
Windows 7 64bit, (32bit is so bad I wouldn't even consider it) costs you at least $70.00.

Yet just those cost $230.00
And it will not meet your requirements. You still need a power supply, a case, fans, CPU (most important part), motherboard, monitor and all those stuff.

Have more money and then we'll talk, ok?

I challenge anyone to 'custom build' a gaming PC, right here on yahoo - for under £500. Not including the monitor, or any unnecessary devices such as keyboards and mice!

Best specs wins!

Answer
UK is expensive, however i tried

What Components Should I Use For A Custom Gaming PC?

Xenon

Okay. So I want to build my first computer, typically for gaming because my laptop sucks. I need to ask you people, who are probably smarter than me, what components I should use. I have already decided on my RAM (2 Corsair Vengeance Blue 16 GB DDR3 SDRAM Dual Channel Memory Kits), but I want to know what CPU I should use, what the best motherboard is for it, what graphics card I should get, and so on. So here are my 'guidelines', if you may.
Graphics Card: Under $800, can handle some good graphics (Portal 2, Battlefield 3, so on)
CPU: Preferably Intel, since AMD runs really hot. Under $600.
Hard Drive: I would like an SSD, but they're quite expensive. Areound 750GB-1TB or bigger, under $500.
Optical Drive: Not as needed, but if you could recommend some good ones that would be cool.
Power Supply: Nothing special, I guess. If there are good ones that can boost performance that would be great.
If there is anything I missed, please tell me and I'll look up some.
I didn't miss the monitor, mouse, keyboard, and case, I already know what I want for those.

Answer
GPU - GTX 780

CPU - 4770K

SSD - Crucial M500 960GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT960M500SSD1 - $650

UNDER $500 - you can only get up to 512gb SSD at newegg.

PSU - 850W corsair (for SLI setup in the future) or corsair 650W PSU for a system with a single GTX 780.

I have a AMD Athlon II 630 Quad-Core Proccesor. 4GB DDR3 system memory. windows 7.64 bit. and a ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics. My budget is under 500. I want to be able to play diablo 3 in highest settings and all the new games that will come out.

Answer
I can't help you to choose a graphics card as you will need to check what motherboard and power supply you have.

When looking for a graphics card the best thing to do is check if you have PCI-e slots and what version they are. You will also need to check what wattage your power supply is, make sure it has enough wattage for the graphics card. 500$/£ is easily enough to afford a good enough graphics card to run Diablo 3, and if you get the current series of new graphics card it will be future proofed for any games in the next 3 - 5 years or so. Also check the connections of the graphics card to see if it will work with your monitor although converters are widely sold if not.

After checking all these, you need to find a graphics card suitable for your motherboard and power supply.

Are there any new desktop towers without an integrated graphics card?

Bob

And comes witha decent cp for gaming

Must cost under 500 no screen needed
CPU

If theirs many may you list them? Because i havent found a single one ( thats new)

Answer
Many, look around.

What's a cp?
No screen - no monitor.

best gaming monitor under 500 image

This summer I plan on building my own gaming PC and assembling it at home because it is cheaper and I like to customize things myself. It is an 850 dollar computer but the specs are exceptional. For the motherboard and processor, I am following a YouTube tutorial. In the YouTube video it says only 500 watts of power are needed, but in the comment section somebody (who was picked for best answer) claims that you actually need at least 630. I am planning on getting a 750 watt battery anyways, but if I don't need to, I'll try and get something cheaper. So how much power will I need based on this setup:

Answer
500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7850/Pages/radeon-7850.aspx#2

Thus, for a system with a single HD7850, a good branded 600W PSU is the ideal one to get and since your mobo does not support crossfire, then that 750W is too much for that build since Xfire is already not possible.

BTW, for Xfire, amd recommends 600W minimum, thus 700W is the ideal one to have (just an added info).
