Is his a good monitor for gaming?

I just need some opinions. I think this is a pretty good deal. Here is the link.

I have a 22" monitor now that i am playing on, but it is not hd. I think this monitor is. Any info would be great. Thanks

Answer
I would stick with well-known brands and Glossy screens. Glossy screens aren't anti-glare(matte), but they do look a lot better. You can tell a difference.

Is it possible to build a gaming pc for under a grand? This computer will be used from graphic design/multimedia (flash video creation, photoshop, etc.) It will also be playing games such as WoW, Portal 2, and maybe even Crysis 2. Any recommendation on how this could be done would be greatly appreciated. If you believe the system I'm looking for will cost over 1,000 please explain why. And thank you!

Answer
Yes, It is, IF you choose the right spec and build it your self. And If by "under a grand" you mean under 1000 $, here's my recommendation :

AMD Phenom II X4 955 3,2 ghz
MoBo Biostar TA890GXB
HDD 1TB WD
RAM DDR3 2x2 GB
XFX HD6850 GPU
PSU CORSAIR pure 600W

In total, it's about 8.2 million rupiahs....roughly US$950, includes the chassis, DVD Drive, logitech Mouse+Keyboard & logitech Speaker. US$1070 with windows 7 home premium. (Excluding the Monitor)

Yeah maybe that price is a bit...high, but you'll be able to play heavy games like crysis 2 on full HD and high settings without lags or something like that.

Also, these I got these price from a local store here in Indonesia. You might be able to find cheaper ones online, or where you live.

How much should a PC with these specs cost?

MT

quad core clocked at around 2.9GHZ
8gb ram
1tb hdd
graphics card not so good not so bad (moderate gaming)
mid-large gaming case
no monitor

how much is the best deal u can get or how much do these ussually cost?

Answer
My rig: Intel i5-2500 @3.3GHz
Nvidia GTX 460 1024 MB
8GB DDR3 RAM
2x 1 TB drives
2x DVD-rom drives
MSI P-67 GD-53 motherboard
23" 1080p monitor

Cost to build: $800 (US)
Cost to buy retail: $1400 (US)

I would suggest building

gaming monitor 24 vs 27 image
Q. Both monitors cost the same and are of the same brand, it's just a size difference. I hear alot of forums saying that 24'' is better since a 27'' is too big (have to look around the screen). However, I've seen a few (but not as many as the ones choosing the 24'') saying that bigger is better due to picture quality? I don't have much experience with screens, thanks in advance!

Answer
I bought a 32" and love it because the more the better with screen size, for shooters I was a little dizzy for a bit but bigger is better. Unless you are a pro, in which case you should listen to the pros.

27" vs 24" gaming/editing monitor?

freshpoo4u

so I'm getting a pc soon and it's going to be used for everything from heavy gaming to editing in photoshop and Sony Vegas. I have the necessary specs for what I want. Now all I need is the monitor and I have no idea what to do. The 1440p monitors are WAY too expensive. I have heard however about those Korean brands...but I'm scared to try those out. I really want a 27 inch monitor (preferably Ips) but I guess 24" is fine. I haven't really made up my mind. My budget is 350 and less. Any suggestion? Personal experiences? Anything helps.

Answer
For hybrid gaming/editing use, the best monitor you could get would be an IPS-panel with 1920x1200 (16:10) resolution at 24". Never buy a TN-panel.

A 27" IPS-monitor with 2560x1600 (or 2560x1440) will be a problem in heavy games due to the high resolution (requires more power, or a non-native resolution choice). It also costs more (but would be the best option for editing).

Two good (and cheap) 24" monitors that I can personally recommend (tried both):
* DELL U2412M ULTRASHARP (24").
* HP ZR2440W (24").
Find the best/cheapest online computer store you trust, list IPS-panels by price, and look at the cheapest ones that has 1920x1200 resolution. That is a good starting point.

I've planned to buy a core i5 3570. i previously planned for a ASRock Z77 extreme 4. but why cant i buy a cheaper motherboard and spend the extra cash on the video card?

am just 16 and am only a time-pass gamer. i'll play games like assassins creed 3, most wanted 2012, hitman absolution, cod black ops, fifa etc. i dont use multi monitors nor multi gpu's. i dont overclock and i dont use my computer for special purposes. i only use internet, download, watch movies, play games, thats all.
so far i've planned for a HD7770 2GB.

so why should i go for a high performing motherboard? are there really any advantages in the extreme 4 that cud help 'me'? can i go for a intel DB75EN or a ASRock H77 pro4 for my usage?

or if i go for one of these ,will i be able to use multi gpu's or a high performing card like the gtx 680 in the future?.

i think am clear and i desperately need u guys to clarify my doubts.......

thank you.....:)

If not looking to overclock the cpu, or for crossfiring / SLI of graphics, an H77 or B75 motherboard is fine. That is a direct simple answer. There are no 2 slot SLI capable H77's, but there are crossfire ready.
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/#l=1000&k=2,3,4,5,6&c=26,36
The difference is x8 as a pair with shared bandwidth, vs a requirement of cable connecting crossfiring.

Now, the question is whether you need the i5 at all. Although there is about a 7% advantage in the GPU for PCIe x 16 at 3.0
If planning to be at GTX 680 or a pair of top cards, then the i5 is appropriate.
Another option is going AMD with FX-4300 and its matching motherboards and using the cost difference to get to HD 7850, HD 7870, GTX 660, etc.

CPUs in general use:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/536?vs=548
AN FX-4300 can support well until talking GTX 670 and up.

does this sounf like a good gaming computer to you or could i do better with my money?

Here is the best Budget decent gaming PC I can give you at that price range and I wouldn't recommend anything less bec for me "decent" means that you will be able to play ALL GAMES on high-max settings with the appropriate resolution.

What I have given you is the I3-2100(best budget gaming processor) and the HD 6850 (best budget GPU) that can let you play all games on high settings, some on max settings (depending on resolution and game requirements).

The HD 6850 is currently ranked #15 overall in benchmark, a step higher than the GTX 560 (ranked #16) yet significantly much cheaper =P

BTW, the monitor is 1080p

Glad to help =P

I need to buy an LCD monitor, preferably 21 inch or 22 inch which has connectors for PS2 and preferably PS3 also (though the latter is not important).
I already have a Z-5500 speakers which are said to be the best in pc speakers, I also would like to get an LCD monitor which will make it really cool to play games on with my PS2.

Answer
i recommend Samsung Touch Of Color T220HD 22-inch LCD HDTV Monitor.
Touch of Color bezel - While the crystal-like bezel frame catches light beautifully, it actually reduces reflection of light off the bezel. And since the rich red color is injection molded for a blown glass effect, instead of spray painted, there is less environmental impact. It's easy on your eyes as well as on the environment
Dolby Digital Surround (3 W x 2 ch) An invisible speaker system with Dolby Digital Surround (3 W x 2 ch) gives sound quality to match the impressive picture.
10,000 - 1 Dynamic-Contrast Ratio - The ultra-wide range gives you blacks and whites that are full of detail, even under adverse lighting conditions (typically 1,000 - 1 static-contrast ratio)
300 cdm2 Brightness
Full HDTV monitor - The T220HD features a built-in full HD 1080p digital HDTV tuner, so you can watch both TV and HDTVDual HDMI inputs, DVI and VGA inputs / 2 HDMI connections

what are the legalities behind running an internet cafe geared towards computer games??? Would i need to buy special copies of games?? And would i need special copies of windows?? Who would i get a hold of to do so??

Answer
You would need to get Windows licenses on a per seat basis - so if you have 20 computers you would need 20 licenses. I am not an expert so you need to research that yourself.

http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/

I'm reasonably sure that you would have to buy either individual copies of games, or get them in bulk. You would need to search individually for each game and what they require.

best gaming computer to buy image

Rhomp

I hate the 360, the games ive played last about 10 hours for me before i want to keel over and puke.

Like GTA4 and Halo 3, some of the most overrated games in history.

So please give me reasons and or options on what i could do with the money/ what gaming computer i should buy.

Answer
Well saying GTA4 and Halo 3 are overrated is a matter of opinion and not fact. I have a gaming computer, Xbox 360, and PS3. In my opinion the Xbox 360 is the best system for games. I would suggest a PS3, but if you puke playing the 360 you might break a PS3. Honestly if you really do not like the 360 you should consider another platform like a PC that would be more suitable for your taste. The PC is great for strategy games and MMO's, and some old and new school FPS games. Another thing you will have to consider is a good gaming PC will cost you at least $1500 unless you build one yourself you might be able to knock a few hundred dollars off the price. Also the frustration that comes with a gaming computer because sometimes things just don't work. If the 360 makes you puke playing games imagine getting excited buying a new PC game coming home and the game continuously crashes because of some random issue that can take hours to fix. And if you don't know a lot about bios settings, open gl, and just simply being able to troubleshoot software issues good luck. I'm not saying this will definitely happen, but with PC's dont be surprised. I would never chose a gaming PC over the 360, but it very well be what you need to get your gaming fix.

What is the best processor for a gaming computer?

Q. I am building a gaming computer and I have bought every part for it except I'm debating between an Intel i7 extreme or an AMD (the model with 8 cores don't know the name). My friend told me that Intel processors are way overrated... Is this true? Which is more worth the money?

Answer
Intel overrated - uh no. They are not overrated. Overpriced, yes, maybe there is some truth to that.

But for a gaming rig, Intel is the way to go. The best possible processor right now would have to be the Ivy Bridge i5 3570k. Its a great, and super fast processor, perfectly suited for gaming. You don't need an 8 core AMD processor for a gaming rig. Especially when the "high-end" AMD CPU can barely keep up with the i5 3570k which is only a mainstream processor for Intel.

Go with the i5 3570k you'll be glad you did (as long as you have a good graphics card to go with it, like a GTX 660, or a Radeon HD 7870).

How would I hook up a playstation 2 to an Acer 23" LCD pc monitor?

Calvin

My Acer LCD wide screen pc monitor (model H233H) has 1 hdmi input, 1 dvi w/ hdcp input, and 1 vga input. I doesn't have an audio output but it does have built in speakers.

I want to buy a playstation 2 to play some games that came out a few years ago and also because it's affordable. I can't afford a ps3 right now.

Answer
You have a good chance of going to a local computer store (the kind that build computers) and talk with one of them and see if they have in stock or can design you a cable that connects from the PS2 to the HDMI or DVI or VGA input.

gaming monitor for fps image

Ben

Hi guys I have had my x box for a long time its the x box slim and it is connected to a monitor. This means I cant hear any of the game sound. I was considering getting a T.V because then I could actually hear sound in the game but all my friends say a monitor has more fps and is generally better they have both so I trust there opinion. My monitor is terrible it only has two slots one to connect straight to electricity and one to to connect to my x box. My ideal thing to have is turtle beaches so I can talk to friends and hear the game as well and to be actually able to record my gameplay and my voice I know I wont do well on YouTube views but I would just love to be able to do it.
My budget is 200 and I could stretch to 250 so if i need to buy special speakers or a new monitor or even a tv then I will. I will also have to buy some kind of software to record sound and gameplay.
Links would be extremely helpful and more than one option would be too.
Thanks very much.

Answer
Preliminary Analysis:
-If you can't hear sound then I can safely assume your monitor doesn't have an HDMI port.

-If you want to record youtube gameplays you will need 2 monitors (1 for your xbox and 1 for your computer) as it can't be done all in one.

-You will need to buy a headset (turtle beaches are good and cheap, especially the X12). You will need to buy a second monitor with an HDMI port, or an HDTV. You will need to buy a recording device.

-You have $250 dollars available.

-Monitor vs. HDTVs in console gaming hardly matters unless you are a Pro player. I discussed this topic here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApIXBV4j_eYU27qAJrEChp_ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20130513035349AAVN6Ub

Feel free to fully read it and draw your own conclusions.

How this is going to work:

-The Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 ($39.99 Manufacturer Refurbished- 90 day warranty, that's the cheapest I could find them for.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turtle-Beach-Ear-Force-X12-Amplified-Stereo-Gaming-Headset-Refurb-/330876907315?pt=US_Video_Game_Headsets&hash=item4d09ccef33

-Samsung 24" Ultra Slim LED Monitor VGA HDMI 1920x1080 Fast Response S24B300EL
($139, Seller Refurbished/Used, 60 day warranty, you can add an extra 1 year warranty for $23 extra. Being used/seller refurbished can be a hassle but you won't find a monitor of this category for less than $200, it's worth a try)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-24-Ultra-Slim-LED-Monitor-VGA-HDMI-1920x1080-Fast-Response-S24B300EL-/140968306779?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item20d25da85b

The reason why I chose a monitor is because due to their size they are cheaper than TVs and you are under budget.

-Elgato Game Capture HD ($159.36 New. I don't think you want to buy this used but you are free to do so at Ebay. I can't recommend any other Game Capture Device because this one is the best in the market and I haven't tried any other to be honest. You need a computer that can handle basic video processing and the better your computer is the less time and the better quality your videos will have. You will need "audacity" (free program) to add audio to your comentaries if you pre-record them. You will need Sony Vegas Pro, which you can pay a lot for or get it by other means that I can't discuss here. Or if you don't want the complexity of choices that Sony Vegas Pro will give you, you can just use Windows Movie Maker to render the audio you recorded in Audacity and your gameplay videos together.

http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Capture-PlayStation-Recorder-10025010/dp/B00840353W

As you can see:
$139+$40+$160=$339

It is above your $250 budget but it will be worth every penny if you truly enjoy gaming and uploading gameplay videos. There might be less expensive equipment but you will get no where near the same performance. The choice is yours. Good Luck. Hope it helps...

What is the best monitor on the market for FPS gaming?

Parker

I am looking for a new monitor for my PC Gaming rig. I only play FPS games.

What is "THE BEST" monitor on the market at the moment for gaming that will deliver the maximum frame rate? (My computer can play games over 100fps, but I just need a monitor that can deliver more than 60fps for me to enjoy it to the max)

Anyone know of the best?

Answer
welll.. define "The Best"

by my standards (and your not gonna like this) the BEST display would be:
NEC PA301W 30" IPS 2560x1600 monitor. for the best experiences you'l need 3 of them.
99% perfect color reproduction
excellent contract
14 bit 3D color dictionary (some 1.3 billion colors)
it supports 3D display
industry standard for graphics, video, and game designers.
its um, $2300 each, and 3 of them would be... $6900. and since its obviously extremely valuable, shipping would be like $400 ($200 to ship + $200 in insurance)

you'll need dual-link DVI -out or you'll have trouble enjoying this top-quality monitor.
this is as close as you can get to an Apple computer's display, which is the best there is.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4196/nec-pa301w-review-the-baddest-30-inch-display

MaximumPC's Dream Machine 2011 utilized 3 of the best monitors in the world.
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/dream_machine_2011_how_we_created_best_pc_ever
they also had three nVidia GTX 580's to back i up, I seriously doubt anything less can actually handle so many pixels. at 4800x2560 most graphics cards will be struggling to produce even 5 FPS.

This summer I plan on building my own gaming PC and assembling it at home because it is cheaper and I like to customize things myself. It is an 850 dollar computer but the specs are exceptional. For the motherboard and processor, I am following a YouTube tutorial. In the YouTube video it says only 500 watts of power are needed, but in the comment section somebody (who was picked for best answer) claims that you actually need at least 630. Answer
500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7850/Pages/radeon-7850.aspx#2

Thus, for a system with a single HD7850, a good branded 600W PSU is the ideal one to get and since your mobo does not support crossfire, then that 750W is too much for that build since Xfire is already not possible.

BTW, for Xfire, amd recommends 600W minimum, thus 700W is the ideal one to have (just an added info).

Under 500 dollars? I am fed up with this school computer. I want to pack it up into a box and forget it exists. It would be nice to be able to use proxies, gaming, email, and facebook again too. I only need a tower, I will use my school's monitor, but this tower is humming and driving me insane. Running slower than ever and has school blocks on it.
NEVER AGAIN.

Answer
For 500$ you could get a almost heavy duty gaming machine! IF you build one yourself, dont be scared its not hard at all.If you dont want to build one, just go to IBUYPOWER.com or CYBERPOWERPC.com. they're both great

PC BUILD:
AMD a-10 5800K @ 3.8 GHz (4.2Gz Turbo Boost) quad core *comes with Radeon HD 7660D* CPU
Radeon HD 6670 to crossfire with the 7660D above (graphics card)
ASRock FM2A75M-DGS FM2 AMD A75 (Motherboard)
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 (ram)
Seagate Barrucuda 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower case
CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS.
well, thats pretty much all you need for anything, you could play Battlefield 3 almost maxed out with this monster budget machine.
total (from newegg only) is only 464$!!! you could add a few Super-quiet additions to it if you want the PC running very quiet too, though ive hear the AMD APU's run quiet by themselves, well I hope this helped you!!!>: remember if you DONT wanna build, go to IBuyPower.com or CyberPowerPC.com, they're both great (the pc build is MUCH better for the money though ;)

I wanna build a gaming computer but i don't know what parts to get and stuff. I'm completely lost pretty much. Can anyone help which parts to get?

Answer
First off here are two good tutorials on how to build them and what you need.
--http://computer.howstuffworks.com/build-a-computer.htm
Then to get you parts I recommend that you go to Newegg.com and if buy for some chance they don't have what you need, go to TigerDirect.com.
But to get you started on a place to look you need:

Processor
Motherboard
Video Card
Hard Drive
RAM
Disc Drive
Operating System
Power supply
Case (can come with built in power supply so you dont need to buy one)
And If you plan on making a hardcore computer you will need extra fans/heat sinks/or liquid cooling.

Also let me in on what type of computer you are building and i can recommend a good configuration, Like hardcore or casual gaming.

I'm looking to play borderlands but my graphics card is a Geforce 6150 LE which is an integrated card and isn't very good. My power supply is only 280 W. Not sure what amps are so could someone tell me what they are and how to find them? i was going to get a Geforce 9800 gt but i don't have a good enough power supply. Also, i realized that my computer is smaller than others and found out i need a Half height card, and i just want to play borderlands and i really don't care about ultra settings. I don't mind low i just want to run the game. Also, the graphics card can't require any sort of external power because i only have 1x4 pin molex cord so... yea.

Laptop or PC?

To run all the modern games today you need intel i5 > 2.5 GHZ boost up to 3.0+ GHZ (Or AMD equivalent), and a graphic card > Nvidia 9600M-GT or AMD Radeon HD 6470M and above.
The 1 GIG or 2 GIG GT640M appears to be a decent mobile video card.
Oh and 6 GIG 1333MHZ/1600MHZ DDR3 RAM, although you can add this your self.

Thanks ;) also at end can you tell me the specs at the end if u can?

Answer
either clay is a fking reatard or he is the one who made the site(which i guess that still makes his a retard lol).

Not only is this information HORRIDLY outdated, its just wrong on a lot of things. What they were saying, i 1/2 expected them to say "for a gaming video card get the one with the most memory", but they didnt go into too much detail on video cards other then AGP is the standard...

The only thing they got semi ok on that site was a good recommended build. similar to mine but they dont include the OS, and they recommend a 775W psu.... wtf??? are you fking kidding me? what are you planning quad sli???

it really depends on your budget. You can usually get the best priced computers by building yourself at http://newegg.com and http://tigerdirect.com (new egg is much better, but you never know when tiger might have a good sale). its only for people in the US. (newegg.ca and tigerdrect.ca for canada).
the thing i kind of dont like about tiger is they list the price AFTER mail in rebate.... not only do those take months they are hard to actually get back. newegg lists the price you pay and in smaller print says $X after mail in rebate.

Anyway you can either completely put one together yourself, id say something like this:
amd phenom II x4 955
full atx AM3 socket motherboard
4gb of ddr3 dual channel ram
ati 5770 graphics card
400-500W psu, 80+ certified
500gb-1tb 7200rpm sata II 32-64mb cache HDD
any sata dvd burner
antec/coolmaster/nzxt/thermalwate/rosewill mid atx case
windows 7 home 64bit

id say that will cost you around $500-650 depending on what you get.

The other alternative is buy a premade one, usually the premade ones for under $600 arnt too bad.
in order from worst>best
$549: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227314
$569: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229223
$599(but $50 off promo! until 5/2): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103361

Really it would be hard to beat the prices of these computers building your own, especially the acer, $550 for that is insane..

How to stop my computer from shutting down when I play sims 3?

Q. Hi There :)
I have sims 3 installed on my computer and the first couple times I played it was fine, but now whenever I play it randomly shuts down on me and I have to wait like 5 Minutes before I can turn on my computer again.
Is there some way I can prevent from this happening again?
P.S I have a Windows XP Desktop Computer.

Answer
It may be your graphics card. I had the same problem with my computer (although a Windows Vista) but if you're graphics card is too old it may not support the game. Even with my game it had graphics issues and eventually started crashing my computer. I had to update my graphics card online. There are ones that you can buy but it will be around $50 cheapest.

to see if you have the right graphics card:
check the back of the game case and look for the cards that support it.
and go to Run, type in dxdiag and click ok, click Display Tab (on top of the window that opens) and it should say which card you have under Device :)

What's a reasonably good gaming computer for a reasonable price?

Nickolas

Hi,
I'm looking for a good gaming computer for a good price. I'm also thinking of "building" my own computer. So, if you could recommend a good computer or a good processor and/or graphics card. The furthest extent of the games that I'll be playing would probably be Portal 2, Half-Life 2, Loadout, The Ship, and maybe Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod. I'm not asking for a top-of-the-line gaming computer. Nor, the latest and greatest parts. If you would kindly recommend a reasonable computer and/or parts for these games, that would be great. If it could also be less than $500 in total, that would be awesome. Also, I don't care if it's a laptop or a desktop, as long as it works well and is within my budget, that's awesome as well.
Thank you,
Nick
I already have a PS3, and have a enough money tucked away for the PS4. I travel a fair bit(a couple times a week, but just to friends houses). A laptop would be nice and convenient, but it needs to be within my budget and can work well. If it needs to be a desktop, so be it. Thanks for the specs and recommendations, I'll be sure to look out for that.

Answer
Laptops are never considered as gaming accessories, it is only for those gamer's who are on the move and also like to play games while traveling. I personally own both a Sony Vaio Laptop ( which is still good for new games on medium settings) and a intel core i5 gaming rig.

When you are thinking about buying or building a custom end gaming pc.you have to keep some things in mind.

1. What is my budget?
2. Should i only be doing gaming on my pc or other side work too?

You have to Check for below things when buying or building a gaming pc.

1. A good Graphics Card ( This is my first Priority, I will recommend go for Nvidia or Ati ).
2. A bigger RAM ( 8 GB to 12 GB will be enough to run games in optimal settings ).
3. CPU ( Central Processing Unit : a intel core i3 or any other with same or greater performance ).
4. HHD ( Hard Disk Drive : Above than 200 GB you can go higher depending on your budget ).

The same requirements are for laptops too.

You can check website like Amazon, Best Buy and Ebay ( Ebay is particularly good if you are low on budget, but be careful while buying and always select seller that are in your country and have good ranking and reviews ).

I have a advice you mentioned your budget is $500 why don't you consider buying a next gen gaming console like Xbox One or PS4.

Because a Powerful Gaming PC/laptop has one downfall. You have to keep it upgraded as new games comes in the market. While a Console have no such issue. All new games don't require general requirements for a Console you can play any game you want till a new console comes in which is pretty much not happening soon after PS4/Xbox One.

Take a look at the gap:

PS1 release date : 1994
PS2 release date : March 4, 2000
PS3 release date : November 11, 2006
PS4 expected : November 2013
PS5 maybe : 2019-2020

same goes with Xbox One with little difference.

Each PlayStation has a Gap of 6 year's. That mean Buy a PS4/Xbox One and forget about spending money for next 6 year on another PS/Xbox Console.

I watch TV on my comp and watch quite a few DVDs. I want to get a better monitor (the current one is a tacky unbranded one from PC World) but what do I need to look out for? The primary concern, I guess, is brand, size, and connection. But as I want to watch movies and TV, I don't want the screen to blur etc. TIA

Answer
It depends on what you want to do. If you're just doing papers for school or browsing the web, you don't need to worry about "response time" (how fast the pixels can shift back and forth).

Since you specifically mention watching movies and TV, response time is a concern. If you were a "gamer", you'd also look for this.

Also, be aware of what kind of video connection is coming out of the back of your PC (VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc.). That way you don't get home and discover that you can't plug your new monitor in.

Once you're at the store, identify the monitors with the good response times and then let your eyes pick which one you like best. Often viewing the monitor is a better judge than comparing the specifications of the monitors.

What is a good gaming computer for world of warcraft?

JoshuaB

Mainly i just lag in Dalaran and Wintergrasp i get like 5 fps in Dalaran, but im looking for a new gaming computer got a budget of 1200$. I also want to be able to play other games. I am running on a mac right now.

Answer
You don't need a powerhouse PC to run World of Warcraft but if you're in the market for a new PC at an affordable price, try ecollegepc.com. They build PCs with an impressive setup starting at around $500. These systems have no operating system but leave the option if you so choose. If you don't already have a monitor that leaves you with plenty of spending money. If you must save where you can, I recommend the Core 2 Duo but if it's free game, go for the Quad Cores. This will prepare you for the inevitable future when games will require it.
If you plan on using Windows for gaming, stick with a 32 bit operating system. While some games utilize the 64-bit architecture, others may not support it or even run on it. This also limits your usable ram to around 3 GB so bare that in mind when selecting memory. DDR3 ram should be more than enough and is easily upgradable.

As for Vista and WoW, the most common problems with frame-rate is caused by Creative Labs cards. This is due to the fact that Vista lacks the Vendor Extension required in some games such as World of Warcraft. This is solved simply by heading to the Creative Labs website and downloading a program called ALchemy. It's a Direct Sound interpreter for Creative Labs sound cards used in Vista. This should solve the problem IF you have a Creative Labs sound card. This solved my own frame-rate issues in WoW.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Q. Does anyone know what a good gaming monitor would be? Preferably one that runs over 60hz, has over a 20 inch screen, and has a good contrast ratio? Thanks.

Answer
Check out that link, There aren't any "gaming monitors", the most you can do is look for the best quality monitor and a size and resolution your PC can handle. I assume you'll be using this for a PC...even then, you can just hook up a PC to your HDTV if it's supported. I'd shoot for that HP 2509m or LG W2486L.

Good luck.

Gaming PC build that could run any game for the next few years?

ChucNorris

I'm looking into building a new gaming PC. I would like to be able to play games like Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2, and other games coming out in the next few years. I want this computer to last me at least 4 years without needing any expensive upgrades. My budget is about 800 but I'd be willing to go up to 1000. I want to max these games out and run them at a full steady 60 frames per second.
Thanks.

Best combination of computer components for around 600 including tower. Im totally new to computer gaming and dont much about computers

Answer
Well, you could buy a computer for around 600$ that will run games, but within the next 1-2 year's it would become outdated very fast. My suggestion would be to buy a barebones kit from Tigerdirect "It comes with all the thing's to make a computer, but you build it yourself" you can build a 1000+ dollar computer for 500-600 dollar's the catch is you have to assemble it yourself, and you being new to computer gaming you might not know how to assemble everything so I would have a trustworthy friend do it for you, It saves you ton's of money in the long run, and most are extensively upgradable. I'll link some of the kit's in the description. It doesn't come with a monitor or mouse but you can find those relatively cheap I have some sitting around and if you were my buddy I would give them to you for free, but most gamers have those thing's laying around so chances are one of your friend's will.

Best parts for a gaming computer around 600 dollars?

wutnameisn

My dad can put computers together, but i would like to know what parts i should get for a gaming computer, for around 600 dollars. I am looking for the top fps i can get, i know this obviously is not a lot of money for a gaming computer, but i wanted to see if anyone could give me any suggestions

Answer
I just whipped this together, might take some tweaking. Have your dad look it over:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Processor (Quad x 3.20 GHz) - $120
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5752143&CatId=4432

Gigabyte GA-880GM-D2H Motherboard (Supports DirectX 10.1) - $70
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7109093&CatId=5539

2 x 2GB RAM 1333MHz (4GB all together) - $35
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1239959&CatId=4534

Radeon HD 5830 - $150
http://www.thrift-king.com/hardware/video-capture-editing/powercolor-pcs-hd5830-1gb-gddr5-pci-ex-video-card.html

600w Power Supply - $35
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6448054&CatId=1483

1TB HDD (Western Digital, unfortunately) - $65
http://www.thrift-king.com/hardware/western-digital-hdd-1tb-wd10ears-caviar-green-sata3-0-desktop-storage-64mb-cache-bare.html

Subtotal: $475 Not including tax (TigerDirect may include tax, I'm not totally sure)

----

To do with the remainder:

1 - Try to find a motherboard (which still supports an AM3 slot for the processor) that supports DirectX 11.

2 - Consider upping the 5830 GCard to a 5870 if you have the money. It's about $80 more but it's a lot more powerful. Consult this list:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

3 - Lastly, if you don't have a case already, throw in a cheap case.

4 - If you don't have a monitor, scrap the last 3 "To do's" and buy the best one you can afford.

----

That's my two cents. I tried to match the best items I could find for the budget given to work as well with each other as possible. That's a pretty decent gaming PC - especially for the price. It will play any game out there today without a problem.

Of course I'm just giving you the hardware. You wouldn't have to buy them from the links I've given you.

The only downside is there isn't much room for expanshion. When it is time to upgrade the PC a few years down the road, you'll have to throw out the motherboard and the power supply. I will suggest getting a motherboard with two PCI 2.0 slots, buying another GCard (the same as you decided to go with initially) and a 800W or over power supply. Then crossfire the cards, and your machine will have almost twice the gaming power.

Hope this helped. The little bits and bobs (like internet cards) are really cheap now days (~$10) so don't worry about them yet.

My goal for 2013 was to build a amazing gaming rig, (I was going to do this in 2012 but couldn't come up with the money)

My Rig I'm, wanting to build is a triple monitor setup (For Eye-Infinity)
I'm wanting to play future games such as battlefield 4, and games now like Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3.
I'm wanting to be able to play these games at ultra settings, that way I never have to worry about lag (Like on consoles which are at low settings). I'm wanting to know what graphics card I would need what kind of CPU I would need ect. And The TOTAL Price, The most I'm wanting to spend is $2000 at the max, I don't want to spend more than that I don't mind but The most I am willing to go to is $2750. I have some parts picked out right now which I have linked below but would like to know what else I will need to have a powerful gaming pc,

(please do try to make it a lower budget (lower the budget, the more games I can get for the PC :P)

PC Case : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133196

Monitor : http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VE228H-21-5-Inch-Integrated-Speakers/dp/B00413PHDM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1U90Q3X1RFYPN&coliid=I1CMIGB0F09QET

Please help me out here guys I'm wanting to build a epic gaming rig for 2013 - 2014!!! thanks!

Answer
Hello, No need for $2750, $2000 is more than enough.

Case : Poor pick, Get cooler master scout2 case, can add 6 120 mm fans, 2 front usb 3 ports, 2 front usb 2 ports.
Monitor : Nice pick.
Optical Drive : Holy shit! xD Amazing one :D do not get it unless if you REALLY need blue ray optical drive.
HDD : Nice pick. even though WD is better than segate.
OS : Good choice! be away from Windows 8 if you want gaming pc.

Take this build, will max anything out there, futureproof for at least 3 years.

Good luck with your pc :)

Would this be a great gaming computer for 2013?

Kevin

I've been considering on buying, or building a computer for me. I am a big gamer and have had all my games on my Inspiron 14R 4010N and well with new games coming out it is behaving like a piece of crap. So this time I want to go with a desktop, will this run all my games and future ones? My types of games are Modern Warfare 2-3, Black Ops II, Battlefield 3, DayZ. I want to know if it will handle it fine, not looking for crazy insane lifelike quality of my games just something between sweet and eh.

This this is the computer:

Answer
Keep looking. You've landed firmly in "eh." AMD Quad-Core FX-4100 processor 3.60GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GT 610. A very low-end CPU paired with the absolute lowest end dedicated card that Nvidia makes. At least the two are a good match. Neither one is good. If $500 is your budget, you're going to be hard-pressed to get anything above .. eh. You really need to be in the range of $700-800 and even that's probably just above mediocre.

Here's a few build-it recommendations: $500 PC: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/build_pc_any_budget_three_builds_500_2000?page=0,1
