What happened to the survivors of Tiananmen Massacre?

Answer
They continue to be harassed and monitored.
I read the account of few of them.

Fang Zheng:
A 42-year-old former student at the Beijing Academy of Physical Science, Fang had his legs crushed on June 4 under a tank while pushing a female student protester out of a tank's path. Fang was subsequently expelled from the school after refusing to publicly deny the source of his injuries, but went on to become China's Wheelchair and javelin champion in 1992 and 1993. However Fang's Tiananmen connections prompted the Chinese government to bar him from
competing in the Far East Games for the Disabled in Beijing in 1994 despite his promise not to discuss with foreign journalists the cause of his injury. Fang told a Singapore New Paper reporter in September 2008 that he maintained public silence and avoided travel to Beijing around the 2008 Beijing Olympics due to promises from government security forces that he would be given a job if he kept quiet and stayed away from Olympics. He's still waiting for the promise to materialize.

Ma Shaofang:
In June 1989, Ma was 10th on the list of most-wanted dissidents and served a three-year prison term for his role as a Tiananmen student protest organizer. Two decades later, Ma, now a Shenzhen-based
businessman, continues to be subject to police monitoring of his movements and activities.

On October 13, 2007, Ministry of State Security officers warned Ma not to attend a writer's conference in Beijing during the 17th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. In a blog posting in which Ma recounted the encounter, the State Security officers warned that, "If you get into trouble, we will be there, and it won't be good for you"

There and several such tales. Some went outside China for their treatment and behind them, their passports were canceled.

It looks like Ghosts of Tiananmen will keep haunting the Communist Party as long as they live. God willing they won't live long.

Is Huntsman the only "man of the people" in this race?

REXnC

I have not heard any other candidate talk about national unity and post-partisanship in this election cycle. I also like his message on Americans having a "trust deficit" in the institutions of power.

He's also the only candidate talking about breaking up the big banks, and besides Ron Paul, the only candidate not owned by Wall Street. (I would never vote for Paul though: his libertarian policies would make it absolutely impossible for people of meager means to have social mobility. Sad, but true.)

Answer
I have been impressed so far with his experience (state governance, successful business man, international and foreign policy experience), his demeanor in the debates (he addresses real issues with specific plans and doesn't engage in hyperbole), and the fact that he is clearly not a "made man" in DC.

This from the Concord Monitor:
....................
"Huntsman, a consistent but never doctrinaire conservative, would present the greatest challenge to Obama. If elected, he would provide mature, informed and steady leadership. He has a track record as governor of bringing all sides together to create an economic climate that helped his state prosper. And he has experience garnered while serving four presidents, starting with Ronald Reagan. Combine the foreign policy experience of all the other candidates in the race and Huntsman would top it. He has played the game at its highest level, serving first as ambassador to Singapore, then as a trade representative on behalf of the United States at the United Nations and, at Obama's request, as the United States' ambassador to China.

Huntsman accepted his posting to China because, he says, as a patriotic American, "when your president asks you to serve, you do it." Such willingness to put the good of the country over party considerations is exactly what's missing in politics today. As ambassador Huntsman walked a fine line between working to improve U.S.-China relations and trade while pushing China toward greater respect for human rights and freedom. He succeeded in doing both."
..........

The fact that he took Romney on about divisive language in the last debate was icing on the cake. As a nation, we must come together. Polarizing language, as used by the likes of Santorum, etc, does nothing to solve real problems.

I expect that if he does well in NH, the political dogs of war will go into overdrive looking for dirt on Huntsman.

What is the best recording equipment for gaming?

Hannah

I want to start making gaming videos on YouTube but im not sure what equipment to use. I already have a good quality video camera for myself but i need a reasonably cheap camera that i can use to record the actual games i am playing. Does anyone know where i can get a good quality camera thats not too expensive and that is not just a camera on a tripod?

Answer
Are you doing PC or Xbox 360/PS3 gaming?

If PC, look up a program called fraps and use it to record your gameplay.

If Xbox 360 or PS3, You will need something called a Capture card and also a few things to get you going.

These are products you can buy so you can record your gameplay:

HD PVR 2: http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Edition-Definition-Capture-Passthrough/dp/B008ZT8QKO

Fora little less, Roxio Game Capture: http://www.amazon.com/Roxio-Game-Capture-HD-PRO/dp/B008YTAGGW/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1374273652&sr=1-1&keywords=roxio+game+capture+hd+pro

You may need to also look up specific cables and connections if your playing with a HDTV or a monitor. Worse case, look up a tutorial for setting up the devices you need and keep track what cables and other products you may need to buy.

Hope this helps and good luck!

What is the best custom gaming computer?

best gaming computer 1500 image

Joe

i would like to know the best custom gaming computer i can buy with a budget of $1000-1500. I don't need a monitor. Yes i do want the best of what i can afford.

Answer
It would obviously be a custom one, built by yourself. You can't get a lower price than by doing it that way. For your budget, I'd recommend getting an AMD 7850, an i5 2500k (or, wait until the new LGA 2011 i5's come out, and get one around the same price, which is what I would recommend), 2x4GB of RAM, a 600-650W 80 Plus Bronze certified power supply, and the rest is pretty much just preference. Building a computer is very easy, and shouldn't take more than 3 hours doing it your first time. There's literally only about 7 parts and some cords, and they all snap together like Lego. This video series tells you pretty much everything you need to know about building one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw

It doesn't tell you much about choosing the parts, though, so if you want extra help on that, feel free to message me on here.
Building it yourself will ensure that you get what you pay for. You can go ahead and buy low quality parts that might break in a few months and save a hundred bucks or less in the process, or you can spend a bit more for quality. Newegg.com usually has the best prices on parts, and has great customer support.

Edit: I forgot a couple things. I'd recommend a 64GB SSD. Specifically, this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441
Install the operating system, and programs that you use very often on it. You'll notice an extremely large loading speed boost with an SSD. Also, if you have a measurable amount of money left over, you may want a larger (128GB; I recommend sticking with the M4 series) SSD, or a better graphics card, eg. the AMD 7950, 7970, or GTX 680.

What are the best specs for making a gaming computer?

John Pinke

I need to make a gaming computer that can run crysis 2, bf3, and metro 2033 efficiently on a $1500 budget and I don't know what the best parts to choose.

Answer
CPU: either Intel Core i5-2500K or better yet Intel Core i7-2600K (emphasis on the "K").
Get a good CPU cooler, as the stock Intel cooler is crap. Get a either a Cooler Master or a Sunbeam Twister 120 CPU cooler.
Motherboard: Get any motherboard with the newer Z68 Chipset, LGA 1155 socket, with SATA III (3) - 6.0Gb/s. It is the best setup for Sandy Bridge processors. I got this Gigabyte for $125:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128495&Tpk=z68ma-d2h-b3
HDD: Get an SSD SATA III (3) - 6.0Gb/s for your OS, 64GB or bigger (128GB would be best, I got the 64GB as I use Linux and Mac OS X, not Windows)
Also get a 1TB or 2TB Seagate SATA III (3) - 6.0Gb/s 7200rpm 32MB or 64MB cache hard drive for file storage
Get 8GB (2 x 4GB) of DDR3 1600MHz RAM (G.Skill Ripjaws X Series are the best, Corsair are also good). You do not need 16GB RAM for gaming, it is overkill.
A 750 Watts or bigger double rail top quality power supply (Cooler Master, Antec, OCZ, Corsair)
A good graphics card, nVidia GeForce 560 Ti or at least GTX 460 Fermi or even Radeon HD 6870 or 6970.
Dylano suggested the nVidia GTX 580, it is better but also much more expensive at $480 vs. the $240 for the 560 Ti or $160 for the GTX 460 Fermi. You would get about the same results if you use a 560 Ti and spend more on the i7-2600K CPU.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS
Good PC Case with plenty of space and air flow, at least 2 or 3 120 mm Fans (with blue LED for cool looks).

Good luck.

I want to buy a new gaming laptop for collage.I have this year an 1+ from high school and I am going to go in 2011-2012 in collage. I want a top gaming laptop of 3500-5500$
Will there be a new CPU, Graphic card, Ram that will be much faster then ?

Answer
This is sort of a pointless question.

Of course there will be new CPU's, new GPU's, faster and higher capacity RAM and hard drives. They are in a constant state of change, and new additions to each of those categories come out at least once a year, so you're looking at at least 2 generations better than what we have now.

But you might want to rethink your strategy, as a super powerful gaming laptop is not very portable and it's battery life will suck. And as a college student myself, you are going to want a laptop that you can take where ever you need, easily (both weight and size) and something that wont die in an hour. Come back to Yahoo Answers when you are ready to buy a gaming laptop, as any advice as to parts is pure speculation and will lead you astray.

Most reliable laptop brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many PCs: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Apple: 19%
Dell: 12%
Asus: 11%
HP: 11%
Acer: 9%
Lenovo: 9%
Toshiba: 9%
Samsung: 7%
Sony: 6%
Alienware: 3%
Fujitsu: 1%
MSI: 1%
Panasonic: 1%
I do not agree with this. But this was the results of a large survey...

I need a graphics card that can run the newest games on the highest details for a 19" monitor?

best quiet gaming computer image

I want to make a gaming computer but don't know what graphics card would be best for 1024x768~1280x1024.
It has to run the newest games on highest resolution.
Maybe a Vapor X HD 5770?
And please.Just ati cards.

Answer
The 5770 is your best bet. Currently it's got the best price/performance balance of any card on the market, and is more than capable of running any current game at high resolutions without a hitch. It's also really energy efficient, which is a nice plus. Obviously the 5870 is a big step up in power, but it's twice the price for a performance increase that's barely noticeable on the kind of resolutions people with normal sized monitors tend to play at.

It's also worth noticing that games haven't really been getting any more demanding as of late, which makes overkill seem like a bad move. Crysis is 3 years old, is easily played on the 5770, and it's still the most hardware intensive game there is.

I've got the VaporX, and it's great. Very quiet, and runs quite cool, but there is a hitch. Lots of them shipped with the incorrect BIOS, and so don't actually use all of their shaders. You can fix it with a simple bios flash, so it's no big deal, but be aware it might be under-performing out of the box.

Anyone know a good gaming computer that is worth its price?

I want to switch to pc gaming but idk the first thing about pc gaming computers so i was wondering does anyone know a good , doesnt have to be the best just pretty good processing power for running games like arma 2, battlefield 3, and starcraft 2, gaming computer that i could buy?

Answer
http://www.valkyrie-creations.com/product/tier-2-ragnarok-pro-gaming-system
**$1,164.00

That is the computer I'd recommend, it will play Battlefield 3 on Max settings and it will play any other game you through at it on max settings, that includes games within the next 2-5 years guaranteed.

This computer will NOT have to upgrade for quite some time. That's for sure.

Here is the rundown:

It has an i5 2500k CPU, which is currently one the best processors on the market, despite being the lowest of the sandy bridge line. These chips simply overclock better and run cooler than the rest. I would recommend this to anyone.

The second main part of any gaming system; is the Video Card. This system contains a Radeon HD 7950; which is one of the top 5 cards for gaming. Making it an obvious choice for maximum performance; this card will shred through games relatively easy. It runs cool, requires little power and is so quiet; you forget it's there.

This build boasts a Z77 Motherboard, which is the newly released intel architecture. This offers a fantastic and easy upgrade path for you. If you choose to upgrade in the future, there will be no compatibility problems waiting for you. Plus, this board comes with a whole slew of features most gamers and enthusiasts are looking for.

Also, this PC has a 1TB hard drive, which is plenty of internal storage; plus it comes with Windows 7 Home Edition pre-installed!

Another important note, is the 80+ Bronze Certified PSU, which means it's reliable and efficient, I've had the same PSU for 3 years and its never given me any trouble whatsoever.

Last but not least, is the 8GB of RAM. Which is the optimal amount for gaming, mostly due to the fact that no current titles or near future titles plan on utilizing more than 8GB of RAM; meaning anything over that is considered a waste (strictly speaking for games).

The case can be changed if you wish; You will definitely want something you can look at and love.

If you don't like this particular system, Valkyrie offers free help designing your system. You get a dedicated Tech specialist that will work to build a system that fits your needs and budget; effectively taking all the work and turning it into an easy process.

They also offer a Configurator for you to design your PC if you know what you want.

Hope this helps!

I am looking for a new monitor for my PC Gaming rig. I only play FPS games.

What is "THE BEST" monitor on the market at the moment for gaming that will deliver the maximum frame rate? (My computer can play games over 100fps, but I just need a monitor that can deliver more than 60fps for me to enjoy it to the max)

Anyone know of the best?

Answer
welll.. define "The Best"

by my standards (and your not gonna like this) the BEST display would be:
NEC PA301W 30" IPS 2560x1600 monitor. for the best experiences you'l need 3 of them.
99% perfect color reproduction
excellent contract
14 bit 3D color dictionary (some 1.3 billion colors)
it supports 3D display
industry standard for graphics, video, and game designers.
its um, $2300 each, and 3 of them would be... $6900. and since its obviously extremely valuable, shipping would be like $400 ($200 to ship + $200 in insurance)

you'll need dual-link DVI -out or you'll have trouble enjoying this top-quality monitor.
this is as close as you can get to an Apple computer's display, which is the best there is.

What is the perfect sized monitor for playing pc games?

Steven

I originally wanted something like 2500x1400 but I think 27 inches might be too big I don't know. I don't want to find out that it's too big and I don't like it because I'm going to be sitting up close to this thing all day everyday. I know I'd like it to be big enough to where the game looks nice, and I'm not at a disadvantage playing competitively but not so big that it hurts my eyes. How far away do you guys recommend sitting from a 27-30 inch monitor?

Answer
Get three portrait monitors and wrap it around youso it's curved.

Answer
These parts will all fit together perfectly, i can't see any compatibility issues that could arise with using these parts in a PC, I hope you plan on playing some seriously demanding games, because the parts you have here are pretty monstrous in terms of sheer power, if you're going to be playing something like League of Legends you're probably about $400 over budget, the only possible hindrance is the case you've gone for, being it only a mid tower case, it will either snugly fit the 780 in, or it may just be too small by a few cm, i suggest looking for a full tower case, rather than a medium tower

What is the best laptop for college and gaming?

Ali

The question doesn't need many more details but I'll try.

The only game I would really play on it would be League of Legends so a computer that can handle that on normal settings would be a dream. (I currently barely get 60 on the lowest available.)

I plan on majoring in linguistics so I don't think I'll need anything fancy for that. I could be wrong. I've heard, that with some majors you need to be capable of doing other things aside from Microsoft Word.

I'm currently a senior and will not be starting college until next fall so I have plenty of time to save but I would prefer not to spend over a grand.

I don't intend on building my own laptop so if you could refrain from suggesting that I would appreciate it. I'm aware it is cheaper in the long run but I would rather wait awhile and build a saaawwweeeeet desktop. :D

Answer
I actually recommend people not to build their own computers on their own, unless they know what they are doing.. I stopped building my own computers since 2006 because buying a computer from a known brand is a money well spent..
Unless you are a fan of apple computers, I would recommend Alienware laptops.. Alienware is a subsidiary hardware computer company of Dell Inc. They pride themselves to be among the top authority in gaming laptops which it would explain the high price tag for their computers..

They seem to collect the best of the best components in the market (Dell monitors, NVIDIA graphic cards, IBX casing from Taiwan.. etc.) and they display those components online on their site Http://Alienware.com/ .. and if you don't like their standard build, you can upgrade the components (the important ones at least) individually by a click of the mouse in their pages..
The starting price is about 1200 US dollars for a laptop, and you can add or upgrade the components with the updated price at the bottom..

For college, I advise you against laptops, especially if you stay in a hostel where people go in and out.. a lot of laptop theft occurred during my days.. and in my experience, those wire-locks that you can attach a laptop to a heavy furniture, doesn't really work, as wire cutters now gets more sophisticated and smaller..

Nah.. I would advise you to have a desktop computer because they are cheaper (Alienware prices starts at 700 US) and they are harder to sneak them out of the room, if you are a thief..

Maybe an ipad should you wish to bring something around..
The truth to be told, you only need a notepad in a class..

I just bought a new PC and here is the spec:

Processor : Core i7 3770 3.4GHz
HSF : DeepCool GammaXX S40
Motherboard : MSI H77MA-G43
Memory : Dual Channel Visipro 2 x 4 GB PC3-12800 CL11-11-11-29
SSD : Intel SSD 520 Series 120GB
Harddisk : Seagate 2TB SATA III 7200rpm
VGA Card : HIS Radeon HD 7850 IceQ X 2GB GDDR5 256 Bit
PSU : Cooler Master GX EU 550W Bronze 80+
Casing : Simbadda Sim-Q
Monitor : LG LCD L1753S
Speaker : Simbadda CST z100
Headphone : Somic CD-2688MV
Keyboard : Logitech Standard PS/2
Mouse : Gaming Mouse A4Tech XL-747H Blue Spider

OS : Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit (AHCI SATA)

How do you think about my new rig ?
Is it OK ?? Will it future proofs ? If then, how long ?

I have run it for two months since April 2013.

So far, there are some problems :
1. When booting, it takes a long time about 3-5 minutes, and on the right corner of the screen, it shows B4 code so long, then A2. What do these codes mean ?

2. If I wanna change my speaker to 5.1 channel, can you give some suggestions ?
And 5.1 or 7.1 is better ? What is the difference ? My budget is US$100.

3. My casing is so small, I want to change. Which one is better ?
I want a big 20 cm fan on top and front. Then, side fan for cooling VGA Card.
My budget is around US$50-100.

4. For 3D Monitor, can you give me some recommended types and brands ?
IPS, LED, or LCD and what size ?
(maybe 18.5" if there is a 3D monitor with that size, coz' too large, i don't like)
I want to use the monitor to watch 3D movies and games maybe.
I have tried Red Cyan glasses on current monitor, and it so annoying, the color is so dark (i mean all seems so dark, bad quality).
For Monitor, my budget is US$100-200.

I really really need your suggestions.
Hope for your opinions soon.

Thanks.. :)

its awsome...

What is an optimised build configuration for an assembled desktop PC meant for design & illustration?

Khargoshan

Hi,

While I haven't done this before, but with an average understanding of computer peripherals and some help with figuring out hardware, I wish to assemble a desktop PC on a budget of â¹ 50,000-55,000 (Approx. $ 797-877) that will be used for illustration and graphic design. I'm in close proximity of Lamington Road, Mumbai, so sourcing parts should not be a problem.

It would help if you could also suggest a pen-tablet (stylus) for mid to professional level use. I've checked out Wacom & iBall websites for their pen-tablets but cannot decide between the two. How do they compare? Should I compromise somewhere in the budget of the PC build, ditch iBall, and invest in a Wacom model?

Web browsing, Skype/Hangouts telephony, word processing and number crunching, not-so-hardcore gaming are other tasks I'll be using the PC for.

As of 2013, what config. works best for the above purposes?

Answer
This all depends.

If you spoke with a representative from Apple computers, they would insist that you needed one of their products, and most likely the most expensive product they could get you to purchase.

If you spoke to a Linux Aficionado, I'm sure the conversation would quickly devolve into a discussion about which distro of Linux they believed would be best for you, and how you would have to get the free software they believed would be best for you... which wouldn't be what you initially asked them.

In General... the Optimized build for what you describe doesn't really exist. Oh, there are some things you could look for, but even with the budget constraints that you list, it really is all about what you want to buy. Let me explain.

You want to use it for Illustration and Graphic design. You don't even know what pen-tablet you want to use yet. You've only LOOKED at them... you haven't said anything about getting your hands on one... and that is a recipe for disaster. Why? Because you come across like you would purchase the one that got the highest recommendation, and that has NOTHING to do with whether or not *you* will actually like it. If this machine is going to be used to build and work on a career, and that graphics tablet is going to be your bread-and-butter interface to the machine... you had better damn well get your hands on as many different tablets before you purchase one... or start buying different ones so you will have multiples to play with and find the right one. I'll come back to this.

Web browsing. Well, you can do that on a netbook. Don't need much machine there. Come on... you suggest this as part of the criteria, and honestly, you make most of our brains hurt. Why? ANY computer with a connection to the internet can browse the web. You can browse the web with your phone... does that make your phone a viable candidate for taking the place of the machine you want to build?

Skype/Hangouts telephony. So... you need speakers, a mic, and a web cam. Combine that with web browsing, and I think the newest iPod Touch fits your requirements. Oh wait... Word Processing, "number crunching" and not-so-hardcore gaming. Yep. You can do those things as well with an iPod Touch. And yes, you can download one of many apps in the iTunes store that will allow you to draw on the screen of the iPod Touch.

Yes... I realize you were *thinking* of something more powerful than a portable media player you carry in your pocket. Get a Samsung Galaxy phone then. Ok. But seriously now.

I doubt you have seen my point... which is that what you WANT and what you DESCRIBE are two different things.

You need a large monitor. Maybe even two monitors. That way, you can have one dedicated to whatever program you are drawing with, and one for surfing, chatting, etc. These monitors should have a refresh rate of not less than 2ms if you want to do any kind of FPS gaming at all. You say Not-So-hardcore gaming... but we both know that if you don't actually detail the specific games you intend to play, that your phrasing of Not-So-hardcore actually means nothing. I'd also say that you want at least 24" widescreen monitors.

So... what about the rest of the computer? Well... not much really. If we completely ignore your reference to gaming, then you don't need all that much in the Processor department... maybe a quad core 1.8ghz processor http://ark.intel.com/products/72055/ that will Turbo to 2.7ghz. Ok... I suggested that processor because I was thinking of your gaming needs. Unfortunately, you could eat up most of your budget on just that processor AND a motherboard for it... so maybe you should just stick to either a newer core i3 low end processor... or find yourself a nice AMD to stick with. For example, a few years back I found myself a sweet deal on a new machine with cheap parts, but a screaming AMD 1100T (3.3ghz six core, that will turbo to 3.8ghz) at the heart, for only $300 total.

You'll need lots of Ram, especially if you are dealing with RAW images of any size... so when spec'ing motherboards, look to ones that allow you to use at least 16GB. And yes... when you are looking at RAM modules themselves, you will be tempted to buy the most expensive and fastest... only *you* aren't going to need the fastest RAM possible for that motherboard. If you were to play hardcore games, then yes. If you were to be editing HD video for television commercials, then yes. Otherwise, for your needs, static images and illustration, bulk is more important than speed. For what you say you are going to do, you wouldn't see the difference between PC3-6400 and PC3-17000.

Storage. aka.... Hard Drives. The more the Merrier. Heck, you can walk into retail stores and get 3TB for $119 now... and that's not even the cheapest.

Video. Well... you imply that gaming isn't a huge deal, so you don't really need fast/best. You just need good multi-monitor support. NVidia GT640 or a Radeon 6670... although almost all of the 6670's only come with one DVI output... you'd want a card with two DVI connections, even if one is DVI-A and the other is DVI-D

However... once you start pricing out all of that, you find your budget is out the window. So what to do?

Well, you start at places similar to this... that offer deals similar to this. http://www.ascendtech.us/amd-fx-6100-6-core-computer-system_i_dtwfx61004gb1tb.aspx?agent=pricewatch If you want to be able to upgrade to 16gb, then upgrade THAT system with the next motherboard choice (the Ecs A960M-M2 for another $5.99). Not a great motherboard BUT it will allow you to use two 8GB DDR3 memory modules... and those two upgrades (motherboard and memory) bring the total for that machine to $477. You wouldn't want to upgrade the video card at that company (for the $117 they want for the older, low end nVidia G210, you could easily get a much better GT640 somewhere else... for less).

That leave about a third of your budget to get two good 2ms 24" monitors, and your graphics tablet.

You have a lot of research and shopping in your future. Good Luck.

How much does a good gaming computer cost?

I think I'm going to play Diablo III when it comes out, where is a good computer to play it on, and how much will it cost? I know Diablo III isn't out yet, but I know it will need a lot of requirements because its a huge game.

Desktop and or laptop.

Answer
Get at least a dual-core processor (quad-core recommended), with 3 GB RAM (4-6GB recommended), SSD for OS (40GB would suffice) and 500GB of HDD (1TB if you need and/or can afford), ATI 5770/5870 or nVidia GT275/285, 22" widescreen LCD monitor and a decent logitech keyboard/mouse. To run diablo 3, which you're not going to be until perhaps 3rd quarter of 2011, you'll require a robust PC, but not necessarily an expensive one. $850 should fetch you a good gaming PC, whereas top-of-the-line models will cost more.

What is a good CHEAP computer that is good for gaming?

The game i really want to play is cities xl 2011 so if anyone could tell me a good laptop computer preferably laptop to play this game. Could you also look at the specs cause i don't understand them but i want the game to run well. Thank you

Answer
You can get a cheap Toshiba at Walmart for under $400. However it is not good for gaming. You can play games but it is hard on the computer. I'd say that if you are willing to sped $250-300 on a computer than go to Walmart and buy a Cheap Toshiba but if you are doing a lot of heavy gaming it probably will not last mor than a couple of years. If you want something better you should either spend more money or get something on Ebay. I'd recomend a Mac-book. They last forever!

How come Consoles can run on huge monitors?

pc dual monitor gaming
on SUPER PC | Dual Monitor Computer System | NZXT Phantom 410 Gaming Case
pc dual monitor gaming image

Chris

On PC to run dual monitors or to run on a big screen with full resolution you need a nice video card, but consoles don't really have high performance video cards, how come they can run on massive monitors no problem?

Answer
The size of the screen has nothing to do with needing a better graphics card. It's the resolution of the screen or the number of lines or pixels in the case of computer monitors.

Consoles always output at the same resolution, usually 720p or 1080p, and games are optimized for console hardware.

PCs don't have that luxury because there are hundreds of possible hardware combinations, unlike the Xbox or PS3 which only have one. They can't optimize games for all hardware, plus there's more overhead because PCs also have to run WIndows or whatever else in the background as well. That, and PC versions tend to have improved graphics since developers often take advantage of the superior hardware.

In any case, 720p on a 20" screen will be no different from 720p on a 50" screen because the number of lines/pixels is the same, although it probably won't look as good on the latter as the pixels would be more visible on a bigger screen.

What should i upgrade on my gaming pc next?

Austin

So ive built this awesome gaming pc. here are the specs

15 3570K
AMD 7950 twin frozer
8 gb ddr3 ram
850 watt psu
motherboard isnt really important
and ive got more than enough space. i have a 2tb hard drive and a 500gb hard drive (running linux) along with a 1tb external drive for backup.

its in a zalman z11 plus case. there is a disc drive installed btw. i also have dual monitor and a levitron gaming keyboard and R.A.T 5 gaming mouse. if anyone cares

So my question to you is.
Im gonna have some extra money soon and was wondering what you think i should upgrade first. Like what you think would be most beneficial.
Also if there is any great applications (free or paid) that you think i should get.

Thanks guys.
if you have any questions just ask in the answers

Answer
never change a winning horse...
do you feel your PC needs new hardware?
if so, which are the symptoms?

but okay, if you can just throw the money out without a 2nd though, the only "mismatch" in your config is the CPU
get yourself an i7 3990x and you should have enough processing power
in fact, more then anything you are ever likely to need >¦-)

UtopianImp

I'm thinking about buying a widescreen LCD monitor. Now I've noticed that many games have a resolution setting. So what would happen if I'm playing a game which doesn't support the rectangle resolution that widescreen monitors have? Will the picture get all stretched out? I'm assuming that really old PC games that came out before widescreen monitors were around, such as StarCraft or Quake, don't support those kinds of monitors. So will old games look funny on a widescreen monitor?

Answer
Yes they would. There's an option on my LCD monitor that I can show things in original resolution. So for example my monitor supports up to 1280 x 1024, but if I have a game running at 800x600, I can either have it run full screen or original resolution which shows 800x600 in middle of screen with a lot of black around it. If you have that option on your monitor, then you can use it to play games in original resolution without stretching.

The option would be in monitor settings (NOT WINDOWS)

I like to have LCD monitor for PC Games?

$6900. and since its obviously extremely valuable, shipping would be like $400 ($200 to ship + $200 in insurance)

you'll need dual-link DVI -out or you'll have trouble enjoying this top-quality monitor.
this is as close as you can get to an Apple computer's display, which is the best there is.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4196/nec-pa301w-review-the-baddest-30-inch-display

MaximumPC's Dream Machine 2011 utilized 3 of the best monitors in the world.
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/dream_machine_2011_how_we_created_best_pc_ever
they also had three nVidia GTX 580's to back i up, I seriously doubt anything less can actually handle so many pixels. at 4800x2560 most graphics cards will be struggling to produce even 5 FPS.

What gaming PC would be good for this budget?

Ok i dont know much about gaming pcs if im honest but most of my friends use them so id like to get one. If my budget is around £500-600($800-1000) what would you recommend to buy?

Answer
If you have the time and are willing to put in the effort, you can build a fairly monstrous PC with that budget. I'll give you some ideas below:

Core 2 Quad Q9400 - $200
Asus P5N-T Premium Motherboard w/ EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX - $220
Seagate 1 TB Hard Drive - $70
Any 64-bit Operating System - $150-$200
4GB RAM - $30
19-inch monitor - $100
DVD-RW Drive - $30
Keyboard & mouse - $20
Tower Case - $40
750 Watt Power Supply - $100

Answer
Yes, that combination can play BF3 maxed on a 1920x1080 or lower resolution monitor.

The GTX 660 (non-Ti) manages just over 50fps in BF3 on ultra settings at 1080p.
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/09/13/nvidia-geforce-gtx-660-2gb-review/5

The Core i5 2400 is very good, just a little bit below the 2500/2500K. It's stil faster in games than any processor made by AMD.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2500-2400-2300_7.html#sect0

But if you're getting a new socket LGA 1155 motherboard I recommend going with a Core i5 3470 or 3570/3570K.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6396/the-vishera-review-amd-fx8350-fx8320-fx6300-and-fx4300-tested/5

However... the GeForce GTX 660 and Radeon HD 7870 currently sell for about $230. There's a much better value around that price, the new Radeon HD 7870 LE!!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131484

It's a Tahiti-based card, the same GPU core as the more powerful HD 7950. And it's only $10 more than a standard HD 7870 or GTX 660!!!

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/tahiti-le-7870-7930-benchmark,3401-3.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Club_3D/HD_7870_jokerCard_Tahiti_LE/8.html

I personally prefer Nvidia cards, but that kind of power (GeForce GTX 660 Ti and Radeon HD 7950 level performance) is too much to pass up at that price.

Guys im from India. Im going to buy a Desktop PC with custom parts. Here's my current Configuration. Please tell me if the current build is ok enough to play Battlefield 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Skyrim, and most of the new games like Battlefield 3. Here the list :-

Intel Core i5-2500K Quad-Core Processor.
AMD Radeon HD 6850 or Nvidia Gtx 550 ti ( cant choose between these 2).
NZXT M59 Gaming Cabinet or Cooler Master Elite 431.
LG 22inch LED Monitor.
Cooler Master 550w extreme Power PSU.
Asus P8H67-M-LX 16GB DDR Intel Motherboard.
Ram will be 4GB DDR3 Memory of 1333 MHz.
500 GB Seagate HDD.

Please Note That :- i'll also be using software like Maya 2011/2012, Combustion, most of the adobe softwares like Premiere CS5, After Effects CS5. then HD Video Editing.etc. Also please tell me that if choosing Nvidia, is it eVGA gtx 550ti or ASUS gtx 550ti. OR if choosing Radeon, is it ASUS HD 6850 or XFX HD 6850. Please answer fast. Thanks.

Answer
Either for gaming or the programs you want to use, you're not going to make it with either of those cards because they are too weak.

You should be looking at an ATI 6970 or NVidia GTX560ti core 448, at least.

In fact, for the use of your editing stuff, you'd be better off with a Quadro card, but they're bloody expensive ($2000 to $7000) and not fit for gaming...

The rest of your system is okay, except you'd want to go for at least 8GB of RAM for the rendering/editing stuff...

A good gaming monitor for someone on a budget?

Carson

I need a gaming monitor and I have found an excellent 'BenQ' monitor. However, it was out of my budget, around $300. My desk isn't the biggest so it would be nice if it is smaller. The price range im hoping to get one for is around $150, if they have a decent gaming one for that price. Thank you!

Answer
I use Sony Playstation 3D display. I play PS3 and my pc games on it all the time. It's also good for watching movies. It also works with Cable TV. It comes with 3D glasses and a ps3 game. Not sure if that's what you're looking for. It's a 24" display with full HD and I think that the price is around 200 or so. I got it last year on a sale for 100 and I like it. If you don't have a ps3, you could sell the game and glasses. Hope I helped
