27 inch pc gaming monitor image
Mike
I want to purchase a alienware x51 because the laptop i have now overheats all the time while playing world of warcraft. I need to know if the x51 will be able to run world of warcraft and not overheat while i have a 27 inch HD led acer monitor and z623 logitech speakers with subwoofer hooked up to the desktop. Please help.
Answer
The X51 is an odd system. It is more of a hybrid of laptop and desktop than a real gaming system. The thing is, WoW is a low graphics game. Any modern halfway decent laptop or desktop will max it out without overheating.

The Alienware is pretty, but it is still a Dell and still expensive.

An X51 is thin and small with a weak external power supply, so upgrading it is painful.
For $700 plus tax, you get GT 640, i3-2120, 4GB 1333 speed DRAM, 1TB Sata II HDD, slot load DVDRW, with the external PSU.
GT 640 is below GTX 660M of laptops and GT 640 is G3D score 1483.
Yes, you can do what you want with this $700 system.
You can also get this big one, for $760:

There is no built-in wireless that I think an X51 includes if you need it and is a $35 add-on.

i5 3550 is 75% stronger CPU
HD 7750 is 22% stronger graphics card
The HDD is faster as SATA III
The system is upgradable and updatable.
But it is much bigger.
AT $850 at Dell they are a closer match, but still weaker at Dell.

How big a screen can my pc take and still beable to play games with High specs?
Donald G
I have a gaming pc and i have an old 19" tube type screen you know what i mean? So how big a screen can it take with an Asus Nvidia 9600Gt SILENT 512 Mb graphics card?
Answer
That's like asking how fast can a car go on the highway?
It depends. The 9600 is a mid-level card (being a more expensive version of the 8600).
As for a CRT, yes you should be able to use it just fine...now, if you're saying you want to upgrade FROM the 19" CRT...you should have no problems.
It's not the detail settings that you'll have issues with, it's the RESOLUTION you'll have problems with. The more screen real estate you want, the more the card is driven. I've seen bench tests for 27" monitors next to 24" monitors that had higher figures because the smaller screen was set to a higher screen resolution setting.
The best thing to do is keep the screen size reasonable. After all...a 20" monitor 18 inches from your face gives a better picture, and has a better RESOLUTION than a 52" monitor across the room.
In any case, if you are going to upgrade...make sure you also patch your drivers. I believe nVidia has put out a couple (2? 3??) driver patches since the 9600 came out well over a year ago.
Good Luck!
