I want to fix up the old PC that my mother and father threw away years ago and just left in the garage under a plastic bag. It is a Dell Dimension 2400, it has 2 disc drives, one diskette, crappy keyboard and monitor. I have a Macbook, but it's just for everyday little things like recording my music and making short movies and stuff. I need a Desktop for gaming and serious work. Please help?

Answer
if its works you can use for desktop. but gaming is out of the question.

I would not bother , but if you must first thing. get a new hard drive.
new fans. and max out the memory. IF you can, put in a video card this will be apg if it has a slot. than you can install xp and run updates and you should be ok

What type of desktop/laptop would suit me best?

Im 17 and I want an iMac really bad and have the money saved up for it but my friends tell me to get a laptop cause it's better and portable? I need a computer cause I haven't owned one since 2005, I want to play games on it ( buy the games and load them to the system), have lots of nice features to mess around with, and schoolwork. Are the Mac laptops good? I want to be able to make Lego stopmotion videos?
Thanks so much in advance!

I went through a similar dilemna last week and am now a happy owner of a 15" Macbook Pro laptop.

My parents convinced me to buy an iMac due to its enhanced functions and then buy an iPad to take to university. This would mean that I would have a high performance desktop and a very mobile tablet computer. My preferred option was to just buy a Macbook Pro and hook it up to my 24" monitor at home, and then unplug and take it to uni in my messenger bag.

After purchasing the Macbook Pro, I have to say that I am realy happy with it as it has so many strengths that some notebook PCs absolutely lack. I used to own a Lenovo X220t before my Macbook Pro, and the MBP is so better at so many things.

Mac laptops in general offer great speeds, great design, great durability, GREAT battery life (>5hours) and great mobility (my 15' MBP is surprisingly easy to carry around). So I would recommend that you take a look at the 15"MBPs, as they boast all the above and have great high-performance graphics chips which can handle the most recent games such as Skyrim on high settings.
