Ok so i'e recently come into some money and have decided to treat myself to a new super-duper computer. I'm planning on having it custom made with a view to upgrading parts at a later date (a year or so down the line at least) i'm quite ambitious with what i want from it and this being my first custom-made comp i feel i need some serious help.
Ideally i want to be able to run a minimum of 2 monitors, but possibly 4. I also want to be able to play games such as WoW and crysis on fairly high settings and watch films and TV on Media Center at the same time.
I was thinking of using either 2 NVIDIA GTX 280 or 2 ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 in SLI or Crossfire, although I've heard there are problems with multile monitors so my other option would be a single NVIDIA GTX 295 or a single ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2.
Processor-wise, i was thinking of either Intel Core i7 920 (2.66GHz) 8 MB or Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (4 x 2.83 GHZ) with 6gb of DDR3 RAM.
And finally for the motherboard i was thinking of a Asus P6T WS Revolution (Intel X58)
So will these parts work to give me my dream machie or do i need to change anything drastically? Any and all help greatly appreciated.
Answer
Ive been running dual monitors for years both on single graphic card set up and on dual graphic card set up.
1 thing to note is when on single you split the processing power (gfx)between the two monitors. Also note some drivers don't properly accelerate the secondary monitor too well. This is mostly with ATI and older drivers not sure of the new range.
In my experience Id go for two NVIDIA cards with SLI as an option... IE make sure its all compatible but not install it. Then have two monitors for a gaming rig and four for entertainment rig set up. Use utilities like UltraMon to disable the monitors on the fly when you want ultimate gaming without loss of speed ;)
If thatâs not enough go SLI but not all software supports it and SLI / Crossfire doesnât give that much a boost for the bucks. So also if money is tight Id get a single better graphics card rather than 2 lesser ones.
Have fun with your new toy and dont forget fast ram and a fast hard drive too!

Answer
It is an alright gaming pc. You would be able to play most games on medium settings.
If you connect the laptop to a tv it shouldn't change resolution, and if it does it will change back automatically when you disconnect the laptop from the tv.
Hope i helped
