Gaming Computer?

Crazy-Guit

I need a very good gaming computer that wont lagg up when i play something like unreal tournament 3 or world of warcraft? Is there any cheap ones out there?

Answer
Very good gaming computers are more expensive, not cheaper than standard school/work models.... And desktops are cheaper than laptops.

Buying used from someone who's upgrading, you might get a deal.

Check out Cyber Power PC- they have nice gaming machines for less than major brands like Dell, Sony, etc...

1. Are gaming computers worth it over an average computer?

2. Would I be able to turn an owned computer into a gaming PC?

3. Can I find older GCs, and are they cheaper?

How does my current computer compare to a Gaming Computer?

Acer Aspire MT180 Desktop: Purchased 2 years ago.

AMD Athlon64 processor 3800+(what's that number even mean?)
1GB DDR2 memory (control panel only says I have 770MB)
160GB SATA Hard Disk
DVD-Dual drive

Runs on Windows Vista Home Basic: Computer Performance rated as 3.0 base.

Anything more about my PC is explained by this person who is/was selling theirs. http://www.bagsofcrap.com/woot.html.php?id=2473
It's exactly the same as mine.
Thanks Both, especially Keith.

1. Are gaming computers worth it over an average computer?
A gaming computer is worth it, if you're a gaming. The only thing that makes a gaming PC a gaming PC is the components. Most gaming PC's use either top of the line hardware or fairly recent hardware.

2. Would I be able to turn an owned computer into a gaming PC?
That depends on the computer. If it's a branded PC, like a Dell or HP, chances are you won't be able to since they use proprietary parts (usually).

3. Can I find older GCs, and are they cheaper?
Usually gaming PC's are not discarded, they are simply rebuilt with new parts added. THough if someone is completely getting rid of their gaming PC, you can usually find them on ebay or craiglists. Most gaming forums or hardcore pc forums have forsale/trade sections where they are also sold. Check out hardocp.com, overclocking.net.

4. I tend to play slightly older games (2006+previous), would getting a new GC be worth it, over an older one? Absolutely. This gives the ability to still play the other games, but also the newer ones that are or will be released.

5. Is more RAM and a better graphics Card all that's necessary for a decent gaming computer?
No. While important, the CPU and Motherboard is equally important. IF you have a weak process, say like a Pentium 4 and a GTX295 video card, that Pentium will bottleneck the video card, crippling it's performance. There's a equal balance that must be maintained.

6. What is recommended RAM for a Gaming Computer?
Minimum currently is 3GB, nothing less. However no more than 6GB for a gaming PC, no moree has been proven to be needed for this current generation of games.

7. What are Good graphics cards for a GC for slightly older games?
Any current video card line or last generation. This inclues all the ATI 48xx,47xx,46xx,45xx and Nvidia GTX295/285/280/275/260.

If I was to compare your PC to a gaming PC (bare minimum bench), your computer would be subpar. The process is a single core, not a single core. You have only 1GB of ram. if your control panel says you only have 770MB, that means that your video card is intergrated and is using the install memory for it's buffer. Not acceptable for a gaming PC at all.

Sorry, but the title says it all. It is not a very good PC, not even for a non-gaming PC. Like I mentioned, check out sites like Hardocp.com, Anandtech.com or firingsquad.com for ideas on what you should be looking for in a gaming PC.

Good Luck
