I want to build a solid gaming computer for around $600 and I really need some help. I would prefer to use the website (newegg.com) for all the components but if you suggest a different website I will check it out.

Can you list the components I need to buy? Also, I have Windows 7 and I need the computer I build to work with it. Thanks!

Answer
you need a little more than $600 for the computer but this is without monitor, speakers, keyboard & mouse.

cpu: Athlon II X4 640 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871
mobo: ASRock 880GMH/USB3 AM3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157197
ram: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 CL8 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231278
gpu: EVGA GeForce GTS 450 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130573
hdd: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200rpm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185
cd/dvd: Sony Optiarc with Lightscribe support http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118040
psu: Antec BP550 Plus http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016
case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066
total: $636

in order to reduce some costs you could look for a cheaper case

How much would it cost to build a decent gaming computer?

With new consoles coming out this year, I've decided to build a gaming computer so I can play more games and have a better experience with the one's I have. I have heard from friends that I can build a good one for around $600, but I want the internet's answers. I want to be able to play games that are out now, like Ghost Recon and Skyrim with mods and that come out in the future with little to no lag. I don't care about playing on the highest graphics settings and am willing to go down to low settings as long as it doesn't ruin the experience for me. Thank you.
Thanks for the help. Good to know that my range is about $600-$800.

Answer
I built mine on 574 pounds

8 core amd processor
8gb ram
1gb nvida GeForce ( upgrading soon)
1.5tb hdd
120gb ssd
Asus motherboard
Not a problem although the graphic card on mines quite poor just buy all your components off amazon and you can't go wrong
